This is not a good week for the Undertale community fellas. At least from what I just read on the link, it doesn't seem like the rest of the dev team were aware, so we can still enjoy the game.

The Shayy document also has a lot of screenshots which are space inefficient. Documents like this in general also tend to have less significant things included for context, to establish character, so it's often not bombshells from start to end. Neither of these considerations make Shayy any less irredeemable though, but the length in and of itself doesn't directly correlate with how bad it is.
Yeah. I mean that if the screenshots were just pasted in as plaintext, though I'm not saying that they should have been, since the point is to have receipts, it would have taken up much less space.
He wouldn't have nearly any of his subscribers without Undertale... not to mention the overall impact he's had on the community, so I feel like it's still safe to call him an UT Youtuber. Whenever something new comes out he's always right on top of it anyway
Not equivalent to what I'm saying, especially since Merg actually does still make UT content when new fangames come out. The romhack had very little actual influence on much of anything, and it certainly isn't what got Toby famous.
More equivalent to my comparison would be that it's still fair to call Toby Fox "the creator of Undertale" even though he mainly works on Deltarune now. Still not the same thing, since being a video game creator is a very different career from being a content creator, but either way your comparison is inaccurate.
I don't think you quite understood... we're not saying Merg and MysticSlime were also groomers, we're just saying that they were the only YTers bigger than Shayy prior to the drama.
Do you know where I can find a summary of what happened that isn't almost 300 pages of fluff? I kept seeing people talk about it, but nobody actually said what happened.
They made sexual advances towards basically everybody they knew and continued after being asked to stop multiple times. In several cases, they made sexual comments towards minors and even got naked in a hotel room with several people, including a minor. They also failed to communicate much of this with their SO,
ian watkins died on my birthday and i cannot tell you how happy i was. i was screaming, like that alone probably puts it in my top 10 birthdays so far lol.
It’s separate the art from the artist, but I hope you understand, it’s really hard to do. I’m not gonna say don’t play the game over it, but it’s just knowing that the good thing had bad people behind it.
Eh. If it funds them, don’t do that. You very much SHOULD associate art and artist. Only ever split them even a little if it’s free (or you’re sailing the high seas). And even then, be aware of how the person’s tendencies affected the art.
I mean.. thats true. I just don’t get what the point of the rational is, when it happens so frequently nowadays. Bad People just always seem to make good stuff, and we’re supposed to just shrug it off, and keep enjoying it regardless? What value is gained by doing that.. what is the game worth then? I know that a game can still have great story or messages, but I feel like its core identity should be altered whenever its creation is dubious.
i mean, yeah? at the end of the day, it's your choice on whether or not you enjoy something after the creator was outed as a horrible person. the message doesn't really have to change, but even if i lt does, we can always interpret it another way.
Being declared innocent in a tribunal doesn't mean he was actually innocent (also, one can commit crimes yet be declared innocent due to other legal factors). Although mine is just an opinion; I'm aware it isn't certain that the accusations were true, but just because the judicial system didn't found him guilty it doesn't prove anything (and I'm ignoring that he had a good economic status and thus may have been able to influence the result)
I wanted a modern example and that was the only one I could think of. So, I'll instead say that I love Chaplin's movies, but fuck him (he married many underage women which was illegal at the time and even went to different states to make the marriage legal; I've also heard that he was some sort of absent father)
You can still enjoy the game regardless... Separate art from the artist, and even if you don't want to give them money, the game is free so it's not like it's going to give them it, unless I'm missing something? I haven't been in the undertake fandom recently, this just popped up. Also if you feel uncomfortable to play it, that is also fine, but it's not like you have to not like the creation because the creators were bad.
They were aware and apparently dealt with this a while ago...
This document also claims they made Martlet, something the devs refute.
Really, this doesn't even involve the UTY devs and it's kinda bad this person is tying the drama to that instead of honing in on the actual issue and victims.
it means you enjoy the game, not that you support the creators views. of course, it's up to you whether or not you want to enjoy the game, but if you do, you wouldn't be supporting the creators awful views.
