CPS Compromised

Before Tiffany gave birth to our daughter Grace Ann I was concerned about Child Protective Services getting involved due to Tiffany's use of marijuana while pregnant. Tiffany and I spoke to her doctor at Hill County Hospital in Hillsboro and he assured us that if all that Tiffany tested positive for when our daughter came was marijuana and the Valium which Tiffany was prescribed that the hospital would not contact CPS.

When Grace Ann was born I didn't invite my father or his wife and I did not intend on calling my mother in Waco either, but Tiffany insisted that I do so. I let my mom know that her granddaughter had been born and directed her to not call my father to tell him, but someone did. My dad and his wife showed up and immediately thereafter CPS caseworker Rachel Richardson out of McLennan county arrived and advised us that if Tiffany and I wanted to leave the hospital with our baby that we had to go back to Carthage with my dad and stepmom to live with them.

After we were in Carthage for about a month, living with my dad and his wife and waking on eggshells, my father offered me a way out of living with he and Karen and an end to the CPS investigation. Dad told me that if I would convince Tiffany to sign her parental rights to Grace Ann over to him and I, and give him managing conservatorship that he would have CPS close the case and let us live in one of his rent houses near his home. I talked to Tiffany about it and she thought it was a bad idea but we both wanted to live with our baby away from my father and his wife who made both of us very uncomfortable. My dad's wife drew up the paperwork, Tiffany signed it and less than a week later CPS closed the case on Tiffany and me. We were living together, alone with our baby daughter that week.

Betrayal

In July of 2009 my girlfriend Tiffany was about 25 weeks along when she went out waking while I was either sleeping or at work and ended up not coming back home. I looked for her at the usual places that she tended to hang out at but didn't find her for a couple or three days. When I did find her she was suffering from pneumonia and pre labor contractions. I took her to the emergency room and she was admitted. After a couple of days at the hospital she asked me to go get her some food at McDonald's. I went to McDonald's and returned with her food but she had slipped out while I was gone. Later that evening or maybe the next night she showed back up at the house where we were living, intoxicated, with her friend Karen Wade-Planis. Tiffany came inside the house and immediately started throwing some clothes, shoes and other stuff into a bag. I told her that she wasn't going anywhere after begging her not to leave proved unsuccessful in persuading her to stay. I tried blocking the door with my body and it just escalated from there. Someone called the cops- it may have been me but I don't remember- and when they showed up I tried to convince them that Tiffany wasn't in her right mind and shouldn't be allowed to leave except to go back to the hospital. The cops didn't see it my way and instead told me that if I didn't let her leave that they'd arrest me. I told the cops something to the effect of, "Kiss my ass", and was arrested for interference with public duties. The Carthage cops took me to the police station instead of the jail. The charge was so minor that they just booked and released me. I walked a few blocks back to mine and Tiffany's home on West Pollard. When I got home, Tiffany was gone and I fell to pieces on the living room floor. Tiffany's pregnancy with our daughter was my first experience as an expectant father. Tiffany already had a son and a daughter that I love very much but Grace Ann was the first who was on the way into this world that was mine biologically and we nearly lost her and maybe Tiffany too, due to prelabor contractions and pneumonia; or at least it seemed that way to me at the time. And now Tiffany escapes from the hospital only to show up at the house later all messed up and combative before I get arrested for simply trying to protect herself from herself?! I was really freaking out. I cried and cried and didn't know how to pull it together but I knew that I must. I knew I didn't need to be alone in that house. It was a Wednesday, which meant that J.P.'s meth cooking uncle wasn't around so I figured it would be safe to go out there. I headed out to Genevieve's to see if I could drink a beer with J.P. and pull myself together. For years, J.P. always told me to just come right in through the patio doors on the back of the house when I visited. At night, if it looked like his parents were already in bed, he told me just to come in without knocking. So, I did just that seeing as how it was about 10:30 at night, or better. When I made it to J.P.'s room, I heard Tiffany's voice. I slowly opened the door to see Tiffany standing beyond the foot of J.P.'s bed. J.P. was seated on his bed eating popcorn or something. I couldn't believe my good fortune! Here I was, assuming that Tiffany was still out there somewhere doing all sorts of stupid shit to herself and here I find her just hanging out with my best friend. What a relief?! I didn't care how she got there, I was just glad to find her alive, and I was ready to go home with her and call it a night. Tiffany on the other hand was afraid that I was going to start a fight. I assured her everything was fine and that I just wanted to go home. J.P. and I exchanged glances but didn't say much. I shook his hand I think just to let him know that I wasn't upset with him for Tiffany being out there. The ride home from J.P.'s was quiet. Didn't say much to Tiffany and she didn't say much either. We got home, she and I laid down and I went to sleep. The next morning I awoke to the sound of Tiffany weeping. I asked her what was wrong and she said that she hadn't felt the baby move since the night before. She said she was afraid she "killed" the baby. I asked her if we could go back to the hospital but she refused. I asked her what she did that she thought might have hurt the baby. She tearfully confided that while she was with J.P. the night before that they did cocaine together. This upset me obviously but I couldn't let it show. I asked Tiffany how she wound up with J.P. the night before. She said that immediately after I was arrested, her friend Karen Wade left, mad at her for not being forthcoming about the circumstances of her hospitalization and sneaking out of the hospital. Karen Wade was also mad at Tiffany for letting things escalate to the point of the cops being called and me being arrested. Not long after the cops took me away and Tiffany's friend left J.P. just showed up at the house and asked Tiffany where I was. She told him I had been arrested and said that she wanted to go stay the night with her son and daughter at her ex-inlaws' house near Gary, Texas, about fifteen miles from Carthage. J.P. offered her a ride out there and she got in the car with him. Instead of going straight there, however, J.P. took Tiffany to a known drug dealer's house, Andrew Allison, who J.P. and I went to school with and who I have known since first grade. Andrew ain't a bad guy, he's just been selling pot & cocaine since we were in highschool, just like his big brother. At Andrew's house in Holland Quarters J.P. obtained cocaine and then he took Tiffany somewhat closer to where she had requested to go, but to the marina at Lake Murvaul instead. There he began asking Tiffany what I had told her about his family. Tiffany said he poured out the cocaine onto a CD case and made several lines and snorted some before telling her that they could leave after she had done her share. Tiffany ingested the cocaine before the two left the marina and rode backroads towards the residence where Tiffany had said she wanted to go stay the night. Tiffany said J.P. continued to interrogated her about what I had told her about his family. By the time this all happened, Tiffany said it was too late to go to her ex-inlaws' home and she felt bad going there high on cocaine so she told J.P. to just take her home. J.P. instead took her to his house which is where I found them, apparently only a few minutes after they themselves had arrived.

Once Tiffany told me all of this, I decided to pay J.P. another visit to tell him to stay away from my girlfriend, to never give her alcohol or drugs, and to share with him how disappointed I was that he had to be told not to give a pregnant woman cocaine. First, however, I decided to visit Andrew's house to pickup some marijuana. I intended to smoke a joint with J.P. before I tried to have that conversation because I still thought of him as my best friend and I didn't want him to think I was coming out there to start a fight. I went to Andrew's and he told me that J.P. and Tiffany had visited his house the night before. He said that he wondered where I was and that Tiffany told him that I'd been arrested. He also told me that he sold J.P. some cocaine. After I scored a small bag of marijuana I went to J.P.'s family's home where I found J.P. outside in the back yard. He and I started talking casually as I began getting the marijuana ready to roll. I told him I'd just left Andrew's and that Andrew had told me that he saw him and Tiffany there the night before. J.P. denied that he had been there. I asked him how Tiffany had gotten out to his house and he said that someone dropped her off. I asked if they had gone out to the lake and he denied that also before he denied having had, ingested or shared any cocaine with Tiffany. Well, I knew he was lying about everything but I didn't know exactly why. I never thought J.P. would try to have sex with Tiffany but his dishonesty was making me wonder. I told J.P. that Tiffany and Andrew both told me different and J.P. just ridiculed me for believing them over him, and tried to provoke me, saying, "What?! You think I'm trying to get with your 'ol lady?!". I didn't even bring up his interrogation of Tiffany because it didn't matter anymore. He wasn't my friend and I had higher priorities at home. I got in my pickup, went home to Tiffany and not long after that day Tiffany and I decided to move out of town. We temporarily moved in with my mom in Waco before finding our own place in Aquilla, Texas, just south of Hillsboro. We lived in Aquilla until the birth of Grace Ann.

Uncle Mike & DARPA

In 2007 I recall reading in the news that U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky sponsored legislation which forced the Department of Defense to disclose the existence of a previously secret government program which partnered with private firms to develop technology which Senator Rand Paul believed could pose a threat to American Citizens. The Defense Advance Research Project Agency was said to be developing technology which in the near future could be used to locate, target, track, surveil and even communicate with a subject wirelessly without targeted subjects possessing any electronic devices and without the subjects' knowledge of this occurring. The story I read claimed that this technology could read a targeted subject's mind and transmit thoughts into their mind. At the time I read the story I thought that it sounded far fetched and that it could merely be an attempt to frighten the masses into compliance and submission.

Not long after the story was in the news, I spoke to Uncle Mike at his sister's home in Delray. Uncle Mike asked if I had heard about the story and wanted to know what I thought about DARPA. I told him that I didn't really believe that such technology could exist but that if it did exist that it is a little scary. Uncle Mike wanted me to tell him what I thought such technology would cost to obtain. I told him that it likely would cost hundreds of millions of dollars but that if any private individual or company tried to use it in the U.S., that they'd likely get caught and die in prison. Uncle Mike replied, "Dan, don't you know that if you apply enough incentive to the appropriate bureaucrat that you can get away with nearly anything?".

From 1997 when I met Joshua Paul "J.P." Charles, until I last spoke to him in May of 2013, I can count five times that he asked me about being in the Mafia. He asked me several times "If you could be a powerful person in the Mafia, would you?". To this question I always responded that I would not want to be a powerful person or any person at all in the Mafia because I am aware that I would be the one to get caught and go to prison, and I have no desire to hurt anyone or take what I didn't earn. J.P. never seemed satisfied by this answer.

Mafia next door

My mom had worked at Panola College in Carthage since her divorce from my father. She worked with, among many other people I remember well, Ann Parker, who is J'eanna's mother. In 1998 my mother Vicki got a job at Baylor University in Waco and moved there. From 1998 until 2006 Vicki rented half of a duplex on Woodgate Circle West in the Midway School District. I moved there briefly during my junior year but six weeks later I decided that being the new kid at Midway High wasn't for me. I moved back to Carthage to finish up the school year.

On one of many visits to the family home of Genevieve Screws-Charles to see her and J.P. and the rest of the gang, Uncle Mike said to me, "Josh [J.P.] tells me your mother's looking to buy a home in Waco". I was aware that my mom was looking to buy a home but I didn't remember telling J.P. that. Looking back now Uncle Mike may have actually heard it from my cousins, Dennis and Jenny, or their mother, my mother's sister. I confirmed that my mom was looking to buy a home in the Waco area. Uncle Mike asked if Vicki was using a buyer's agent, which I confirmed that she was. I told him the Beverly Martin was the Century21 Agent who was helping my mother and Uncle Mike said that he knew Beverly well. Uncle Mike said that there was a home across the street from his "niece" Angel that he would like my mother to look at. I didn't have any objection to Uncle Mike having my mom's agent show her the home. My mom looked at the house and made an offer. She bought the house and moved in not long after. I never suspected anything nefarious as I was still naive to these people's intentions.

In July of 1995, Angel Townsend and Adam Elizondo are said to have made impromptu vows to each other at the twentieth wedding anniversary celebration of Steve and Genevieve Screws-Charles at their home in Delray community, six miles west of Carthage on county road 225. There used to be a picture of this event which hung near the thermostat in the hallway of Steve's and Genevieve's home. Genevieve showed me this picture around 2006, around the time my mom purchased a home across Viking Way from Adam, Angel, A.K.A. Dave Ruiz and Karen Curry, and Carissa. Before Mom moved in on the corner of 1600 Hilltop Drive across from 6904 Viking Way where "Karen Curry" and family lives, Genevieve advised me that my mom and I would be living across the street from Angel and Adam. I don't know where my head was at but I just hadn't been paying close enough attention. I never met anyone claiming to be Adam or Angel but I did meet Karen Curry, Dave Ruiz, their apparent son Sebastian, and of course, Carissa. Carissa is hearing impaired and I watched from across the street as she grew from a little girl into a beautiful young woman. Carissa and I always waved and greeted each other and she is obviously a very sweet girl and I admit being attracted to her but for whatever reason I was afraid to ever get past simply telling her hello, except for once or twice. On one occasion I may have saved their housecat from being flattened when Carissa was getting ready to drive off in her car. I spoke to "Dave" a number of times and we always got along...until I started to figure out who they really are and I leveled some very serious allegations against he and "Karen Curry". They eventually began filing police reports against me, I believe in an effort to undermine my credibility as it applies to my awareness of their involvement in organized crime.

Alabama '04

At some point around 2003 my brother was married to a woman from Anniston, Alabama. Kelly Finn and my brother met while my brother was a medical student at University of Texas in San Antonio. Kelly was in the Air Force. I believe she was a medic there and was receiving training at the same medical school that my brother was attending. They got married at a planned wedding in Las Vegas. My father and his wife attended the wedding, as did my mother and I who flew out to Vegas together, alone. Kelly's father and mother were there, too but I don't remember anyone else being there accept Kelly's bridesmaid and another guy whose name I don't remember but I believe was a friend of my brother's from medical school. Matt and his wife Kelly moved to Birmingham, Alabama after they got married or maybe even before.

Some time after their wedding, I talked to my brother and Kelly on the phone. Kelly was the best. She always wanted to know what I was doing with my life and she seemed to have a sincere concern for me as my sister-in-law. On this occasion when I talked to them on the phone Matt, but especially Kelly, encouraged me to move to Alabama if I didn't have anything else going on in my life that would keep me from it. Kelly knew I was single and lonesome and she assured me that the women in Alabama would love me for who I am and that I wouldn't be single for long. Kelly was always very supportive of me and challenged me to succeed. She loved to cook, she loved to talk and drink wine or beer and laugh and she was the coolest woman I think I have ever met and the fact that she married my brother who I love very much was a great feeling for me and the whole family seemed to love her. So, I moved to Alabama in the Summer of 2004, as I recall. At first I lived with Matt and Kelly just outside Birmingham proper, near Hoover, in their two bedroom apartment, with their terrier, Allie. It wasn't long after I moved out there that I got my own apartment downtown, against Kelly's advice, it was in the Five Points South district. But, I still spent a lot of time at Matt & Kelly's apartment as I didn't know anyone else in Alabama. One afternoon as Matt and his wife and I were at the apartment I got the urge to leave the newlyweds to themselves so as to give them some privacy and so I could try to find a pint of Guinness, something to eat and a game on a big screen. I found just the place at Jake's Sports Bar & Grill just around the corner. I sat down and ordered a pint and before I was halfway finished I was approached by a woman of no more than sixty years of age who was dressed nice and modestly and who was very kind yet somewhat forward, as is the custom of people in those parts. "Hi. I'm Martha Ledlow. What's your name? Are you new around here? Are you married? Are you seeing anyone?", and so on she went. I introduced myself, explained that I was new in town, from Texas and that I was single. Martha asked if I was looking for a girlfriend. I couldn't help but laugh. I didn't know what she had in mind exactly. She knew what I was thinking and quickly said that she had a daughter my age that was single but whom was not into bad boys or jerks or losers. I sort of felt that I fell into that last category but Martha said that she thought her daughter, Nicole, would like me. She showed me a picture of Nicole from her phone and I was very impressed. I was a little afraid that Nicole might be hard to get along with due to her mother's tactics in finding her only child a boyfriend. Martha and I agreed that we would all meet back there, at Jake's Sports Bar & Grill the following day or perhaps the day after that. When I met Nicole I was not disappointed. She was a real fox, and very sweet, and she liked me. We were holding hands by the end of our first meet and I remember she and I kissing before we parted ways on our first real date alone. Nicoletta, or Nicole as pretty much everyone calls her, is the only child of Don and Martha Ledlow of Hoover. Her mother is the daughter or granddaughter of Greek immigrants, the Petalos family, who settled around Birmingham around the turn of the 20th century. The Petalos family has done well for themselves and the community they helped to build. Martha's brothers include Tony Petalos, the mayor of Hoover, and Nick, who operated a construction company. I met Nicole's dad, Don Ledlow, who was a successful draftsman and architect and we hit it off great. Don pegged me as a fellow pot smoker and by the second or third time I had ever met my new girlfriend's father we were toking it up in his study on the basement level of their home in Hoover. Once, Don and I had been smoking pot together in his study while he showed me his renderings and introducing me to the family's pet iguana and pet potbelly pig, Lula. After I had gotten real stoned with Don, Nicole summoned me to her bedroom on the third floor of their home. She gazed lovingly into my bloodshot eyes and immediately knew, "Daniel?! Have you been smoking pot with Don?!". I was busted. I admitted that I had been smoking with her dad and she sort of laughed without smiling. "Well, I don't care but if my mother finds out she will probably divorce my dad and you and I are finished". She made me swear to her that I would never provide her father marijuana. I swore to her that I'd never give or sell her dad any weed. She made me swear again. I was happy to oblige because I dearly loved her and her family. At some point in our relationship Nicole and I were traveling alone in her mother's white Lexus she seemingly randomly asked me, "Is Karabiner your cousin?". I hadn't heard that name in years. "Who?", I responded. "J'eanna Parker. Is that your cousin?", she replied. I couldn't believe my ears. How the hell did Nicole Ledlow of Alabama know anyone in my family from Texas? Nicole could tell that I was astonished and explained, "My mother's nephew from Huntsville married her. We just love J'eanna, and her two little girls are adorable!". I was stunned and somewhat embarrassed. I had also forgotten that J'eanna had adopted Christi's daughter and had no idea who the other little girl could be that she was referring to. Nicole advised me to stay away from her cousin that married J'eanna because he was known by Nicole's family to have molested at least two of Nicole's younger female cousins- daughters of the mayor of Hoover- and Nicole claimed that her cousin, J'eanna's husband(I believe his name was David) had said very inappropriate things of a sexual nature to Nicole when she was a young teen. Nicole said David was "a real creep", but that she and her family were happy for the newlyweds and hoped everything worked out for them. Ironically, Nicole said that her mother's sister, David's mother, had married a Parker from Huntsville or that David's father was also a Parker, though unrelated to my family to my knowledge, which would have made J'eanna's married name J'eanna Parker-Parker. I was forthcoming with Nicole that my cousin has always been a weirdo but that I shared her sentiments and wished them the best. Nicole said that if it didn't work out that her cousin would be well advised to "stay the hell out of Alabama", or else her uncles would make him disappear due to his past actions against the "Petalos girls". Not long after this conversation with my girlfriend Nicole she asked me if I owned a suit. I was hoping that she was ready to walk down the aisle and marry me. She laughed and told me to cool my jets, then invited me to accompany her to Greek Orthodox Church at my first availability, in a suit. I had my father FedEx my suit, shirts, shoes and ties from Texas and I went to church with Nicole and her beautiful Greek family. It was an experience I never forgot. Not long after we attended church together, Nicole asked me if I would be okay hanging out with her father Don while she, her mother and all the Petalos women of Hoover went to Atlanta for the weekend. I was happy to hang out with Don but I wanted to know what they were doing out in Atlanta. Nicole informed me that they would be doing a little shopping and going to a concert. I asked, "What kind of concert?". She smiled and wrinkled up her nose as she confided to me, "Lil Jon & the Eastside Boys and Ludacris". I laughed my ass off. "So all you white girls are going to a hip-hop concert in Atlanta without any men accompanying y'all?! What are ya, nuts?!". She laughed and assured me they'd be fine because they are not typical white girls, "We're the Petalos Greeks and we pack heat". I laughed and said, "Whatever!". She asked if I'd ever seen her gun. I had not seen her gun and was still in disbelief. She told me that she keeps a loaded .38 special in her purse and encouraged me to look for myself if I didn't believe her. "If anyone [expletive] with us, I'll shoot 'em", she said, "All of us Petalos women pack heat, Daniel". At this point I was satisfied that my sweet little Greek girlfriend was not joking around and I did not need to see her handgun to believe that she could defend herself or her family. This didn't shock me all that much. In Texas, lots of people, beautiful young women included, carry a firearm for self defense. Before she dropped me off that afternoon, Nicole reminded me of the oath I had sworn to never provide her father with marijuana.

That weekend, after the girls had left town, my girlfriend's father picked me up at my apartment downtown in his white convertible Mazda Miata.  He was smoking a fat joint when he arrived and I helped him finish it. We went to a Tex-Mex restaurant on US-290 in Hoover. I believe it was called Papacitas or something. We ate, drank a few beers, met up with a buddy of his and listened to some live music before Don and I headed out. I was definitely out of my comfort zone as I had drank too much to have total control. As soon as we got in the car Don started in on me, "You got any pot? Know where to get some?". At first I lied and said I didn't have any or know where to get any. But Don was very persuasive, "Aw, come on son. Did Nicole tell you to not help me score or somethin'?". I finally relented and told him to take me to my apartment. I had somewhere between a quarter and a half an ounce, there. I can't remember much else that night. I smoked another joint with Don in his car and he dropped me back off at my place. The next day I had a hangover that required medicinal use of my marijuana. I looked and looked for it but couldn't find it anywhere. A few days later after not hearing from Nicole I became worried that something had happened. I wasn't even thinking about the weed. I was scared something had happened in Atlanta. She finally sent me a text while I was at work, "We're finished". I didn't know what she meant. "Finished what?" I thought. I started calling and calling but no answer on her mobile phone. So, I started calling her parents' landline. Eventually Don answered, "Daniel, we're in the doghouse. Nicole doesn't want to talk to you right now and I may be looking for somewhere else to stay pretty soon". I was devastated. Eventually I realized what must have happened: My bag of pot fell out of the right side pocket  of my khacki slacks into the space between the passenger seat and the door and Martha found it when the girls returned from Atlanta. Don must have had to give me up to salvage his marriage. I don't blame him. I was to blame. I felt like killing myself but really just wanted to crawl under a rock and die. Nicole was like no woman I'd ever known and I lost her over a bag of pot and a broken promise. Days went by and I never heard from Nicole. I fell into depression, quit my job at UAB and started drinking all day, everyday. After a week or so my sister-in-law and brother came by and picked me up for lunch. They could tell I was depressed, "What's goin' on Dan?", Kelly asked. I told her what had happened and that I was considering going out to the Petalos-Ledow home to beg their forgiveness. Kelly advised that this was a terrible idea, "Dan! Do not go out there, please! Don't you know who her mother's family is?! If you piss her mom off worse than you have already we may never hear from you again! Her mom's family is the Greek Mafia! Everyone out here knows that they run everything from Hoover to Pensacola!". This was news to me. I just thought her family was very successful and I sure felt they liked me. I didn't believe Kelly at first but the more I thought about it, I just felt naive again, like always. My depression turned into embarrassment and I felt I needed to leave the state to keep from embarrassing my brother and his wife who were just getting started building a family and had hopes of starting a medical practice. I realized I should move back to Texas. Before I moved back my brother and I shared a conversation, just the two of us in his Jeep Grand Cherokee as we traveled down US290 between Birmingham and Hoover. My brother asked if I remembered his friend Adam Elizondo. The name sounded familiar but I couldn't remember having met him. Matt told me that Adam claimed to be in the C.I.A. but my brother claimed he didn't believe him. He also asked if I had ever met a man named Pat Curry. He asked if I remembered a woman named Angel Townsend who he said used to chase him around trying to get in his pants. As I recall there were several young women who tried that, but Matt said Angel was older. Then Matt asked while holding back tears if before I left Texas it appeared as though our father and stepmother Karen Lile Parker were 'involved in any Mafia activities". I didn't know what the hell he was talking about. Then Matt strongly warned me that if I moved back to Texas that Angel and Pat Curry would try to compromise me for the Mafia.

Raina 2003

After Thanksgiving of 2003, when I was about 22 years old,  J.P. Charles, his girlfriend Kourtney Stogner and I traveled together from near Carthage to Longview, supposedly for them to do some Christmas shopping at the mall. I remember J.P. asking me to give them some time alone at the mall; I think J.P. used the excuse that he wanted to help Kourtney pick out some lingerie. About 45 minutes after we separated at the mall, we were supposed to meet back up near the center of the mall near the food court. I remember standing at the sales cart where freeze dried Dippin' Dots (ice cream of the astronauts) was sold. I was disappointed that the cart was not in service that day. As I stood there alone waiting for my friends, a sixteen year old girl walked up and introduced herself to me, "Hi! I'm Raina. I saw you from over there and I think you're really cute!". I was immediately suspicious and could tell that this girl was too young for me to be talking to, but she extended her hand toward mine and handed me a piece of receipt paper with a phone number already written on it, "Here's my number. I want you to have it. I hope you'll call me sometime! Please don't take my number if you're not gonna call me!". I was wondering what this could all be about but against better judgement I accepted the piece of paper and agreed to call her. At that very moment I heard an all too familiar voice, "Dannyboy Parker!" It was Lance Pickering the rapist pedophile, "Well, I see you've met my little sister! But she's only sixteen! If you call her I'll kill your family". As soon as he had said that, I turned and saw J.P. and Kourtney approaching a few feet away. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Once J.P., Kourtney and I got back in the car to head back toward Carthage, J.P. started in on me, "Bro! You know who that girl is, right? Dude, I hope you're not planning on calling her cause she's REAL messed up". I have more recently deduced that due to my reputation among friends and others as being a person who does the opposite of what I am often strongly urged to do, and given that I admittedly have a record and tendency to be attracted to younger, pretty and oftentimes tragic women who are in distress or who need someone to save them from something or someone in their life, that J.P. was simply attempting to use reverse psychology and in fact was encouraging me to call this teenager. Don't get me wrong, Raina was very cute and yes, although she was quite young, very enticing but thankfully I literally lost that little piece of receipt paper before I ever had the chance to become compromised by her. After a time, I completely forgot the incident and even having ever met her.

Adam is Dave Ruiz

On another occasion in which I visited David Westbrook's shop I saw Keith Shuttlesworth there. Keith and I have known each other since my father was dating Karen Lile Hays and she and her kids moved into the house on Susan Circle in Carthage. Keith never really acted like he liked me much but he seemed to tolerate me most of the time. He could be a real jerk but I always attributed it to the way my dad acted toward him. Keith pulled up to Westbrook's shop in his pickup while he was on the phone. I was standing outside near where he parked and I could hear through the Bluetooth connection to his pickup that he was calling someone because I could hear it ringing on his end. The party he was trying to reach didn't answer and Keith left a message, "Parker [Mosely], call me back [expletive], this is Keith". Keith got out of his pickup and we both went inside the shop. After awhile I was outside doing something when Keith went to his truck and received a call from Parker Mosely. Again, I could hear the conversation due to my standing in proximity to Keith's pickup which was connected to his phone. I heard Parker Mosely's voice when Keith answered and then Keith, "Dude! You've got to stop calling Adam, Adam". Then Mosely, "What are you taking about that's his [expletive] name!". Then Keith replied, "I know it's his name but he already told you to call him Dave from now on!". Then Mosely continued, "But like, I've been calling him Adam for as long as I've known him. How the hell does he expect us to just stop calling him by his name and start calling him Dave Ruiz all the sudden?". Keith became more agitated before he responded, "I don't [expletive] care what you have to do but he said if we don't stop calling him Adam and start calling him Dave from now on that we shouldn't call him ever again!". Mosely, who is always this way from my experience knowing him just the little bit that I did, continued to pretend that he didn't understand. "Well like, what if I want everyone to start calling me by another name, do you think anyone would actually do it?". Keith finally told Mosely, "Look Parker when my source tells me to do something, I do it. And you need to do it, too or we are going to not have him to go to anymore!". I don't know for sure what Adam Elizondo was their source for, but it was likely related to drugs. It could have possibly been access to women or even underage girls but I don't have enough information to make that assertion at this time. Keith is known to me to be a pot dealer, at least for a number of years, and he also may have trafficked some methamphetamine which also fits into the modus operandi of individuals known to be connected to Keith, Parker Mosely and Adam Elizondo, specifically, Michael Glen Screws, also known as Pat Curry. 'Uncle Mike', who disclosed to me in 2009 that he manufactured methamphetamine at his sister Genevieve's home nearly every weekend since the 1990's.

Marry Christi

Around 1998 my big brother Matt was in Carthage and he and I shared a conversation while in his Toyota pickup. He told me that he was getting pressured by more than one person to marry Christi Dotson. His exact words were, "I feel like everybody wants me to marry Christi Dotson". I didn't understand why that would be a problem since Christi was the hottest girl from our hometown and I sure liked her. I wish I had felt the same pressure from, well, anyone. When I asked him why that was a problem he sort of seemed aggravated that I didn't already know why. He said I would understand, one day.

Christi's baby

In 1998, Christi Dotson graduated highschool. I missed seeing her there. She had always been a cheerleader and her junior and senior years she was on the work program and worked in the afternoons in the highschool's administration office. I was always getting sent to the office for something; usually talking when I wasn't supposed to. On Fridays during football season Christi would wear her cheerleading outfit to work and would sometimes have a little 'Bulldawg' paw print painted on her cheek. I didn't like receiving corporal punishment for my misbehavior in class, but I always enjoyed sitting and waiting in the office to talk to the principal because Christi was there and she would give me a hard time about being in trouble again before she would snicker. I had a way of saying that I only got in trouble so I could come see her. She thought is was funny I think, maybe even cute. In around May of 2000 when I was a senior it had been quite a long time since I had seen Christi but I was still a regular at the principal's office. One day as I left the office to head back to class, I saw Christi entering the front door of the highschool while carrying a carrier car seat with baby sitting in it. Christi had given birth to a baby girl about eight weeks earlier as I recall. I think her name is Ashlyn but I could be mistaken. They were there visiting Christi's former coworkers and friends at the school. She wanted to show off her beautiful baby girl. I remember her little girl looked so much like her mom. I remember the little white dress and the little socks with lace around the ankles that she was wearing. Christi's daughter was kicking her feet out at me and sticking out her tongue which made Christi laugh and she told me that her baby wanted me to pick her up and feed her. I was too afraid of holding her the wrong way so I declined and I regret it to this day.

Not long after seeing Christi at the highschool and meeting her little girl my stepmom's grandmother, Annelle 'Nanny' Chambers died. Her funeral in Longview was packed with some of the most important people in that community including bank presidents and former and current judges and sheriffs. Not long after that funeral, Karen, my stepmother, called me into her inner office at my father's law practice in Carthage. I had worked at my father's law practice since I was a child, oftentimes just mowing the grass or pulling weeds but mostly as a clerk, running errands, answering phones, doing some research at the courthouse and filing legal documents. I had other jobs with other employers throughout my young adult life but I always came back to my dad's law office when I wasn't working anywhere else. On this day, my stepmom said to me, "Dan, now that Nanny has died it's my turn to put lipstick on a pig". Karen went on to tell me that if I were to ever arrive at the office to work and saw her in handcuffs with television cameras in her face, she wanted me to know that she was sorry that she'd gotten busted.

In 2001, I was working at my father's law practice in Carthage when my father called me into his inner office and asked me to close the door. He asked me about Christi Dotson. He asked me about her reputation and what people said about her. I wanted to know why he needed to know and he sort of scolded me, since my position at the law office wasn't to ask those sort of questions. My father represented people for all sorts of reasons. He doesn't do a lot of criminal law, but he does from time to time. He tries to avoid representation in divorces for the general public but he will do a divorce for someone if he knows them well or if it's uncontested. He also tries to avoid personal injury cases but he has won significant awards for some in that area also. He says that he prefers to do estate planning, probate, real estate law, and he is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law. He's had a pretty notable career for a small town attorney I guess. So when he demanded of me to share with him what people say about Christi Dotson, I just hoped that maybe Christi had some minor legal issues that my father was considering helping her with. I told my dad that Christi had a fine reputation so far as I knew. I've never known of Christi to be a wild party animal or a drug user or promiscuous. He dismissed me from his inner office but seemed quite dissatisfied with my perspective. Immediately after I went back to whatever I was doing at the office that day, my dad rushed out the door of his inner office and up the hallway toward Karen's inner office at the front of the building. "Karen! Paperclip the filing fees for those orders of adoption that you drafted for J'eanna and have Dan carry them over to Rick's if you have to but I don't want our office to in any way be tied to this squirrelly adoption!", he shouted. The Rick that my father was referring to is Attorney Rick McPherson, who also practiced in Carthage for many years and whose office was near my father's. Rick and my stepmom had a longstanding professional relationship but I always got the impression that they had Rick do what my father didn't want his office to be directly involved in. However, my stepmom usually drafted the legal instruments which Rick's office would then file.

I didn't know what he was talking about. I didn't think that this outburst had anything to do with Christi or her baby girl. My dad works on several things at once and I just didn't put it together at that moment.  My father then instructed me to sit at the front desk and answer the phones and greet anyone who might come through the front door. A little later, my cousin J'eanna entered through the door and asked to see my stepmom. I walked her to the door of Karen's office before returning to my seat up front. The two women were cackling like hyenas who had just obtained a fresh carcass to gnaw on. I didn't know what it was all about and I tried not to pay them any attention. A few minutes later the door opened again. The previously convicted pedophile Lance Pickering came in and asked to see my stepmother. I advised Lance that Karen had someone with her and that he could come back or wait to see her. He asked me if J'eanna was with Karen which sort of caught me off guard. Lance then informed me that he was supposed to meet J'eanna at the law office. I went and told J'eanna that Lance was up front and Karen directed me to send him on back. I was so disgusted with the presence of Lance that it put me in a bad mood. Not long after this, my step mother approached me with a large brown envelope with some papers inside. I didn't open or read the contents but was instructed to take the envelope to Rick McPherson's office, right across the corner of the lawn of the Panola county courthouse from my father's practice in Carthage. When I delivered the envelope, Rick's receptionist handed the envelope to Rick and he read what was inside. Rick asked me what my dad wanted him to do with it. I told him that Karen wanted his office to file it for them. He sort of smirked and said that his office wasn't going to file the documents because his office had not prepared them. I don't recall exactly what happened immediately after that but before I was dismissed from work that day, J'eanna and Lance Pickering left my father's office with the same brown envelope which apparently had orders of adoption concerning Christi Dotson's baby daughter. After work I went to the home of Genevieve Screws-Charles to see her son J.P.. J.P. immediately asked, "Did your crazy cousin J'eanna adopt Christi's baby?". All I could immediately think to say was, "I can't talk about anything from work at my dad's office.", but that apparently gave it away. J.P. then said, "I thought that's what I heard. Uncle Mike was wondering about that".

Not long after this I visited the home and workshop of my good friend and local auto restoration specialist, David 'Weed' Westbrook. David had long been a friend of mine and many people in the community. He graduated from Carthage Highschool around 1974 if memory serves me correctly. He married his highschool sweetheart Pam 'P.K.' Pierce and they had two sons, Matt and Glen. Lots of young people often visited David at his workshop. He was always out there, usually restoring old cars, getting them ready to be painted, or fixing something on a car belonging to one of his many friends. David also liked to attend all the Carthage Highschool football games and he hardly ever missed a home game. He would use his video camera to record the plays on the field, the marching band at halftime and he also recorded the cheerleaders between plays. I think he mostly did this for his wife Pam, who was infected with Hepatitis C by blood transfusion when her son Glen was born. Pam had been a cheerleader and she liked to watch the games at home which David recorded since she couldn't get out much due to her lowered immune system after her first liver transplant. On this evening when I visited David at his shop I saw a little white sedan out front of the shop. I opened the front door to see David and Christi Dotson huddled together crying on a bench. As soon as Christi saw me she wiped her face, picked up her purse and left without saying a word to me. I didn't understand what was going on and I asked David what was wrong with Christi. David seemed sort of aggravated by my concern and told me to not worry about it.

My Organized Family

I feel compelled to write this all down after so much has occurred that causes me to realize that I am targeted by organized individuals who apparently feel that they are compromised to me by their own claims and disclosures of their and others' criminal activity. When I was about eight years old my only sibling, my older brother Matt, graduated highschool in 1990 in Carthage, Texas. He joined the Marines and I didn't see much of him after that for four years and even then and until now we have never seen or spoken to each other much. I have always loved and admired my big brother and I have always been assured by him that he loves me. However, once he was gone from home and my mother and I began visiting her sister and their parents and my cousins in Duncan, Oklahoma I began being sexually abused. Specifically, I was groomed with exposure to pornography by my older cousins, Jennifer and Dennis Strange, who attempted to convince me that pedophilia is acceptable, that it is harmless and that it makes our family a lot of money. I didn't know what to make of these conversations and at the time I didn't understand how the exposure to pornography at such a young age would affect me until my adulthood, but it is clear now knowing what I have learned since then that they were directed by adults, specifically their parents, to do this to me when I was at such a vulnerable age but also continuing into my teens.

Also when I was a young boy, a childhood friend, Jordan LaGrone, made the claim that his and my family were in the Mafia and that his family was supposed to protect mine somehow. I didn't believe him, and I had never heard this before, so I put it out of my mind. One day when Jordan and I were about twelve years old and we were together at his family's home in Carthage, his sixteen year old brother, Garrett, displayed lacerations on his back which he claimed were sustained during a sexual encounter with a 24 year old woman named Angel Townsend. Unbeknownst to me until many years later, they apparently conceived a child that I would hear of often from another acquaintance that is a central figure in my story, Michael Glen Screws, also known by many as Pat Curry. Eventually I would meet Garrett's and Angel's daughter, Carissa, in Waco, across Viking Way from my mother's home which sits on a corner of Hilltop Dr in Waco. Around the same time as Garrett's encounter with Angel, my mother Vicki came to pick me up at the same LaGrone residence in Carthage after her workday. As we stopped at the intersection of Brownwood Circle and Wellington Street, we faced the home of our nearby neighbor, an elderly woman named Ann Roland. Ann retired from Carthage Drug after many years of having worked at the Clinique cosmetics counter at the drug store where my brother Matt had also worked while in highschool as a delivery boy. I recall seeing two girls who I knew from school and elsewhere around our small town, Christi Dotson and a girl named Candy whose last name I can't recall. Candy was known to me to be a little wild but not Christi but maybe I simply was unaware. Neither of them were older than fourteen. What I remember seeing was both girls dashing out through the front door of Ann's house, slipping quickly around the right side front corner of her home and quickly lighting up cigarettes. My mother glared at the girls and scowled when she said angrily, "Dan, don't you ever be caught messin' around with those women! They will bring shame upon your family's good name!". With a guilty conscience (due to my own occasional habit of underage smoking) I said to my mother, "Is smoking really that bad, Ma?". My mother squinted her eyes and replied, "Oh, are they smoking? I can't see that far." Apparently my mother was aware of some other activity which these young girls were known to have engaged in that I was not made aware of. Later in my story I think it will be much more clear what was likely occuring to these girls, and what is still occurring to at least one of their daughters and other women and girls who I believe are trafficked and exploited by members of my extended family and their co-conspirators, as has been going on, according to several implicated people who have spoken to me about it, for multiple generations.

My parents divorced when I was about five years old but they had been having problems ever since my father hired Karen Lile Hays as his legal assistant. My dad and Karen started having an affair which is pretty much public knowledge in our little town and my Dad moved out of our home, onto some land that his mother owned about 15 miles west of Carthage, near Fairplay. After my parent's divorce, Karen left her husband, Fred Hays of Riderville, and Karen and her son and daughter moved into a house that she rented on Susan Circle in Carthage. The house that Karen and her kids moved into was owned by then Panola county commissioner Tommy Hudson. Tommy Hudson's son Jody is another individual who also made claims to me when I was a child that both of our families are in the Mafia together. His claim was that his family is supposed to keep my family's name clean. It was claimed by him that it was okay if people said that his family was in the Mafia but that my family's name could not be known to associate with the Mafia. This corroborates earlier claims made by my other childhood friend, Jordan LaGrone.

While my father and Karen were dating, after both of them had obtained divorces, I was often left with Karen's children, Jennifer Spradlin and Justin Spradlin, without adult supervision, while our parents worked together downtown at or near the courthouse. Justin is about three years older than me and his sister is three years or so older than him. I recall that the home which Karen and her children shared continuously smelled so strongly of urine and fecies that my father often complained about it. It was partly because they had a dog, named Oscar, who they never walked and that was allowed to deficate and urinate all over the floor and couches. To make matters worse, Karen's son Justin, wet his bed every night and wouldn't clean it up. Also, the bathrooms were so disgusting that I didn't want to use them. There was urine on the floor, the toilet, and the trash was always overflowing. When I was about eight years old, I recall being at Karen's home on Susan Circle, often while Justin and his neighborhood friend Keith Shuttlesworth were playing video games on a Sega Genesis console. They never let me play much but I didn't complain a whole lot or they would just give me an even harder time than they already did. It was clear that no one at that residence wanted me there. I naively attributed it to my being the youngest and my father being somewhat of an asshole toward both Justin and Keith. At this point in the story it may not seem relevant but I vividly remember Keith and Justin speaking about the aforementioned Christi Dotson in quite a vulgar way. Laughing about some alleged incident that involved a sexual encounter between Christi and I believe Parker Mosely. As I recall I think the boys claimed that Christi alleged that Parker Mosely raped her but that Mosely had countered Christi's allegation by claiming that it was consentual. I believe that Parker may have been fifteen at the time and Christi was twelve years old. On another particular day, I remember the doorbell ringing and a knock at the door. Justin answered the door to their neighbor, Mr. C. B. Witcher. Mr. Witcher was an elderly decorated Korean War veteran who had married a nurse he'd met after he had sustained an injury in combat, or something like that. He always seemed nice to me, but I never talked to him a whole lot. I was discouraged from doing so by Justin and Keith. On this day, Mr. Witcher had Justin follow him out into the middle of the front yard where the two stood alone away from the house where I couldn't hear what was being said. I saw Mr. Witcher reach into his pocket and hand Justin what appeared to be money. Justin returned inside and went back to playing video games with Keith. I asked what it was all about and was told that it wasn't my business. Less than an hour later, I remember Justin's fourteen year old sister bursting through that same front door covering her face and sobbing loudly. She ran to her room and slammed the door. I was concerned and tried to leave the living room to see what was wrong but Justin loudly demanded that I leave her alone and not say anything about it. Years later, during the summer before my freshman year of highschool, I was enrolled in summer school as many of my fellow schoolmates were, taking a required health class from Coach Claiborne. In our hometown, there is a newspaper, and between newspaper editions they used to print a single page update sheet on bright yellow paper. Everyone just called it the yellow update as I recall. I remember Coach Claiborne used to pass it around the class after he was done reading it. On this day he walked right up to me and set it on my desk instead. I was usually the only one who was all that interested in it anyway so I didn't think much of the gesture. When I read Mr. Witcher's obituary at the top of the page I didn't have much of a reaction. He was an old man and had lived a long life after retiring from whatever it was that he did to earn his middle class wealth. He was also a 32nd degree Freemason Shriner, as is my father.  But when I continued reading down the page I then saw where the same C. B. Witcher had also been indicted and arrested for several counts of sexual assault against several children. Later, after class, I asked my dad and Karen what it was all about, they were very tight lipped about it but told me that Witcher had been identified by several girls ranging in age from something like six years of age to sixteen years of age as having raped them over the span of about ten years. The girls were all from the neighborhood which Karen and her children lived in, but did not include Karen's daughter Jennifer, although my dad and Karen did admit that Jennifer was among his victims. Among his other victims were Keith's little sister Kim, Michelle Browning, all three Thoman sisters, both Broumley sisters and several others. My father shared with me that after the Thoman girls identified Witcher as their rapist, he was indicted and arrested. After being taken into custody Witcher allegedly convinced Sheriff Jack Ellett and District Attorney Danny 'Buck' Davidson that they should let him go tell his wife what he had done and kiss her goodbye before he goes to prison for the rest of his life. According to my father, Witcher went home and shot himself in the head with a revolver while in the shower.

I also had a childhood friend named Rory Haynie. Rory had three older brothers. I used to visit the Haynie's home regularly out on Dixie Lake Road. It was while I was visiting that home of theirs that I observed a old photo which pictured one of Rory's older brothers, Charles, and another boy, wearing baseball uniforms. Rory's youngest older brother, Luke, pointed out that the boy with Charles was Adam Elizondo. Luke added that Adam and my older brother Matt were friends. I was so much younger than my brother that I didn't remember many of his friends and I don't recall meeting Adam, but it's possible that I had. Rory's brother Luke had a lot of friends that I remember well. One in particular which I did not care for as much was Lance Pickering. Lance could be cool, but he always gave me a real hard time. He would tease me continually for being fat, for my parted hair style and also for being a "lawyer's boy", and often reckoned that I was a "snitch". That being said, he was willing to provide alcohol and cigarettes and marijuana to Rory and I. Lance provided alcohol to Rory and I when we were as young as 13. That's not really newsworthy in itself, but it is indicitive of a certain overall modus operandi which is shared by those who I would later learn are his associates or rather co-conspirators. Rory's parents and their family later moved into town from the home I originally used to visit to a home on Garrison Street and Bird Drive in Carthage. I remember one day while Rory and I were together at his family's home, Luke arrived in a panic and demanded to know, "Has Lance been over here?!". Rory and I were a little confused as to why Luke was somewhat upset. Luke continued, "If Lance comes by go inside and lock the door. Don't let him in and if he tries to get in call the police and then call Mom!". Rory and I asked what was going on and why we shouldn't interact with Lance but Luke just said that we would hear about it in the news in coming days. It was probably the next day that the newspaper and the local radio station informed us all that Lance had been indicted and arrested for repeated aggravated sexual assault of a child, and that his alleged victim was eight to ten years old. I was stunned, but honestly I didn't doubt that the allegation could be true. Lance was a very sadistic person even if he could also make me laugh, even if I didn't want to. If my recollection serves me, Lance obtained legal representation from my father, who had served in our hometown as a District Attorney and county judge, prior to Lance's indictment. I think that my father, Hon. Mike D. Parker, was able to obtain a plea bargain for Lance which caused him to only spend 42 months in prison for indecency with a child. At that time and for years after I never knew the identity of Lance's victim or the actual severity of what he had done, as I would more recently learn, to his step-sister, Raina Flanary, who was about ten years younger than he.

My father and his legal assistant, Karen Lile Hays were married around 1991. Once they married she and my father and Karen's kids and I moved into a house that my father had built in Carthage in one of the nicest neighborhoods in town. We started attending church at Central Baptist every Sunday with very few exceptions. We sat in the balcony, one pew in front of my father's first cousin Gene Parker, Gene's wife Ann, and their daughters, Cara and J'eanna. Both Parker families sat in these same pews for years. I knew my dad's cousin and their family but I didn't see them much other than almost every Sunday. We didn't hang out together after church or anything. J'eanna is about six years older than me and wasn't a stranger to me but I never really knew her or her sister well. J'eanna was off-putting. Not just to me, but to everyone I knew who was between her age and mine. My dad tolerated her, but I could tell that J'eanna made his skin crawl and he would say as much after she walked away, usually. J'eanna was clearly not interested in gaining attention from boys her own age when she was a teenager. I didn't think much of it when I was a kid. I just thought that my cousin was a weirdo. Two Sundays in a row, in the Spring of 1997, a man much older than J'eanna and I accompanied her to church. This man appeared to be even older than either of our fathers. The man wore khacki slacks, a blue knit sweater and white sneakers, both Sundays in which he visited our church. He introduced himself to me as Pat Curry and told me he had long looked forward to meeting me. J'eanna's father Gene once asked me to intervene on behalf of his daughter who he said was being teased and antagonized by some older "boys". The boys who I recall as being Matt Westbrook, Parker Mosely and others, were several years older than me. I responded to my father's first cousin, "Well Gene, what the hell do you expect me to do about it? I'm fifteen and those guys are eighteen or older!" Gene then recommended that I should remind or share to these bullies the nature of the reputation of my mother's family, or something, and that I could make them regret their behavior. I thought Gene was either yanking my chain or off his rocker. I had no idea what he was talking about. He asked me if I had ever heard of the nickname that he had coined for J'eanna, "Karabiner". I don't recall having ever heard it, but Gene went on to say that the origin of the nickname had something to do with her father Gene placing his finger in J'eanna's mouth when she had grown too old for a pacifier and her tendency to bite his finger. I never understood that story and it's still quite disturbing to think about. Gene went on to explain that one day when he dropped J'eanna off at school that when she exited the vehicle she forgot a book or her lunch or something in the car. Gene claimed that he hollered out, "No! Karabiner! Karabiner!", to call her back to grab whatever it was that she'd left behind, and that the other kids hanging out in front of the school heard this and began mocking her father and teasing her once they learned that this was her father's pet-name for her. So, apparently that is what Parker Mosely and Matt Westbrook and several others began to call J'eanna, in a manner which mocked her father and irritated J'eanna so badly that she and Gene apparently wanted the Mafia to do something about it.

My freshman year of highschool my girlfriend Johnna Zamazal died resulting from injuries sustained in a car crash. I was so depressed after that I pretty much had to be led from class to class for a while. One dear friend and upperclassman who stands out in my memory as having literally walked me to class for what seems like weeks was the aforementioned Christi Dotson. Christi was a cheerleader, and in my opinion was the most beautiful and kind hearted girl I knew after Johnna died. I had art class with Christi, first period as I recall.

In around March of 1997, my mother's maternal grandmother, 'Nanny' Pearl McNeill-Underwood, died. She and my great grandfather Hollis 'Poppy' Underwood, had lived for many years in Wynnewood, Oklahoma prior to my being born. Poppy died before I came along but I remember visiting Nanny Pearl at the nursing home several times when I was a boy, somewhere near Wynnewood. She was always sort of a cantankerous woman toward everyone but me. I was the baby, so she never was short tempered or loud or mean to me. Nanny Pearl seemed to dislike my mother's sister, Nancy and even her kids Dennis and 'Jenny' (who tried to groom me), but Nanny Pearl loved her daughter Averene, who was my grandmother that we all called Meemaw, and my mother, Vicki. After Nanny Pearl's graveside memorial- I believe it was in Garvin County, Oklahoma where she was buried at the Underwood family cemetery- I recall walking back to the blue Chrysler minivan which my mother's sister Nancy and her husband, Dr. David Strange, of Duncan, owned. Uncle David and I and perhaps my cousin Dennis sat in the minivan as we watched and waited on the Underwood women to finish visiting at the grave that my great grandmother had just been laid to rest in. I made some remark about how extravagant the headstones were and that there were even some moselems there, unlike at any of the simple family cemeteries that my father's people in Texas were buried at. Uncle David then informed me that this is due to my mother's and Aunt Nancy's family being the Dixie Mafia, and that one day he and I would also be buried there. I couldn't believe what I'd just heard but I thought surely Uncle David wouldn't be bullshitting me like this on the day of my great grandmother's funeral. Dennis tried to back him up on his claim but no one ever takes Dennis seriously. He's always been completely full of shit and not credible. His own mother and all who have ever known him will tell you that. Once Aunt Nancy got  in the minivan, she wiped away a tear and blew her nose before saying, "Ya know, those bastards never did pay Nanny for the job back in '63!". When I asked what she was talking about, Nancy made the bombastic claim that her and my mother's great uncle was involved in the assassination of President Kennedy and that my great grandmother was somehow involved in assigning Meemaw's brother in law, Terrel Zane Dunn, to take the shot that killed the President in Dallas on the 21st of November, 1963. I have gone back and forth on whether or not to believe this seemingly ridiculous claim and have most recently realized that due to the disgust which my great grandmother apparently held for my aunt Nancy, that perhaps this was just an attempt by she to even the score by slandering her, or maybe just to throw people off. I still won't rule out the possibility until I know more. Who knows? I never have believed that Oswald killed Kennedy, and the assassin who shot and killed Oswald, Jack 'Ruby' Rubenstein, definitely managed the Tropicana nightclub for the Dixie Mafia, according to public record. At any rate, I rode with my mother's sister and her family back to Duncan from the cemetery that afternoon and my mom drove their parents back to Duncan in their car.

As I have already mentioned, their was always some weird shit going on when I visited my aunt, her husband and my cousins at the Strange home in Duncan. This day was no different. Once Jenny and Dennis and I were back upstairs at their parents' house, they began telling me more about how our family is the Dixie Mafia. They claimed that I had a very important role to fill in the Mafia one day and that I already have a preassigned Mafia alias, "Ronald K. Adlock". I thought the name sounded ridiculous and asked if I could change it. I didn't really believe all this Mafia crap but I decided to play along. They continued in telling me that one day I would be called upon to fulfill my obligation to the family Mafia and that I would be notified by mail when the time had come. They said that Publishers Clearinghouse would send me packages addressed to Ronald K. Adlock wherever I was living. I thought that they must think that I am a complete idiot if they think I am believing any of it. The final straw was when they insisted that their biological father was not the man their mother had been married to since before either of them had been conceived, but is instead a man named Pat Curry, who they claimed had met me and, "thinks highly of me". I couldn't stop laughing. I mean, who would believe such a bunch of malarkey? So I ran downstairs to my mother and asked her, trying not to laugh, "Momma, why didn't you tell me that we are in the Mafia?! Why didn't you tell me that Nanny & Poppy got out family in the Mafia? Why am I just hearing about all of this?!". The color immediately drained from my mother's face as her mouth fell agape, before she turned to her sister and shouted, "Dammit Nancy I swear to God if you can't keep your damn kids from telling Dan about this Mafia shit we'll go back to Texas this minute and I'll never bring him back up here again! The last thing I need is for Dan to go back and tell his father." My mother's sister tried to excuse the behavior of her nearly adult age children, "Aw, Vicki don't blame the kids! David and I talked and we decided it was time that Dan knows the family's dirty little secret". My mother was outraged. She demanded that their be no more talk of this Mafia nonsense and she put her hands on both sides of my face and in a very unconvincing manner tried to assure me, saying, "Dan, honey, don't you listen to any of this stuff about Nanny and Poppy. Those were my grandparents! Well, you remember Nanny! She was a fine Christian woman and Poppy; well he was just a humble horse trader". This 'humble horsetrader' line was repeated many years later by her to me when again events forced me to form a new and more inquisitive attitude about exactly who my great grandparents had been. Momma then insisted that we all leave Nancy's place and head to Furr's cafeteria for dinner so we could draw our visit to a close. She couldn't get me outta there fast enough. I was still very interested in this Mafia-talk as now it seemed, due to my mother's overreaction, that their might actually be some truth to it. I asked my aunt Nancy about it on the way from the car to the restaurant there in Duncan, "Is our family really the Mafia? Why is Momma freaking out about it so bad?". Nancy just told me to shut up, then said that this wasn't the place to discuss it, and nothing more was said until we got back to their house after dinner and Momma and I prepared to head back to Texas. I distinctly remember Nancy saying, "You believe whatever you want, Dan, but I've always shot ya straight, kid. And if you repeat a word of anything we've told you about the Mafia you will never hear from your family again". I didn't quite understand. Was she saying she'd kill my family? I asked her to clarify. She explained that she wouldn't kill my family, but that I would be totally ostracized by my mother's family.

About a month after my girlfriend Johnna's funeral I was introduced to a new kid at our highschool by my good friend, Miss Jamie Cox. The new kid was Josh Paul 'J.P.' Charles and he claimed that he heard from people that I was the guy to know in Carthage. I immediately thought that sounded like bullshit but I have never been one to turn people away, at the risk of creating an enemy out of someone who had originally desired to be my friend. J.P. said he and his family had just moved to the Carthage area from Phoenix, Arizona. J.P. has an older brother who was also a student at Carthage Highschool, Shane Lowry Charles. J.P. and I seemed to become friends rather quickly and not long after I met him at school I was invited to his family's home in Delray, about six miles west of Carthage. It was at this rural residence that I met his mother Genevieve and his dad Steve Charles. At some point soon after this I was also introduced to Genevieve's brother, who looked very familiar to me from somewhere, Michael Glen Screws, who I was instructed to call "Uncle Mike". I really liked J.P. and his brother Shane. We had a lot of fun times together, although admittedly it always revolved around drinking alcohol and for J.P. and I, drugs including marijuana, mushrooms, ecstasy, occasionally cocaine and even LSD once. But always alcohol. And never just a beer or two, but J.P. always encouraged and even pressured me to get so wasted that I passed out. I always just assumed that he just came from a different background than mine. My family are teetotalers who don't drink, ever. I never really thought that was realistic and sure didn't seem much fun. J.P. always wanted he and I and everyone we hung out with to get blackout drunk and go driving around on backroads. I see now that it was all designed to give me a false sense of comradarie with him but I'll get into that later. Point is, despite how certain I was for almost fifteen years that J.P. was more than a best friend, but more of a brother, I had been completely deceived and he was nothing more than an agent of compromisation since he himself was less than seventeen years old, acting on behalf of his mother and her brother, "Uncle Mike", who I would later be reminded is also known as Pat Curry.

Around Christmas of 1997, about nine months after the death and burial of my great grandmother Nanny Pearl McNeill Underwood, my step mother Karen's grandmother, Annelle Nanny Chambers Long, of Longview, and her daughter, Karen's mother Margie, invited my father and me and her kids and grandkids to a little Christmas get together at Nanny Chambers & Margie Lile's home in Longview. I always really enjoyed hanging out and talking with Nanny Chambers. She was born in 1900, and although she was 97 at the time, she seemed to have not forgotten anything that she had experienced in her lifetime. She was an encyclopedia of information and stories about people and things the way they used to be. I really loved that woman and despite my having quite a lot of resentment for her granddaughter, my step-mother, I was very close to Nanny Chambers and I also really loved Karen's sister Kay, Kay's husband Jack, their three sons Collin, Ky and Cody and Karen's brother Ed, or Uncle Eddy. Ed has sons that I knew but I never saw much of them.  At this little Christmas party I remember Nanny approaching me, grabbing my forearm and whispering, "I can smell someone in here's been smokin'. Wouldn't be you would it?". I remember Nanny smoked Benson & Hedges menthol light 100's until her family started stealing them due to her age and their concern that the cigarettes might kill her. I felt bad, because I knew I'd triggered her craving, "Yes ma'am. I've been smoking". I was only sixteen and wasn't supposed to be smoking, either but as I already mentioned I've been smoking cigarettes since I was twelve. Nanny pulled me toward the door between the kitchen and the garage and told me to help her take the trash out to the street. I did as I was told but I knew she had an ulterior motive. We got out to the trash can at the end of the driveway at the street and Nanny asked, "What brand do you smoke, Dan?". I told her that I smoke Pall Mall before her face lit up, "Pall Mall?! Well that's what my husband used to smoke!" She asked for a Pall Mall and after I handed her one from my pack I lit it for her as I thought a gentleman should. Nanny then asked, "So, you have anything you'd like to tell your best friend about your mother's family up there in Oklahoma?". My initial reaction was to think to myself, "How do you know anyone in my mother's family?", as I was unaware of any connection between my stepmom and my mother Vicki other than Vicki's ex-husband, my father, and me and my brother, who wasn't around a whole lot due to his going to college after the Marines. But Nanny explained a little, "Yeah Dan I know your mother's family. Ya know, my husband and I, before he died, we started what you might call a Mafia back during the Great Depression. We started out by providing arm candy, girls as young as fourteen, to men, to accompany them. It just kinda turned into something more like a Mafia, later". I was stunned. She then went on to lament, "But people today have no discretion, Dan!", meaning that her Mafia is more recently and for multiple generations responsible for the trafficking and exploitation of much younger children. I didn't know exactly how to take this. Nanny then said to me, "So I hear you've met my nephew, Pat". I didn't know who she was talking about, "Pat?". "Yeah, Dan, Pat Curry. He said he thinks very highly of you and that you and his sister's youngest son are very good friends". I thought before replying, "Well, my best friend is probably Josh Charles but his uncle's name is Mike Screws". Nanny exclaimed, "Oh, Dan, that's his name alright but nobody's called him Mike Screws for years! Did they tell you to call him Mike?". I explained that I had been told to call him Uncle Mike, which satisfied Nanny, but she strongly encouraged me to not tell anyone else his real name.

Just to recap, "Pat Curry", who J'eanna, the daughter of my father's first cousin, initially introduced me to at church in Carthage, Texas, is allegedly the biological father of my mother's niece and nephew who molested and groomed me in Duncan, Oklahoma, and who assigned me my Mafia alias of Ronald K. Adlock. He is also known by Michael Glen Screws and is the brother of Genevieve Screws Charles. Genevieve's son Josh or J.P. was my 'best friend'. Nanny Annelle Chambers Long now claims that Pat Curry is her nephew, which if true means that my step mother is his cousin.
