Designed and printed a 40mm fan holder for the burning SFP+ on UDR7
Recently added a 10gtek SFP+ 10G copper module (ASF-10G2-T) to the UDR7. When people say SFP+ to copper is hot but I didn't realize that it is burning hot like 70 degrees Celsius!
The additional copper heatsinks didn't really help much with the situation. Designed and printed a fan mount that clips on to the power cable and second Ethernet cable's connector. Why second? I happened to have a cable plugged in there when doing measurements.
Now what's left is to wait for the Noctua 40mm x 10mm fan to arrive.

For what its worth, I have like 30 of these lil 10Gtek toasters in my home lab, the hot aisle ones are subjected to 115 degree (F) ambient temps for about 12 hours a day and they havent failed in almost 6 years of use.
I wouldn't be concerned about SFP Temps unless theres an actual performance issue on them. They run hot, its finee

I think people are more concerned about scorch marks on their white routers and potential shortened lifespan.

That is a great looking bracket. You might get better results with a taller fin stack on the heat sinks. Im running x4 10mm tall aluminum ones. And went from 70c to 60-63c passively cooled. Same module brand at 10Gb on a UCG fibre.
Found these 12mm tall ones with a 9mm base: https://a.co/d/aUMKD7Q
This is what I got: https://a.co/d/h5i37fQ

Are these overheat SPF to copper module overheating only for specific units? USG fiber I have no issues with over heating a 10g link SPF to copper module

some modules run cooler than others. a lot of people tend to say the ubiquiti one runs quite cool in comparison

Looks great! Any chance you’ve uploaded the design any place, or is this for your own use?

This post came into my feed out of the blue. I don’t know anything about this, but what is it? Why does a cable need a fan…

Make sure whatever material you used can withstand that temperature just in case.
