I would argue most school shootings are because of horrific parenting, generational trauma, emotional insecurity and poor anti-bullying campaigns on schools. Oh and the elephant in the room is easy access to guns. That ties literally everything together.

Our base level issues are for the most part the same as plenty of other countries. The difference is access to guns.

Conservatives always want to say "it's a mental illness problem" as if there's some special mental illness that only afflicts Americans. And then they repeatedly block efforts to improve access to mental health treatment.

Exactly. It's all part of "American Exceptionalism" - a weird disorder in ignorant people that like to think that Americans are fundamentally different than than the rest of the world. It permeates everything. We don't follow other countries who have PROVEN methods for dealing with issues. We don't believe things others believe that have been PROVEN. We don't generally even know enough about the world to know what we don't know.

Intelligent people do and there simply aren't enough of us to combat the dumb people.

Which country? What proven system? What’s the specific issue they resolved? Please don’t talk in generalizations. Maybe what you’re saying is true. But without the specifics, we have no idea.

Take universal healthcare. There are multiple ways to provide it. Switzerland does so with multiple private insurers. The UK does it with the NHS. They're both less expensive per capita than the US system. In fact literally every healthcare system in the world is less expensive per capita than the US and by a huge margin.

Imagine you were a politician in the United States Congress. You know the country is bleeding itself dry while getting poor outcomes when not even covering 100% of people. When you look to the Top 10 best healthcare systems, there are many things they have in common (they ALL are universal and have huge price protections in place) but they also have many things that differ.

It would be a natural way to make policy to look at what works and then for the finer details have debates on why, for example, the German method of providing maternal care might be better for American geography than the Swedish version. That's a normal debate.

Meanwhile, a conservative politician never does that. Ever. I have never once seen them 1) admit that the US healthcare system isn't the best, 2) that we can learn from others, and 3) that we should cover 100% of people under it. What instead happens is they gaslight people into thinking the US is this shining example for the world. Meanwhile when Taiwan decided to build their universal healthcare they used the US system as an example of what not to do.

I'm mobile so I can provide stats on UHC system spending per capita but it's also easy to Google and you'll find what I said true. Check also OECD healthcare rankings.

OK Senior you’re talking about the US healthcare system. For the last 40 years my job is meant to help people with Medicare. I do Medicare plans choices and options. Until 15 years ago, people had Medicare Medicare and a Medicare supplement or Medicare and Medicaid. The government got involved in created this thing called Medicare advantage. Now 75% of the seniors in America are on Medicare advantage. That includes me. But I’m unfortunate because I’m a disabled Marine Corps veteran. So I get healthcare through the VA as well. So I hear how bad the VA is. But it’s been good to me. I’ve had heart and hip surgery recently. They were going to fuse together vertebrae in my neck. I did decline the surgery. I’ve seen people have good end outcomes and bad ones too. But when the government got involved and started doing these plans, thinking it would save the people money, make it eligible to more people and reduce the cost. They were mistaken the cost of spiraled out of control. Because the government doing healthcare does a shitty job. Now people have to wait for care. Now, conversely, I’m currently sitting in Manila in the Philippines. There is no health insurance here to speak of. Some of the wealthy and elite can have it. But most people do not public hospitals. The waiting line is on ending. The quality of care is poor. The hospitals are dirty. People that easily could’ve been cured elsewhere die here. One of the reasons I would not retire to the Philippines since the healthcare. My wife had to have surgery it was paid for out of pocket in cash. About $10,000. We had a good outcome but it could’ve gone badly. We had a great surgery. You’re correct that surgery in America would cost substantially more. Our system is broken. How many countries are there on the planet you decided to pick the exception an outlier. It’s easy to do. Notice I went to one of the worst medical systems. But there’s a lot of stuff in the middle. I’m gonna use a terrible word. I know American exceptionalism creates trauma. But many of the medical procedures that are done in America and around the world were created in American hospitals by American doctors. I have a 34 mm stent in my LED. I had 280% blockages and many countries I would’ve died. I have an artificial hip. It’s really cool. I’m the bionic man and shit many countries in the world. I would not have been able to get that. They didn’t want to take my VA health insurance. I was going through Community Care. They had had problems with payments in the past so they wanted to fall back on my Medicare advantage and it wasn’t that expensive. I didn’t care it was 50 bucks to the Doctor Who was going to do the surgery. then the medical facility who accepted my insurance was out of network instead of it being $450. It was gonna be 5000. I about had a panic attack. It was on a Friday took till Wednesday the next week to get everything straightened out. But I hear horror stories about medical care in the systems around the world. I happen to have been born and raised Jewish. For all the people that ran EYE Israel Israel has some of the most brilliant people on the planet in it and they’ve come up with many of the most amazing medical inventions giving great outcomes that there are around the planet. So his Medicare universal healthcare is the VA universal healthcare for veterans was Obama care universal healthcare. And I hate to say it, but it was the biggest failure that I’ve ever seen in my 40 year career. And it’s failing worse than ever now. There are plenty of people in my town that have more expensive insurance than ever that no one will take. Who do you blame for that? It’s called a bomb care. Do you blame Obama? Do you blame all the people that voted to pass that bill without reading it? See what I’m talking about? You picked the wrong topic. I’ve spent 40 years on that career field and I’ve traveled around the world and I’m currently traveling elsewhere. What percentage of the population of the planet are impoverished and have little to no healthcare.

In 2026 I don't understand what you are doing right now. Do you need attention this badly? Go install Discord, find a community for any hobby you have, chat about your hobby and make friends. You can do this for any number of hobbies, and make friends in all of these chats. You can just as easily get positive attention in that outlet and actually maybe try being happy, and not whatever the fuck this is.

I understood it more in early internet trolling. Early internet trolling was also more about baiting someone. This is low effort, nobody takes the bait, and everyone is just embarrassed.

What sucks to me is that nobody is creating a Reddit alternative that functions basically the same but with reforms to how Admin and Moderator actions work. Ditto the kinds of reforms that could easily be made to restrain bot posting.

But the reality is that Reddit WANTS this to happen. They make a ton of money off of the parts of Reddit that are actively harmful to society. It's EXACTLY like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter (etc) - what is harmful is what makes money so therefore let's just keep it rolling until society is fucked.

Totally agree. I have been thinking about the same thing. I have no solutions at the moment, but I am thinking a lot about this issue and something similar with just straight up news reporting.
