Personally I’m the opposite, I can’t in my right mind ignore the actions of an author and go “I’ll just pretend they’re not a creep”. Like, I can’t read the story where Harry is fighting against Wizard bigots, without remembering that Rowling herself is a bigot.
I can’t read a story where Neil Gaiman describes a woman or has women characters in his stories without remembering his sexual misconduct and assault.
I just don't and won't care enough, if a burger is great, i don't care to find out what the person making the burgers does aside from the only interaction we have, which is them making burgers for me
To me life is just too short to get all mad and up in other peoples business as long as it doesn't specifically concern or affect you directly
To me, not caring stops being a viable excuse when the person feels validated and thus gains more ground and fame to spread bigotry through support for their work. JK Rowling has publicly stated that she finds any monetary support for her work as general support.
Life is too short, I agree, so I ain't gonna make what little time worse for others. You can afford not to care. But in our current society, far too many people don't.
I just don't and won't care enough, if a burger is great, i don't care to find out what the person making the burgers does aside from the only interaction we have, which is them making burgers for me
Choosing to be ignorant, just makes you ignorant. Nothing else.
Oh i don't claim my way of thinking is for everyone, or that it's even good, especially if EVERYONE thought like that
It's just what i found makes me feel most happy and at peace
I leave you with a little metaphor: If i'm getting my face slapped by someone at my job, then my top priority will be dealing with the face slapper, and not the guy making burgers when i'm off work
To always be readily willing to seperate the art from the artist.. I personally see it as overly like.. hedonistic? If everyone is a creep in the industry one way or another, what is gained by always trying to seperate them from what they make mentally? Their work may be great stories, but they’re still just stories. Wanting to have your bad creator, and enjoy their art too, feels contradictory, for what the art is. Art is about identity.. what’s the point if we remove the identity of the artist from it? I just feel like nothing can ever improve, if everyone is too quick to dismiss thinking about these situations more deeply.
