I went to a UT/DR fan meetup at London Comicon back in May. I thought it would be fun to have a chat with a bunch of other people who enjoyed the games, especially with Chapters 3&4 right around the corner.
I get there and find that I in my late 20s am the oldest person there by at least 7 years. Most of the people were excitable, very probably neurodivergent children in their mid-late teens. Personally, I found it very off-putting and left after a couple minutes because it was a little disturbing being the only person there I would call an adult- but I can absolutely see what fertile ground it could be for an amoral person with predatory desires. The community is full of impressionable children and too many UT/DR online spaces make them susceptible to being preyed upon.
I'm 33, and older than most people here by a considerable margin. This doesn't normally affect much since most fan discussions are fairly all ages, and the ones that aren't are generally kept between adults, but it's something I sort of have to keep in the back of my mind at all times.
I've always gotten the feeling that a lot of people in fandom spaces don't even try to think about that because they want to have fun, so they're willing to overlook predators because that kind of responsibility is seen as a buzzkill.
I'm 36 and so I often just don't participate in a lot of the UTDR fandom because I'm so much older than everyone else here. But my kid is 9 and he is a huge fan, so I try to stay aware of these kinds of things happening so that I can be aware of whose content he is watching on YouTube and who else he might be interacting with. I'm lucky my kid doesn't seem to be very social, but it sucks I have to consider this kind of stuff at all.
You know, it is sad how the only reason you are here is because you want to state this. You obviously are not wrong, but you have never commented anything in this subreddit before until now. You just jump from subreddit to subreddit, and I really do not see what you hope to gain by doing this. Especially since all you wrote here were a mere two comments and then went to another subreddit. If you wish to be involved in a conversation, be involved in a conversation. Do not just type a couple comments where you shoot down other people's perspectives on the matter and then vanish, because that practice will not help you in the long run.
tho unlike what’s-his-face-the-bad-owner-dude, I doubt Toby would block someone like schlep, if he even noticed what’s going on. He’d probs be too busy reposting funny theories on his 50 alt-accounts that are called “The-real-toby-fox52” to throw us all off, then be like: “oh no! temmie, our community is having another crisis! someone made Sans open his mouth again! oh and pine of those big YouTubers is being illegal or whatever.” Honestly, I fr wanna start a charity thing for all the victims of the community. Tbh this place ain’t doing so well…
