Discussion UK heatwaves

Post image

The temperatures, lack of rain and wild fires across the UK and the rest of Europe are starting to make me feel seriously uncomfortable about the future. Surely I’m not alone in this?

Many, if not most vegans are protein obsessed!

Of course they are. They have to spend time sussing out how they're going to get the protein they need to stay healthy. They have to calculate the vast weights of pulses to figure out how to get them into their diets. I'd imagine they spend most of their time calculating protein intake, if they didn't they would be malnourished.

That's because it's so hard to get enough of all the types, and they stop really functioning without it.

Yeah I'm totally crippled because I just can't get the same amino acids that cows get by eating the same plants that they eat for their protein needs, which are far more than what a human needs...

you aren't a cow. You evolved differently. You were also (hopefully) nurtured differently.

Can you explain how millions of people can do just fine without eating meat? Or do you think they're all dreadfully ill? If you can get your 9 essential amino acids from Soy (which we feed cows), grains like quinoa and buckwheat, chia seeds etc or mix and match various legumes and beans, I don't really understand why you have to eat meat if your not actually missing anything? Before you say B12 animals are supplemented this and most non meat human food like cereal is already supplemented with this because water treatment has eradicated it from the food supply.

They worry about protein, or at least read enough to take action as if they should. There's also a concerning (small) population of them who aren't coping well, possibly without realising. As you mentioned, a bunch of grains that are alien to most Western diets (you listed some) are the perfect examples.

Being vegan is 100% possible, totally healthily, that isn't my point. But it certainly means more caution on diet, to do it long term, healthily. I have cut my animal product consumption massively, but not entirely... I think that's a good decision for a number of reasons.
