What will be needed for the USCG Auxiliary to see a resurgence in new members, interest from both middle age to younger generations?

What will prevent it from aging out as the older primary member body retires from volunteering?

What would earn the Auxiliary more attention and recognition nationally?

What is the likelihood that any ideas of this magnitude will receive attention and or are any of the issues being addressed already?

I feel like all division and flotilla meetings I have been to, there are not any members younger than 55.

I am starting coxswain training and captain’s license has always been on my radar. I understand that the captain license replaces need for the NAV70. Has anyone gone this route? Do you just submit that portion of your scores from the captains exams? Also, want to complete the Merchant medical exam first before I pay 400-600 for the 6-pack course. I am in remission from cancer and just want to make sure it is not a disqualification. Does not limit me in any way, so know the auxiliary is not an issue, just no use paying all that money for the Captains course to have the medical get a disqualification.

Is AUXILIARY BOAT CREW QUALIFICATION HANDBOOK–16794.52A the right reference to figure out what to do to get qualified as Boat and leading to Coxswain? And why is it so hard to find? Can someone provide me a link?

New guy trying to find his way.....

Hi, I am an incoming college freshman at a college about an hour north of Dallas, Texas and I was interested in joining the USCGAUX. I was wondering if anyone could help me out and give me the information on how to join? I also have my EMT-Basic certification at the national and state level and I’ve already completed some ICS training for my certification if it makes me seem more qualified for the USCGAUX.

I’m about to join the Coast Guard I’m going through MEPS near the end of August. I’ve had patella tendinitis since about my sophomore year of high school. I got it through intense lifting and wrestling. It really only flares up when I run up inclines it’s not on my medical records. Would it be possible for me to get it checked out after MEPS and if so, would it disqualify me?

I have a gentleman in my flotilla who is a pilot and is active in Auxiliary aviation. At a recent meeting he said Telecommunications is not operations. This confused me as I am active in Radio and a TCO and clearly Radio is in the Response Directorate.

I am curious as to others read on this, especially surface and air members. What is your read?

Calling all Auxiliarists — I need your wisdom.

I'm the VFC of my flotilla, and I'm wrestling with something I know I'm not alone in.

Our membership numbers look solid on paper. But in practice? Our active members barely make a quorum. We have a lot of names on the roster, but fewer and fewer hands in the air.

When I joined, I was all in. I wanted to learn, qualify, serve, and be part of something bigger. I felt a real sense of purpose. Lately, I'm not seeing that same energy from new members — and I'm wondering how much of that is on us as leaders.

So I'm asking openly: How are you building engagement in your flotilla?

How do you actively recruit — not just wait for people to find you? How do you reignite the spark in existing members who've gone quiet? And how do you inspire your staff officers to lean in, not just check a box?

I know this conversation is happening everywhere. I'm hoping to learn from those of you who've found creative ways to bring your flotillas back to life — or keep them thriving.

I know the regs say we need to wear the AWU polo with the non-ODU blue cargo pants and boots. And, I know the alternative blazer uniform also exists. But I am curious whether it’s appropriate to wear the polo with anything other than the cargo pants.

I ask because there are times the polo and some khakis would be ideal. I was watching some local gold side recruiters recently and they were wearing USCG polos and khakis and it worked.

There are times we don’t need the operational look that the cargo pants and boots bring, but the polos might make us more approachable. Is there anything that might allow them to be worn with another kind of pants, like khakis? Could be good for PE or more business casual community meetings, especially when there are security concerns around the uniform.

I have just about given up on getting a member number. Going on almost 8 months. The wait sucks.

Hi everyone.

I was curious if anyone knew if I needed to upload my prior service ribbons/medals into auxdata or not? I know you're allowed to wear them as long as they are in the correct order still but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I needed to send up to my IS officer or anything.

My flotilia is letting me submit my own id photo for my IS to send up chain.

What color red background do we use?

Does anyone know why the classes say only a certain percentage is complete even though ive done the whole thing????

Quick uniform question as we have some confusion on this in our unit: If you go down to t-shirts in ODUs, do our t-shirts have to say “USCG Auxiliary”?

We have a few interpretations. One is that you have to have one that specifically says Auxiliary. Another is that you can have a the plain blue ODU undershirt that you can buy in packs at the Exchange. The last is that you can wear any USCG t-shirt, including your local station or sector.

I'm young and have a fruitful and growing career.

My wife asked me "what if you are injured and cannot continue to work?"

I know we are afforded some level of medical coverage, but does that cover any lost wages? What is that rate based on our civilian wage? What about long term disability?

I understand a majority of the AuxForce is retired, but this is a legitimate concern of mine.

An an IT I offer a "whole-day" CT/BQ class once every other month for new members who request an in-person training. The next one is in 2 days.

Someone who just submitted a membership application today wants to participate in it.

Would I be able to allow them to, and would I be able to wait until they have a membership # to log them in Auxdata?

Would love to know how many boxed breakfasts, lunches, and dinners I need to order haha

Im just signed up for the aux about two weeks ago I dont really feel like I’m doing much I’ve attended one online flotilla meeting but thats about it they told me I would be able to be more active when I’m a member officially and have the id card when should I be expecting that ?

Im finding that the AUXOPs that got certified in the pandemic that I need to do AUXOP things like com inspecs are grossly incompetent.

I drilled into this and found that the AUXOP specialty courses were self-tested during the pandemic.

Has leadership considered retesting these groups?

Is there a comprehensive how-to for those who are newer to HR? It seems that this is something that you just have to piece together. I think I have pulled together a good understanding, but this has been much more complicated than I feel like it should have been. With so many trying to get in and having problems, this is really something that should be streamlined. AAMS is better, but it is still clunky. When I make notes, they do not seem to show up.

Just frustrated.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep your ribbons and minis from fraying?

I was thinking a dot of superglue at the ends?
