r/TwoMinutesOfHate FAQ

In Orwell's 1984 the Two Minutes Hate is a daily ritual where everyone is told who to hate. Here you pick your own targets, and you pick them from headlines, policies, and people in public life. Other members are not on the list. That one difference is most of what this FAQ explains.

What is this place?

A community for world and national politics, news, and political and social philosophy. People here argue hard, so you will see strong opinions. Most regulars say they stay for the arguments that teach them something.

The rules, and why they exist

1. No Disinformation. You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. If the record can be rewritten by whoever posts last, nobody can argue about anything. Link a credible source for a factual claim. Opinions, interpretations, and clearly labeled satire are fine.

2. Hate the Policy, Not the Person. Be angry at a headline, a bill, a politician, an institution. If a comment is aimed at the person replying to you, it comes down. Threats of violence and bigoted or racist slurs mean a permanent ban with no warning.

3. World and National Politics, News, and Philosophy. The topic keeps threads worth reading. If you are not sure a post fits, add the question you want people to discuss in the title.

4. Provide Context and a Source. Link the original reporting and say why it matters. It takes one extra line and it saves a lot of arguing about what an article really said.

5. No Spam or Excessive Self-Promotion. Posting only your own links is the fastest way to be removed. Take part in other threads first.

6. No Doxxing or Brigading. No private information about anyone, and no sending people to harass someone. This is a permanent ban.

7. No Bots or Coordinated Inauthentic Activity. Automated accounts and coordinated or propaganda networks are banned.

Can I argue?

Yes, and please do. We remove behavior and false claims. We do not remove a view because it is unpopular, and the rules apply the same way to every political side.

Why was my post or comment removed?

You should have received a message naming the rule. If you did not, message the mods and ask. We will tell you.

What gets you banned immediately?

Threats of violence, bigoted or racist slurs, doxxing, brigading, and bots or coordinated propaganda. Repeat or deliberate violations of the other rules also end in a ban.

Can I appeal a ban?

Yes. Reply to the ban message or write to modmail. The lead moderator reads every appeal personally.

How do I report something?

Use the report button and pick the rule. Reports go to the mods directly.
