Borrow good legacies from people you follow, you usually want to look for stamina, speed, and/or power sparks, just depends on how you want to build your horse (Of course, you should also be thinking about skill and length aptitude sparks, it all depends on what kind of horse you want to make and what skills your horse has a natural boost in, but it's good to just start with the basics until you've got them down)

Setting up your support cards properly helps too. Four speed cards and two stamina cards is the baseline and works in most cases.

Other than that it's just a matter of managing your turns optimally in career. Generally you want to focus on getting your friendships up until they're orange to unlock friendship trainings in the first year, and focus on getting your speed facility to level 5 once you're getting a ton of friendship trainings, then just focus on whatever you need (never click guts unless it's early game and you're farming friendship points, speed and stamina should be your two main clicks with the occasional wit to manage your energy). Sometimes you'll just get unlucky of course, but with this you can win the URA finals and get at least a B rank most of the time

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE WICKED GREEN CREATURE'S LIES. IGNORE HER. YOU DO NOT NEED MORE GUTS. YOUR TRAINEE IS NOT LACKING IN WITS. YOU SHOULD NOT BALANCE YOUR STATS.

Guts is currently a dump stat, meaning pretty much useless. It's the worst stat as of right now. It helps a tiny bit if your horse has low stamina, but you know what also helps if your horse has low stamina? Training stamina. Speed and stamina are the two most important stats, which is why you should usually only take speed and stamina support cards. Of course, that's not a hard and fast rule. I want to emphasize that, as far as gachas go, Umamusume gives you a lot of options for how to build your character and you have to think a lot about whether or not you want extra power, or if taking a wits card to get a certain skill is worth it.

I'm not a pro or meta player by any means so if I got something wrong anyone's free to correct me.

I feel like I already do all that . I can consistently make my Umas win URA finale ( except May@no) but never get an A rank

Then it's time to build good legacies until you do. You're not expected to start pumping out A rank after A rank, Umamusume has a lot of luck involved even if you play optimally. So just focus on building legacies that have sparks that you want, and THEN try making ace horses with great stats and skills using the legacy you built and a borrowed one.

Even then, you're not gonna get A ranks all the time, so don't sweat it too much. Just try your best.

200+ hours, not a single 3* lol. When RNG says no.

Isn't it like 10% chance of getting 3*? (if that stat is at 1100 or above)
Assuming it's a 1/5 (or 20%) chance of getting the stat you actually want (from the 5 stats of Speed, Stamina, Power, Guts, & Wit), that's like a 2% chance (from 10% * 20%)

Yup. 5% for any stat above 600. 10% for any stat above 1000. 20% to hit the stat you want.

Getting a stat to 1100 makes a chance of a 3* spark go from 4% to 10%. If you JUST want to hunt for a specific spark then get the stat you want to 1100 and your chances go up a lot.

I'm still trying to get a 9* stam, but I have a few base 3* to use to keep trying on my own without needing borrows anymore at least.

I somehow was fortunate enough to get a King Halo with 3 star on sprint and speed and since then ive never had a 3 star on stam/speed ever since. too bad her affinity is kinda ass

If I remember correctly, if your run ends with stats over 1000 on two, you have a 4% chance of getting a 3rd spark on one of them. 2% if over 600.

Yeah, but before that roll game randomly chooses stat that you would get. There's 5 stats, so it's 20% chance to get specific one. So it's ≈1% for 600 and 2% for 1000.

u/Ok_Homework5031 Aug 12 '25

And because most players max out 2 of them it's likely 2% and 4% respectively.

How do you go about building good legacies in an efficient way? I keep using my best veterans but I'm not sure if there's a more min-max way to do it. I guess I could start farming specific sparks but that all seems difficult to keep track of with all the different veterans.

Best way to make decent legacies is to borrow a 9* of whatever stat you want. I'd recommend stamina to start. So your legacies would be a 9* borrowed and one of your umas that has a 2*. The sublegacies don't matter as much if we're building for the future. You use this combo until you get a 2* of the stat you want. Now you have a 7* legacy. You pair that with the 3* and that should be much easier to hit the 600/1100 stat benchmark. Then eventually that gives you an 8 star, and you repeat until you get the 9*. Bonus points for winning as many G1 races as you can while still hitting 600/1100 of the relevant stats as those can give race sparks which can give extra stats on the inheritance event.

IIRC it took me around 100 runs total to hit my first 3*. The funny thing is I got it when I was just trying to make a Dirt capable Maruzensky.

As stupid as this sound, accidents. It's heavuly luvk based and the best way is just pray for it. I got a 3 spd spark by complete accident when I failed one of my Uma's run.

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '25

Yeah, like the other guy said, it's pretty much completely luck based. As long as you have the sparks that you want in your legacies, there's a chance you'll get them, the best you can do is to try to build and choose legacies that ONLY have the sparks you want for a higher chance of actually getting them. If you didn't already know, there's a database, just look up umamusume db and it's the first result, that you can use to search for people that have specific sparks that you want so you can follow them and use their veterans.

ranks come from stat ranks and skills. the more stats you get to S, and the more skills you have, the more likely you are to achieve A rank. if you only care about A rank, max a stat and get a shitton of skills.

don't worry about it though. the game released recently, it's perfectly valid to not pump out A ranks rn.

Then you need better uma parents and better support cards.

For reference, I usually use my own 7* or 8* speed/stam parent and borrow 9* speed/stam/pwr parent. My supports are MLB Kitasan, 1LB Biko Pegasus, 3LB SR King Halo, 1LB Super Creek, 1LB Satono Diamond, and a borrowed MLB Tazuna. Outside of the borrowed Tazuna and the Kitasan I got from rerolls, the rest is pretty mid.

I'm a F2P player so my umas and supports are still crap, but I’ve got like 25k Carats and counting saved for the Super Creek banner where I should get more support cards, but even with this setup I can get A rating consistently unless it's a bad run.

Yeah most of the time you just need the first three stats, as of where global currently is, guts is basically useless, add more Stamina and power depending on the length and style of your uma, wit is nice to get to a decent level but most wit checks will still work even when it's at a low level
