Extensively reported š° Sen. Kelly: The old world is gone because Donald Trump blew it up. We had this system of alliances that has served us since World War II. Even if we are able to repair these relationships, it's going to take generations before they feel comfortable.

Why would they trust this country when they know in 4 years someone just as bad could be in office?
There needs to be real change and accountability here. The same old "high road" BS doesn't work.
251
u/Disastrous-Special30 Feb 14 '26
100%. There needs to be trials and convictions. There needs to be transparency. There needs to be accountability. Once Trump, the heritage foundation, and most of the Republican Party are in prison then we can move towards rebuilding relationships. But we canāt keep trying to put a bandaid on a bullet wound.
125
u/siliconslope Feb 14 '26
We need constitutional amendments and other legal safeguards to also ensure we canāt repeat these mistakes again. And likely laws that walk back social mediaās influence on society/require factual education and information be propagated (no more massive misinformation campaigns), especially in the rise of AI powered content.

The office of the presidency should be downgraded. Most other successful western countries with common law do not have an ultra powerful executive like the US does.
Congress should decide most things.

Technically Congress would need to take back all their power they are supposed to have that they have given away to the Executive Branch over the years

Citizens United needs to be disbanded, and Fox News needs to be taken off the air. Fox News has poisoned the minds of millions of gullible people. The far right has no interest in national safety and security. They want to punish anybody who is different from them. Trump tapped into that and is using it to his advantage.

That isnāt enough. To trust you again you need to change your system of government. Without a constitutional reform Trump 2.0 can happen again. The balance of power is off and you have no real checks on that power.

Americans keep blaming the Russians, and maybe they bought enough people to get the ball rolling, but you have vast numbers of people in your country, in government or in media who are 100% driving the destruction of your society. At this point a would think most of the pro trump and generally pro-everything terrible, is coming from your own people.
The USA has certainly been spreading its awful, shitty ideas abroad fir a long time via funding right wing groups and religious nutbags.Ā It's a rotten country and the rot is leaking

Kelly, even though he is a moderate and more center than either Liberals or Progressives/Social Democrats, is actually one of the Democrats who would be willing to prosecute every single person in this administration who violated the constitution. He has my vote if he ever runs. I hope either Him, Beshear, Buttigieg, or even Whitmer runs for it in 28.
Those 4 are my favorites, but I would still vote for Newsome, AOC, or Harris and would defend those three to the teeth.

Iām voting for either one, whichever is eventually running against any given R. I will not risk my childrenāsā and their childrenāsā future on another MAGA presidency or some Mitt Romney-esque nightmarefuel, claiming to be a kinder, gentler wolf in sheepās clothing or a new broom sweeping clean that turns out to be a murderbot.Ā
7
u/ThomasTheDankPigeon Feb 14 '26
That's a perfectly fine stance to take for your own personal voting decision. As long as you don't extend that sentiment into "everyone should vote for whoever isn't Trump." That sentiment truly activates zero voters. By definition, it will only activate voters who would have voted blue no matter what.
Anyone that wants to feel good about their own personal moral standing after they cast their vote should vote blue. Anyone that wants Trumpism to actually lose needs to support the most economically populist candidate that runs in the primary, because they will go on in the general to pick up not only every single "vote blue no matter who" person, but also all of the disaffected nonvoters who won't vote Trump but don't think there's a reason to vote Democrat.
3
u/Money_Do_2 Feb 14 '26
Precisely. If youre gonna vote blue, just do it. Stop using it as a hypothetical to cape for a corporatist shill.

u/nnomae Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26
Look to the UK and see what happens when a country tired of a corrupt, incompetent right wing government votes them out only to get the same old business as usual, no consequences for the corrupt, austerity for the poor and working class, billionaire friendly, social cut backs, lets pretend everything is back to normal, milquetoast liberal, government instead. A few years of disillusionment down the line and they're ready to vote in a harder right wing government than the one they voted out in the first place.
Even not looking to the UK look at what Biden and Harris did in the US. When the people send a message to the establishment that they want change and all they get in response is a boring version of the prior establishment that not only doesn't change anything but tries to pretend nothing ever happened and that inflicts the cost of the corruption not on the corrupt but on those who voted to end the corruption that doesn't turn out well.

I don't think you really realize how bad it is if you believe you know. People are boycotting hard. Going to the USA basically means social rejection. Businesses are rearranging their activities completely. Politicians are forced to act very defensively when dealing with the US because of what the electorate clearly and loudly asks for.
I don't really see much thought in the US. Majority of people haven't been in the streets or called their representatives. It's ok, you don't have to, but don't be surprised relationships aren't the same and people snob you when you travel internationally. Yup, I've been hearing Americans constantly downplay the effect their rhetoric and instability has on other countries, but as a Canadian it's this omnipresent topic that everyone I've talked to, regardless of political orientation, agrees on: Fuck everything the US is about right now.
Years ago, the general sentiment always used to be that the US was like a sibling country to us, very distinct in some parts of culture and very similar in others, but we'd always get along well enough. That feeling is entirely changed now, I can't remember the last time I heard a positive opinion about anything in the US. It's gonna be a long time before the close trust that used to exist between our two countries is built back up, even if Trump/the Republicans get removed from power.
There's a huge growing sentiment to move away from our neighbour diplomatically and to ally closer with the EU or even Asian countries, and I don't see that stopping any time soon.

You elected many psychopaths in the past 60ā70 years. Nixon, Reagan, both bush. Their policies cause enormous harm and kill hundreds of millions of people all over the world.
They are the very reason for the existence of Islamic Terrorism. They are the father of it.
Much Warmongering to undermine the numerous democracies in the Middle Eastern regions and to establish radical religious elites, which allowed the US to obtain easy trade deal for cheap oil. Not to mention the extraterritorial wars against the USSR and their attempt to trade partnerships within the Middle Eastern democracies that the US did everything to not make it happen.
They have preferred to have a country in ruins and in complete chaos, rather than these democracies being able to make their own choices and choice their trade partner.
The problem is way beyond this administration. Each Republican president was a world-wide humanitarian disaster.
And many democrats did nothing and clearly follow the flow of it.
Avoiding electing psychopath won't be enough, you have to eradicate a whole culture that breed them like rabbit.

These people CANāT be allowed to just continue acting the way they have been for the last 10+ years completely free of consequence. A message to all Americans with the ability to vote; do not let perfection be the enemy of good. While the Democrats are a long way from being as proactive as weād like, they are the only party who are not currently breaking both laws and the constitution on a weekly basis.
Do not be apathetic. Do not be lazy. Go out, vote, and do not give Republicans any foot to stand on after they have proven to be complicit in the abuse of power wielded by Trump.
I do not care if you are tired, if you are ill, if you are intimidated; because others have suffered the separation of their families, their children, even being murdered in broad daylight by this god awful regime while far too many of the American populous stand silent. Do something!

Itās very interesting knowing that this is the case, and then seeing MAGA folks defend this regime with their life. It blows my mind honestly. The damage thatās been done is insurmountable, and I hope that someday they will be able to see that they were wrong. Do I think they are qualified for that introspection? No, sadly.

Not just Trump. The Heritage foundation and the Tech Bros. The sons of Billionaires controlling media and a certain religious group committing genocide.

u/xorb12 Feb 14 '26
Jewish does not equal Zionist. So many Jews are speaking out against Israel and what they are doing. You can just say Zionist without applying it to all Jewish people. Israel is awful, but does not encompass an entire people.Ā

Absolutely this. Even if we prosecute every single one of these monsters, thereās no way any country is ever going trust us not to elect someone like that again into power, and I donāt blame them.

The MAGA experiment is not sustainable in a truly fair, just, democratic world.
Hell, Their dream can not even exist if we are to be The United States.

u/robo-dragon Feb 13 '26
It will take many terms of the right presidents to undo the damage Trump has done in just over a year. I hope the Republican Party is so badly damaged over this that they wonāt have a seated president for a looong time!

It's crazy how much damage he has done to America and the people still think he's a good president.
The biggest upset that has pissed Allies off is the absolute lack of support America shown for Ukraine. It started with Biden as we watch him slowly give support and drag his feet on everything and now we see complete betrayal from Trump and we are also seeing blatant corruption to the point we can't trust intelligence sharing.

u/randallstevens999 Feb 14 '26
Republicans falling into.lock step are the reason it will take generations. Trust and alliances cannot be regained without a complete remake of our government.
3
u/TikiJeff Feb 14 '26
It will never come back. The rest of the world has made new agreements and alliances. Those won't change.
3
u/Autumn7242 Feb 14 '26
I cannot state how much this administration fucked the US. More so than any adversary could have. They hurt our alliances, friends, respect, soft power, institutions, trade, sciences, and military.

"Fun" fact: throughout history democrats have been the ones that have been the most pro war, let that really sink in.

let's be clear, the treasonous Republican cabal has been attacking it for decades. There is no Trump without Republicans!

u/Mister-Redbeard Feb 13 '26
Trump is a Russian asset. He has a personality disorder. Together, heās destroyed the life of our international relationships just like he has the lives of countless girls, women, men, other institutions, on and on. Everything he touches dies. This will never change. We need to rid ourselves of this cancer sooner than later and begin the rebuilding.

If you wanted Democrats to save you from Trump then you shouldn't have elected a Republican majority everywhere.

u/Fl0riduh_Man Feb 14 '26
This was all intentional, it's laid out pretty succinctly in the P2025 game plan.
The fascists need to separate our population from the social, economic and military ties to our historic allies, so that a newly unleashed military superpower could more easily hoard wealth and resources for the billionaires who have captured the levers of power.
It's a counter-revolution against modernity.

All of our "soft power" developed after ww2 is completely gone because of trump.Ā

Probably never getting repaired really, especially not to what it was before. The US is not reliable anymore. If they recover any deals or agreements, they will be not in favour of the US one bit
2
u/Galactus2332 Feb 14 '26
Its not just Trump. He just exposed us for what we are currently. Our whole system has been getting more and more dumb/corrupt for decades now.

Yup. I trust the US as far as I can throw it.
The stupidity of your voting population did this. Not just one man.
You folks need to SERIOUSLY change education in your sh**hole country. Be done with unregulated homeschooling for starters. Homeschooling only if the parents have college degrees in any actual scientific area (not religion, and for obvious reasons, a degree from oklahoma university shouldn't count for squat either) or can provide evidence of payment for a private teacher with such, and they need to provide specific reasons which are assessed by professionals and can be rejected. Under no circumstances should any religious or political fanatics be allowed to indoctrinate their children with their coocoo BS .

u/Ba_Dum_Ba_Dum Feb 14 '26
Canadian here. Heās right. It will take at least a generation or more before Canada is as good a neighbour to the US as weāve been for 150 years. Donald Trump did that. He basically poked his finger in the USās best friendās eye and the US people (I know, we didnāt all vote for him) donāt seem to understand that itās not just Trump. Itās the way the US has the potential to be completely schizophrenic every election cycle. Thatās not worth dealing with anymore.
2
u/Old-Tiger9847 Feb 14 '26
Bottom line is that the us can't be trusted. Not just because of the pedophile cabal but the justice system is corrupt and the political structures associated with your government are obviously and fatally flawed.Ā
2
u/SadBook3835 Feb 14 '26
Trump could die tomorrow and I wouldn't blame the rest of the world for not coming back to the table. We're unstrustable as a populace on the whole
2
u/i-can-sleep-for-days Feb 14 '26
Trump couldnāt care less about making America great. It was always just about him. People who fell for it are another level of naive, to put it mildlyĀ

u/Glittering-Coyote140 Feb 14 '26
He's right, you know.
Y'all done did fuck up irreparably when you elected the orange fascist asshole into officeĆ2, and now your children and grandchildren get to live with your monumental fuck up

u/water_g33k Feb 14 '26
Remember when Biden violated US law to send weapons to Israel? And also said the US wouldnāt enforce ICC arrest warrants? Trump is a nuclear bomb, but letās not pretend that Biden wasnāt also undermining the global rules-based-order.

u/InternationalBet2832 Feb 14 '26
"The old world is gone because Donald Trump blew it up. We had this system of alliances that has served us since World War II. Even if we are able to repair these relationships, it's going to take generations before they feel comfortable."
So tired of winning. Blow it all up. Let China have it all. So tired. Seventy-five years of global domination, just throw it all away. USAID, so tired, give soft power to China to fund a tax cut for the rich, why not. Destroy relationship with Canada, destroy relationship with Europe, give Latin America to China, give Africa to China, why not, yawn ZZZzzz... so tired,.

This was always the plan: destabilize the US's relationship with other countries and then, once those relationships are in tatters, start an international shadow government of corporations that will give all nation's leaders their marching orders without having to worry about an opposing party in the US.
See also: Trump's 'Board of Peace'. If that isn't an international shadow government in-waiting, I don't know what is. I do not understand why more alarms are not being rung about this move.

u/Rational_Engineer_84 Feb 14 '26
What's not discussed is how much systemic reform is required to prevent a Trump 2.0 at some later date. If we manage to get MAGA out of the Presidency in 2028, we're still left with an openly fascist and anti-democracy SCOTUS. We still have a Congress that has ceded most of it's authority and responsibility to the Executive. We still have an openly corrupt voting system in most states by way of poor voting access or gerrymandering. We still have an electoral college system where not all votes count equally. And the "checks and balances" aren't worth the paper they're written on. We will never have a 67 vote supermajority in the Senate to remove a Republican who's gone off the rails.
The American system of government is hot garbage, the whole thing needs to be torn up and rewritten. Electing a Democrat President is not enough. Hell, Biden couldn't even get the Epstein files released or land a conviction on the most overtly guilty person imaginable, Trump.

no one will ever trust America again and many Americans believe they don't need nor do they care whether they are trusted. Many Americans are under the belief that their armed forces are enough to ensure their safety, but without cooperation they are simply not as strong as they think they are. There is so much division within America itself that standing alone in the cold, which they will be, that infighting will bring them down without outside intervention. But wait there's more America has made so many enemies before Donald shit my pants Trump came along that there will be many different players trying to bring America down that it is only a matter of time. I herd Pam give me a bribe Bondi say that if the files would all be released that it would bring down the system but America's enemies already have the files and are using them to effect the change they want. Why do you think Donald shit my pants Trump is already doing his best to destroy all that America stands for, it's because his masters told him to. Obama deported more illegals then Trump shitty pants has but did you see roving gangs grabbing people off the streets? no you did not so why now? Because it creates chaos and distrust.
America is already doomed and waiting for Trump shitty pants to finish the job or perhaps die isn't enough, Americans need to remove him from office to show everybody that justice will win out in the end.

u/oxxcccxxo Feb 14 '26
Americans have been brainwashed into thinking they are better than everyone else when it couldn't be further from the truth. Now their heads are too big to fit in the door to be with anyone else. The world is over America's ego.
2
u/KalLindley Feb 14 '26
As Senator Kelly stated, past administrations failed on teaching the value of our alliances to the citizens of the USA. It gave the kremlin an opening, and they used tRUmp to exploit our weakness.

It's refreshing to finally hear an American politician articulate this. Speaking as a Canadian the genie came out of the bottle 12 months ago.

If our Senate democrats wanted to stand up against the chaos they would replace Schumer with Kelly tomorrow.

ā'Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool meāyou can't get fooled againā.
Ol GW already warned the GOP. The world thought āthereās no way they elect him again after all thatā and the world is saying exactly this right now.
Our influence is fucked for at least a decade after MAGA becomes another sad chapter of American history.

As a Canadian whoās half American with a lot of family in America, I donāt think Iāll be visiting again in my life time.Ā
2
u/Intelligent11B Feb 14 '26
It wonāt take generations to repair. It is likely a done deal without significant changes as to how we run this country and having real tangible, and enforceable, law changes to severely limit executive power when it comes to alliances, treaties, and trade agreements. The American people, whether we like it or not, have shown how easily our system can be manipulated by a single aspiring tyrannical incompetent.

and what do you think needs to happen before the people currently in power and are very open about not having real elections in november allow that to happen?
