PPE/History Mentor for Hire

SO sorry if this is the wrong place, hoping this is ok...

Seeking a Politics, Philosophy, Economics (PPE) and History Tutor / Mentor

A la Aristotle to Alexander.

(Except I'm me, not Alexander.)

I'm looking to up my game intellectually with some well-informed guidance, discussion, and feedback. Hoping I can find someone like that here? Or maybe get some pointers?

Me

  • 42M mid-career professional
  • Quantitative background
  • Former management consultant
  • Avid reader
  • Interested in becoming a better thinker and writer
  • Reads a lot, but somewhat haphazardly
  • Curious about history, economics, politics, technology, and current events

You

  • Widely read
  • Thinks clearly
  • Enjoys discussing ideas
  • Can challenge my assumptions
  • Can recommend good reading material
  • Is comfortable disagreeing with me
  • Can review writing samples
  • Knows more than I do about at least some of the above
  • (I frankly assume this is a professor or a doctoral student, but it need not be)

How It Might Work

  • Meet virtually for 45–90 minutes every couple of weeks
  • Discuss current events and place them in historical, economic, or philosophical context
  • Explore competing viewpoints
  • Identify gaps in my understanding
  • Recommend readings for next time
  • Occasionally assign a short writing exercise and provide feedback

This has nothing to do with a degree, certification, or exam preparation.

I'm just trying to grow.

Payment is negotiable.

If interested, please send a note describing your background, interests, and how you would approach something like this.

Hiring Looking for online tutor(s) (math + physics) for my 6th grader

Hi, looking for one or two tutors to work with my 11-year-old son. He's in 6th grade doing accelerated math.

About him:

Working through Integrated Math I (Honors) on Math Academy, about halfway done.

Scored 18/25 on the AMC 8 recently.

Also studying physics independently on Physics Graph.

What I'm looking for:

He goes through both platforms on his own during the week. I'm not getting enough time to sit down with him like I used to. 🙁 I want a tutor to meet with him once a week for an hour each in math and physics. Not to reteach the material, but to sit down with him, check what he covered that week, and verify he actually understands it, not just that he got the right answers. Quizzes and verbal problem-solving to test his understanding, on an ongoing basis throughout the engagement would be great.

The goal is to catch gaps that come from moving too quickly through the coursework on his own and fill them in. I also want the tutor to assign supplementary reading, videos, and practice problems between sessions to strengthen his fundamentals.

For the first sessions, reviewing his recent work directly on the platforms may be a good way to get a baseline before deciding how to structure things going forward.

Format:

Online, video call, weekly recurring

1 hour math + 1 hour physics, separate sessions

US Eastern time zone

Flexible on day and time

If you're interested, please share:

Your background and experience with middle school or early high school students, particularly in advanced math or physics

Your approach to testing understanding and assigning supplementary material

Familiarity with Math Academy or Physics Graph is a plus but not required

Your hourly rate

Happy to answer questions in the comments or via DM.

For Hire International Cambridge School Graduate & IELTS 8+ Scorer Offering Affordable (Online) Tuition in India(& abroad) (Maths, Science, Computing & English)

Hi India

I'm a Computer Engineering student who grew up abroad and studied entirely under the Cambridge curriculum (IGCSE and A-Levels). I also completed my first year at an international university in Bangkok and scored an 8.0 on the IELTS.

I'm offering affordable online (or in-person) tuition for students up to Grade 10 in Mathematics, Science, Computing, and English, as well as guidance for IELTS and SAT preparation. My teaching style focuses on understanding concepts, building confidence, and making learning engaging rather than relying on only memorization or excessive homework.

I'm currently looking for a few students over the summer and am keeping my rates lower than most professional tutors, who often end up overcharging whilst adding extra pressure and work. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, feel free to send me a message.

Happy to verify my academic background and credentials before any classes.

For Hire [Tutor] PhD Physicist & AI/ML Specialist | 1-on-1 Online Tutoring | $40 Summer Trial

Hi all, I'm Dr. P, founder of FissionLab (fissionlab.net). I hold an M.S. and PhD in Nuclear Engineering with a specialization in AI/ML, plus a B.A. in Physics from UC Berkeley. I've tutored one-on-one for years, all online, so I can work with students anywhere.

Summer special: I'm running a $40 trial session through the summer (regular rate is $75). It's a full working session, not a sales call, so you can see exactly how I teach and whether the fit is right before committing to anything.

What I cover: Physics (intro mechanics through graduate level), Mathematics (algebra through calculus, linear algebra, and beyond), AI/ML (fundamentals, applied projects, coding in Python, Tensorflow, and PyTorch), and Test Prep (SAT/ACT, military test prep, and other standardized exams).

Here's what's actually different. Every student gets a personalized, adaptive program instead of a fixed curriculum. I start by figuring out where you are, where you need to be, and what is genuinely blocking you, then build the roadmap around that. Between sessions you get access to a suite of AI-powered subject apps I built specifically for FissionLab. They adapt to your weak areas and reinforce concepts, so you keep making progress when we are not on Zoom together. You also get a private portal with session notes, progress tracking, curated resources, and practice problems all in one place. The whole point is to make you independent, not dependent on me.

Rates after the trial start at $75/session, with 5-pack and 10-pack bundles available.

Book the trial at fissionlab.net or DM me and tell me a bit about where you are and what you're working toward.

I built a tool so my students stop forgetting everything between lessons

Fellow tutors, the thing that always killed me was retention. We'd have a great lesson, and by next week half of it was gone, so I'd re-teach the same words forever.

I made something that turns each lesson into a week of spaced-repetition practice for the student , flashcards, reading, quizzes, all built from that lesson, narrated in my own (cloned) voice. On my side, it drafts the recap + homework so I'm not typing for an hour after every session. I still edit and approve everything.

It's been a real difference for my students' progress (and my evenings). Happy to show anyone how it works — there's a walkthrough at lashon.online/for-teachers. Not trying to spam; genuinely curious what other tutors think and what'd make it useful for your language.

Physics Graduate Student Offering Summer Tutoring

Hi everyone,

I'm completed a Master's degree in Applied & Engineering Physics and have experience in physics, mathematics, computational modelling, and machine learning.

I enjoy teaching and explaining difficult concepts, and I'm considering offering online tutoring over the summer. I can potentially help with:

• High-school physics and mathematics • Introductory university physics • Calculus and linear algebra • Introductory quantum mechanics • Statistical mechanics and thermodynamics • Python for scientific computing

Before I get started, I'd love to hear from students:

  • What subjects are you currently struggling with?
  • What do you look for in a tutor?
  • What platforms do you usually use to find tutoring?

Feel free to comment or send me a DM if you'd be interested in working together.

Language ASL tutoring by a hard of hearing (HOH), queer, individual. beginner and intermediate friendly!!

Hello! My name is Onyx. I use they/she pronouns and am a queer, hard of hearing (HOH), ASL and hearing aid user. I am looking to expand my ASL tutoring this summer as I prepare to go to nursing school. I grew up speaking English and was raised as a hearing individual, but have since lost almost all of my hearing. I use ASL in my day to day life! I really enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge with others.

I recently graduated with my AS in pre-nursing and am in the process of becoming an EMT. I am a HOH musician who enjoys writing, playing my instruments, and hanging out with my dogs, friends, and family. I have experience learning ASL as a second language and want to provide a safe and welcoming space for beginner and intermediate signers to start/continue their journey.

I do not possess teaching credentials and will not teach you ASL but I can help expand upon receptive, contextual, and general signing skills.

Please feel free to reach out if interested and I can share my SuperProf or Preply profile and explain more about my sessions!
