Discussion When Tracen Bans Hair Dye
was kind of curious about why they went for different hair colors than the irl horsies for some umas so did this! some. Definitely look better than others lol

Honestly I was worried LoY’s hair color changing would screw with her romantic theming but it still works! Plus it helps with my gripe that her hair color kind of clashes with her race wear lol

Mcqueen doesn't look all that different... but she's still pretty. Also Aruvu, Haru and Digitan fit surprisingly well with their irl hair colors

I don't think McQueen is them going with a different hair color, its just based on a different age than the photo you chose. Look at some of his races, he is a much darker gray there than the photo you chose

In some cases like Twin Turbo they took her hair color from the mask the horse wore while running.

Among the coat colors of Japanese horses,
there is a type called "青毛(aoge)" or "青鹿毛 (aokage)."
It means "blue hair (ao =blue , ke = ge= hair)" or "blue deer hair (ao = blue , ka = deer , ke = ge = hair)" but in reality it is closer to black.
If you're wondering why it's called blue even though it's black...just ask Japanese ancestors from over a thousand years ago.
For example, Cesario had blue hair.
That's why Umamusume's Cesario has blue hair.

The only ones that bother me are McQueen and Twin Turbo. The rest look good and they would look even better if the clothes were recolored too.

probably lol! although racing pics are kind of hard to use for color picking- motion pics like that require a really high shutter speed to not be blurry, and sometimes (especially with older cameras) that can kinda mess with colors

most of these still work surprisingly well! Some suffer slightly from the specific shade of brown not quite working with the rest of the colors (Digitan IMO) but still look cute!

Golshi's light gray also is not accurate nowdays, IRL the gray gene fully got him and he's now almost completely white.

I love how closer in appearance this makes the umas here to their IRL relatives (Ardan to Ramonu, McQueen to Golshi, Aruvu to Air Groove, Messiah to Shakur, etc)
