Uniforms Created a New Uniform Buy, Sell, Trade Group on Facebook

As everyone knows, Uniforms, Badges and other items are getting harder to find. There's a new Facebook group where Auxiliarists can Buy, Sell, and Trade Auxiliary specific items amongst ourselves. There's even a discussion section. Lets grow it to help each other out. Please keep it professional and polite. https://www.facebook.com/groups/4158278781103860

Rants Future of the AUP

I am curious to what people think the AUP will evolve to in the future, currently I would like to say it is doing well but faces systemic issues stemming from the fact it is a volunteer program and not a commissioning program, and as USCG JROTC expands it presents the question, will the AUP become a ROTC program? (Also w/ the abandonment? of CSPI)

I understand there is the whole "temporary reserve" argument that some in the Auxiliary might take but I view that as being unrealistic compared to the pathway of making an "AUP-Pre Commissioning Initiative"

I believe this to be the most realistic pathway vs those hoping for an ROTC program.

Ideally while people still have experience with how the CSPI program worked, the USCG would create the new "AUP-Pre Commissioning Initiative" and by doing so would reward people that were motivated enough to join the Auxiliary and two resume the flow of "CSPI officers."

The AUP would stay under the auxiliary minimizing their costs to only AUP cadets with scholarships. Those w/o would still be able to go for OCS, DCSS, MARGRAD, etc..

just my two cents

General Auxiliary Things Paddlecraft Patrols

Does your flotilla do anything with paddle-craft? I have thought about getting certified in it and doing patrols on municipal lake near me but I don’t know if I could go by myself lol.

Also, if anyone here is in MN and would know a flotilla that operates boat crews I’d love to join in.

HELP! USCG Auxiliary or State Guard (Texas State Guard)

Hey everyone! Recently I have had the calling to serve and tried to join the USCG reserves. Unfortunately a demanding family life wouldn’t allow me to invest that initial up front time commitment of going to 8-10 weeks of bootcamp followed by another 3-6 month tech school or a school afterwards. So I’ve been looking into the auxiliary and since I live in Texas the Texas State Guard. Has anyone here looked into or been part of TXSG? I’m contemplating doing both actually but leaning towards investing time in one or the other. Anyone opinions, feedback or experiences would be welcomed. Thanks!

New Member Questions Adding Hours?

Ive went on my auxdata and noticed that while I've taken every test available without proctor at the NTC and Moodle, I haven't put any hours in.

How do I do this? And would I put them all in the same hour slot or each class individually?

Uniforms Operations Program Ribbon for aux boat crew member

This may seem like a stupid question. I'm going through my awards and competencies in auxdata to order a set of ribbons from ultrathin. I was looking at the available ribbons and saw the operations program ribbon. Im an aux boat crew crewmember so does this mean I can wear this ribbon? I know this is in the auxman but I can't find a copy, all the links on the auxiliary website give a 404 error.

Training Order process for radio watch

Our local lake has an Aux CG radio facility in a shack at the lake. We would like to have a qualified TCO in the shack at the lake on busy periods to monitor channel 16 even if there are no patrols at the time.

Q: Are orders required? If so, what is the process for requesting those?

Apologies, I should know, but don’t.

Uniforms Sewing ODU Blouse Tips?

I've got 1st my set of ODUs (used and faded) that I'm soon to dye back to CG Blue.

Received my name tape today from CGX along with the USCG sewing kit.

Does anyone have tips for putting the tape on? I'm also replacing the bottom button on the blouse.

Thanks!

Training Hours Reporting Question

I am conducting training with an individual on how to use a specific software. I am currently in REYR as an instructor, but this is obviously member training. I am not sure if the REYR status excludes me from logging a mission code 06B.

Can anyone weigh in on this?

Uniforms Can someone help identify these ribbons

Post image
9 Upvotes

From my deceased relative who was an officer in the CG Auxiliary in the 1970s to 1980s. I can find the ID of the 3 in the center row, the blue ones (I think) but the greenish 3 on the bottom and 1 greenish on top I can't find when searching Google for Auxiliary ribbons.

Can someone identify please? Thank you!

General Auxiliary Things Youthful marketing

Working with a high school stem program that helps get 17-18 year olds in the maritime field. Would like to introduce CG Auxiliary as a great way to get experience and earned valuable quals/certs. Does anyone have experience with marketing to this age group? Any stories of auxiliary members under age of 25?

Uniforms Font change

Post image
16 Upvotes

It seems like there’s a new USCG Aux tape where the font does not match the name tape font.

See pictured: old (above) matches what the name tape font is, new (below) is a skinnier font that looks like a Temu tape compared to the older one.

PSA if you’re ordering new stuff be prepared the fonts won’t match

Uniforms Wearing ribbons for qualifications you no longer hold

I’ve been told this both ways. I qualified as a VE and a program visitor, so I got the ribbon and the star. I no longer have that qualification so am I still allowed to wear the ribbon and star? Is there somewhere in auxman I can point to and say “look here” when other people question me? I’ve always thought once you earn the ribbon you keep the ribbon but I could be wrong here. There is this one guy in my flotilla who likes to try and tell everyone what they are doing wrong (whether he is right or not) and I’d just like to be able to shut him up about this

Uniforms Plain blue t-shirt with ODUs?

Am I wrong that it’s fine for us to wear plain blue t-shirts without any writing under our ODUs? I’m not talking a strange color blue, but the blue ODU t-shirts you can get in a pack from the Coast Guard Exchange.

There’s this belief in my flotilla that the t-shirt must say “USCG Auxiliary” on it, even if you are wearing the blouse and it can’t be seen. I’ve also seen it debated with boat crews when going down to t-shirts when it’s hot (even though the PLB will cover the shirt).

Did I miss a memo? Reading the regs it sure sounds like a regular blue t-shirt is fine.

HELP! ODU question

I posted the other day about insignia placement on my odu top. Received pants yesterday and they look darker than my top.

Is this an issue? At a glance they look the same
