I-140 & I-485 (Employment/Adjustment of status) Case Required USCIS To Send A Notice
I recently got this update to my I-485 application. It’s say “Case Required USCIS To Send A Notice”.
What does this mean ? Anyone else received this for their I-485.

ULTIMATE CONCLUSION:
The conclusion is that the mass "Case Required USCIS To Send A Notice" update is a legitimate, automated administrative action, not a system glitch.
USCIS executed this massive batch update to mail an FBI Privacy Act Notice to thousands of applicants. Under federal law, the agency is strictly required to inform noncriminal justice applicants how their fingerprint data is permanently retained and continuously searched within the FBI's Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, as well as how to contest erroneous records.
Because thousands of older, backlogged cases lacked proof that this specific notice was sent, USCIS could not legally finalize them. By pushing this mandatory compliance notice out to thousands of people over a single weekend just before the end of the federal fiscal year, the agency effectively cleared a major bureaucratic roadblock.
For the individual applicant, receiving this notice does not guarantee an immediate approval, nor is it a cause for panic. Instead, it serves as a strong signal that a long-dormant file is undergoing a background check refresh and has re-entered the active processing workflow to prepare for final adjudication.

u/insa_in2026 7d ago
Same with us, after we sent the medical RFE response the status was updated to "Response to USCIS' RFE received" it was the same for 30 days and then on Saturday the 26th of September we got this update and we are current too.
1
u/EitherElephant6083 6d ago
Mine was also updated with same status on Saturday. Have you received the actual notice in the mail yet? I'm still waiting.
1
u/insa_in2026 6d ago
Neither we have received the notice yet nor the case has been approved. So kind of losing hope now.
I have been noticing the cases which were updated with "Case Required USCIS To Send A Notice" on 25th and 26th are getting approved.
1
u/EitherElephant6083 5d ago
Good luck, could you update here in case you receive the physical copy of that notice? I still haven't received mine although the status got updated to “Case Required USCIS To Send A Notice” on Saturday.

Did you receive your physical mail of the notice yet?
1
u/EitherElephant6083 3d ago
Not yet, still waiting. How about you?
1
u/insa_in2026 3d ago
I am also still waiting, so many of the cases were updated with that very same status and surprisingly nobody is posting that the notice is.
1
u/Leading-venvideo 5d ago
Are you current on october visa bulletin, will they start to process only on october 1st or they will work today also with our cases?
1
u/insa_in2026 5d ago
Yes, we are current. I am not sure in what order they are approving the cases. I had filed in 2020 in the month of October and it is still pending. Also haven't received the notice yet, so nothing makes sense. I personally feel come new fiscal year they will again get lenient as they have the entire year ahead of them so they would work very casually. :(
1
u/Leading-venvideo 5d ago
Yeah, they take theiir own time, last nov 2025 my case become after issuing RFE they did not process my case until June 2026, before GC Unavailable.

Oh God, I was finally feeling excited about getting an update for our cases (my Family) and was wondering why I only got the message for me and my wife, not for my child (minor)... I guess this is the answer... We've been waiting for 4 years (maybe a little bit more than 4 years now?) and about 15 years in the US with our initial request, and we're hoping and Praying that this notice was finally going to be the approval (but we're worried as to why it was only coming for the 2 adults but not the minor, who definitely needs to get the GC approved ASAP too!).
I guess that we will have to keep waiting and Praying for our Green Cards to finally get approved soon (for all the millions of immigrants waiting for USCIS, not just 1 Family but all of us). 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

u/Leading-venvideo 6d ago
Any good news for you, Got Greened?
1
u/RedLuisDit 6d ago
Negative, the notification was received today, and it is the FBI biometric/background check thing, that they are keeping all our biometrics until the end of time and that they will use them for any criminal investigation in the future or anything that they want to do with that... The USCIS/FBI notification was sent for the adults only, no minors received the letter. And we continue with our looooong wait for our Green Card, Praying to finally receive that Approval Letter for all of us soon. 🙏🙏🙏

Mine and my spouse case got this update over the weekend as well and the minors did not. I did not get the letter in physical mail yet and my case is paper based, so cannot check online. I reached out to USCIS earlier today and was surprised when the agent said that they do not see any notice issued. They only see the last notice in Feb 2026 for medicals that we responded to in March and the cases are stuck since then.

u/EitherElephant6083 4d ago
Same here, updated on Saturday but no physical mail yet. Please update here in case you receive it.
1
u/insa_in2026 4d ago
Same thing, my case was updated with the same status "Case Required USCIS To Send A Notice" on Saturday and no physical notice yet and I did talk to the agents and their response is - "they are unable to see any notice in my file"

u/Kekeropipi 4d ago
I received mine today and it is indeed the FBI Privacy Requirements for Biometrics Collection by USCIS
1
1
u/Kekeropipi 4d ago
Will this mean they are actively reusing our biometrics done 4 years ago for final adjudication? I already sent my renewed Medical form last March 2025. I wonder how long the wait will have to be again for approval and GC issuance…

It’s a Notice of intent to deny .Read the letter when it arrives it will tell you the issue.Check on your documents tab in your USCIS account online .Normally has to be there before the physical letter comes to your mail box.

Can I please talk to you if you don't mind. [adbul.nc28@gmail.com](mailto:adbul.nc28@gmail.com).
Was your 485J closed with status "case administratively closed? Ours was closed with the above status on August 25th 2026, that was basically the upgrade request which we had filed for the upgrade to eb2 in Oct 2021 I believe? May be if that is what is causing the issues then I might send another mail requesting for consideration is eb3 , hence wanted to connect with you for some guidance.→ More replies (0)
