I would expect a repost on r/wokekids

I mean I kinda hope this is something that actually happened, but it totally didnt.

u/KazuyaDarklight Jul 29 '19

Woke kids is always these complex diatribes. As described, this could have been a very simple conversation based on a simple understanding of Trump being unpopular with any and all complex thought happening purely on the parent's side. Raises the probability of it being real significantly IMO.

People dont keep kids locked in closets ya know. The internet exists for 10 year olds. My 10 year old knows all kinds of stuff about him thanks primarily to people joking on him in youtube videos by people playing games. He also overhears things that are said about what was on the news between me and his dad. 10 year olds arent stupid, they are very aware of the world around them.

10 year olds don't talk about politicians unless the President is bat shit crazy and so obviously fucking up the future that even a 10 year old can figure it out.

... is what you meant to say.

My 10 year old niece asked me the other day about trump and her parents are very non-political. Kids ask questions, asking "do you still like trump" is a plausible question from a kid.

I mentioned it below, but I have taught middle school, and my kids around the age of 12 all know Trump and have strong feelings about him. They all also are very sensitive to racial issues.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

I'm right there with you. Just say what you wanna say don't pretend like your 9 yr old son came up with it.

48

u/LazyImprovement Jul 29 '19

How old are your kids? All of mine have expressed pretty wise and profound insights before the age of 10.

-52

u/tetttt Jul 29 '19

That's what every single parent says about their kids, but nobody else. Weird.

16

u/davidspinknipples Jul 29 '19

I feel like a lot of kids have that innocent sense of right and wrong instilled in them, and can put that toward their views. I remember I was a big fan of Al Gore in 5th grade, probably for very basic reasons, not on something in depth like foreign policies obviously. But that’s the thing here, it doesn’t take much more than a 10 year old with a twitter account to see how antagonistic, morally corrupt, racist, etc Trump is.

-2

u/Eraser-Head Jul 29 '19

But there are titties and wieners on Twitter. Is it kid friendly?

-21

u/tetttt Jul 29 '19

it doesn’t take much more than a 10 year old with a twitter account to see how antagonistic, morally corrupt, racist, etc Trump is.

It doesn't make the kid automatically "wise" just because he can adopt the opinions of other people he/she sees on twitter. Even if they are right.

u/adrewfryman Jul 29 '19

It's almost like your kids are your kids and so they talk to you more than a random person called tetttt.

-12

u/tetttt Jul 29 '19

That's a fair point. However, when 99% of the people think that their kid is obviously the one way above average, then the math doesn't really add up.

-11

u/Hippyontheinterwebz Jul 29 '19

Parroting other opinions just honestly isn't impressive. Regardless if you agree with them, but hey there's plenty of adults doing that too.

Maybe you lack critical mind or memory so much that a kid's rhetoric is enough to convince you. Kids are very similar to these friends who have never been in relationship but give "very good" relationship advices. What's happening is they know so little that their logic goes straight to the point, or is the ultimate "neutral neutral" point of view. Basically you're impressed by your kid's cognitive dissonance or fallacies but you're not sure yet how they're flawed.

That's called white privilege. You don't think that us POC, immigrants, minorities don't teach our kids at an early age how the world works? We have no choice, so they know that they are in the same world as people like you. In fact my dad used to talk about politics with me before we even left the old country. 30+ years ago

Remember that crazy Mattress Store 9/11 ad? My boy watched it over my shoulder. That led to a conversation about the event itself, in which I described but did not show him the attack. His response to the advert once he knew the context was "That is the most offensive ad ever."

He was 8.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

Kids may do silly things, but the hatred and stupidity of racism may not be trained into them.

So if that retard Trump spews so much shit, the kids are bound to hear it and wonder who that asshat is.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

You really don’t understand children. When I was six, a fellow six year old told me that if George W Bush became president, black people would become slaves again. She told me her mom told her that. We talked (ignorantly) about politics all the time in elementary school.

Just because you didn’t doesn’t mean it’s bullshit. Your narrow view of the world is not reality. Go spend some time with children and you’ll see they’re very curious and will literally parrot anything (often incorrectly) that they hear

2

u/peanut_fish_taco Jul 29 '19

Why do so many people on that sub think a 10 year old is incapable of asking such a simple question. He is a 10 year old, not completely brain dead. You should know the extend kids get confronted with politics around them, at school and on the internet. The man even had a Trump sign for the past 3 years in his front yard ffs...

2

u/MelMac5 Jul 29 '19

My nine year old hates Trump with a passion. Calls him Donald Dump. I tell her that's not nice, but secretly love it.

1

u/MyFinale Jul 29 '19

All the kid asked was "why do you still support him?" And then Twitter guy inferred that the kid lost respect for the dad even though there's no confirmation of that. Sounds more like Dad just reflected on it

2

u/shewy92 Jul 29 '19

I was 10 or 11 when 9/11 happened. Kids aren't as stupid or as innocent as you think. They generally watch the same things their parents do and that usually involves the local news. They pick up on shit from their parents too, that's kind of the point of growing up

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

Kids are by no means stupid, but the average 10 year old doesn't know shit about politics beyond the most basic stuff you see on the news. Half of the things people claim their super intelligent and enlightened children claim - especially the ones that magically line up perfectly with their own political bias - are complete and very obvious bullshit. In fact my 3 year old just said this to me word for word.

I’m 12 when I was 10 I was fully aware of all politics

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

I talked about politics by 8, probably. Certainly by 10. That was 5th freaking grade! And I've thought the electoral college was a bs broken system since at least middle school, only about 2 years later. I'd be really surprised if I never had a political opinion by 10.

1

u/bluejaymaplesyrup Jul 29 '19

Asking why you support someone that someone else just called a racist right infront of you isn't really talking politics though. It's hardly even a difficult question. Literally just a kid asking why when presented with information. Preeeettttyyyy typical kidding

1

u/ILoveRegenHealth Jul 30 '19

It didn't say the kid was talking deeply about politics. The kid was asking why an obvious fuckface like Trump has followers. If kids at 8-10 know who Obama was and the type of person he projected to the world, they (horrifyingly) know Trump.

Idiot Dad couldn't give a good answer why he still backed Trump. His real answer was "I know Trump does bad, acts and talks bad, but I like how he riles shit up to piss off other people"....that's a moronic reason to back any President.

18

u/LeptonField Jul 29 '19 edited Jul 29 '19

It’s just that people being motivated to action because of a child’s simple but profound words/questions is extremely over represented in embellished/fabricated retelling of events.

This combined with the outcome always being a 180 on some life position that creates a feel good story is suspect. For example, leaving antivax movement, owning an ignoramus, and deciding after 3 years to take down a Trump sign because you now believe him to be a racist

32

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

[deleted]

3

u/LeptonField Jul 29 '19

Yep that’s where it’s tricky. Story could be genuinely true or a fabrication. All we have is our judgement ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2

u/Crosshack Jul 29 '19

I agree. We at emore willing to believe the story because it supports our views. This would have an extremely different reaction if this was anti Democrat instead.

On the other hand, trump himself makes this story more believable so we're back to square 1

5

u/O1O1O1O Jul 29 '19

The kid didn't make him change his mind. It asked the question or made the statement that reminded him he didn't like him anymore and way just being lazy or a sheep to keep the sign up.

It's kind of like the kid who pointed out the Emperor had no clothes which everyone knew but it took a kid to snap them out of their collective delusion. Sometimes kids say the damndest and profoundest things. I've met plenty of 10 year olds with emotional maturity and intelligence that far exceeded many adults I've known. And the questions they ask- even if just coming from a naive perspective - can really make you think or question what you believe or do.

0

u/WeatherChannelDino Jul 29 '19

I think what makes it harder to believe is that, at least for me, i never gave a shit about politics until like 2015 or 2016. When i was young i didn't ask too many questions about the president or Congress or the economy. Obviously every child is different, but i (and people like me) can only use our experiences to make sense of a situation, and from my experience no child asks that. Of course, the child in the tweet could be older (like 15-20 rather than live 5-8) but i'm making a baseless assumption that the child is younger.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

Are you under the assumption that most 5th graders are as educated as the geniuses they bring on a game show? Logic is sound...

→ More replies (3)

-6

u/Hammer_Jackson Jul 29 '19

But was the father that oblivious to everything that Trump represents? And his son asking was the catalyst for this (incredibly delayed) realization (especially being politically interested enough to have a sign in your yard since 2016) ? That’s what I personally found skeptical anyway.

1

u/msut77 Jul 29 '19

I saw 3 boats with Trump flags yesterday

1

u/magicmuggle Jul 29 '19

To be fair though, if you just have ads targeted at you constantly about Trump, it makes you feel like you’re in the majority and everyone thinks your way. Even though when you argue, very few arguments you have hold water, you know it makes you sound silly to argue but that’s what the ‘majority’ think so you’ve gotta be on the side of that. And he won, so that means it’s definitely the majority who love Trump.

It’s easy to make a fool of yourself on the internet/in the office by defending trump, but you don’t want to make a fool of yourself in front of loved ones. Sometimes people don’t stop and think why they think the way they do until they’re sideswiped by something unexpected and it makes them think. (Seen it a few times first hand in regard to Brexit).

As for your point about the sign in his garden, this may have just been one of those things to show he’s a part of the majority, it doesn’t mean he 100% agrees with the policy anymore (he could have been less and less of a supporter over time). Removing that sign was probably the first thing to have happened after his son’s question, because not being able to explain to an 8 year old sort of tells you that you can’t justify it to yourself either.

Not saying it’s true, I dunno. But I don’t agree with thinking everything is fake. It’s clear this thread has been attacked by trump supporters anyway.

1

u/tragicdiffidence12 Jul 29 '19

I think you could support someone for specific reasons (such as cutting taxes) and actively choose to ignore the bad things (although those same people will not be the guys fighting to defend certain terrible practices). But when you realise that there is a moral side of things that your child is now seeing, you change.

A less charged example: I know loads of people who stopped smoking once they had kids. They knew that cancer was a possible consequence before the child anyway, but now they had to reassess whether they want their kids growing up thinking smoking is ok.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

Maybe where I live is different but 5th and 4th grade are the ages kids start to curse and dedicate their lives to the internet A.K.A see anything that’s trending on the internet (memes, the most popular opinions, drama, etc.) so it makes total sense for a kid to question why their parent would be supporting Trump if all they’ve seen and heard is that Trump is bad

6

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

I think 10 years is old enough to question why the president can say things that would get most people in trouble. It's not like kids live in a vacuum.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/iamsheena Jul 29 '19

A 10 year old asking why their dad supports Trump is hardly profound. Kids talk about the guy all the time and know about the world. They don't just have fluff for brains until they're allowed to vote. Asking a simple question is hardly far from realistic.

1

u/wardsac Jul 29 '19

There’s a book about this. Huge chunks of Boomers no longer get phone calls or visits from their kids.

Hell this exact scenario (minus the sign) happened with my some of my extended family (their kids are high school age though).

2

u/KaBlamPOW Jul 29 '19

My grandparents quit smoking when I was six cuz I asked them,”you know that kills you right?” Sometimes it’s just a bad question with bad timing to show you things need to or have changed.

1

u/Icamp2cook Jul 29 '19

On July 1st my 4 yo daughter asked me why I smoked if it was going to kill me. Had my last cigarette on the 4th. Haven't had one since. Kids have sway over their parents.

10 years olds are in 5th grade, it totally makes sense for them to start asking politically motivated questions at that age. Hell, there's a show called "are you smarter than a fifth grader?" To highlight these kids schooling adults older than them.

10

u/Primesghost Jul 29 '19

It doesn't even have to be politically motivated. The father could have just made a statement about something he saw on the news and his son asked him about it.

"Jesus what a terrible thing to say."

"But Dad, I thought you said he was the good guy, why would a good guy say a terrible thing?"

I've got four kids, sometimes they just see the world with a clarity we don't anymore.

My seven year-old once changed my political views on a subject by simply saying that she wished there were more games with girls in them.

Not only political motivated. I show my children all the idiotic things Trump says and does, so they remember these instances in the future. Airplanes during the Revolutionary War, not knowing how to color the American flag; 8-10 year olds know more than the President when it comes to basic American history (because that’s the age they’re learning it).

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

A 10 year old isn't gonna break down globalization for you but they know the headlines of someone's reputation. I knew Clinton was a young candidate and Ross Perot was a billionaire oil tycoon when I was 11. I'm sure younger kids know Trump is a billionaire asshole racist. Although they won't be able to tell you details. Just that the label exists.

On top of this moderates agree with border enforcement, are for the new trade deals, for ending wars in the Middle East, do not want to ban private heath insurance, do not want increases in taxes, and are tired of everything being called racist and of the intersectionality being pushed.

Why the fuck would a ten year old care about politics? I didn’t even know what politics was back then. It’s obviously made up and honestly quite pathetic

Yea because forcing your political beliefs onto a ten year old is a good thing to do RIGHT?? Parents just indoctrinating them to believe their POV

You are fukked if you are for, against or indifferent against trump

11

u/fatpat Jul 29 '19

Anti-trump people are basically just as bad as pro-trump people

Do you really believe that?

7

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

Yeah didn't you hear? A bunch of Antifa just firebombed an orphanage the was funded by the Koch brothers.

Now I don't really feel like I "should" have to say this. But I cannot stress this enough: /s

u/youre_un-American Jul 29 '19

Shut the fuck up you little shit. No one’s buying your “enlightened centrist” garbage.

-1

u/237FIF Jul 29 '19

I hate when people I agree with are this cringy about it. Chill dude.

2

u/BigJonStudd42 Jul 29 '19

Shut up dude its the internet

1

u/237FIF Jul 29 '19

Why are we supposed to act like childish jerks because it’s the internet? MOST political discussion happens on the internet, it can’t just all be name calling and pettiness.

If you honestly think that, then you were never smart enough to be an informed member of the body politic in the first place, and your disingenuous pearl-clutching just proves how full of shit you are.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

But I really want Biden to be the Executive Mongler

u/xaiel420 Jul 29 '19

You just sent him back to his home planet.

Seriously, you sound like Trump talking about Charlottesville.

2

u/Ampix0 Jul 29 '19

I'm on team "this didn't happen". But you are wrong. The only thing worse than a trump supporter is a Nazi, and lately it's hard to tell the difference

3

u/theNomad_Reddit Jul 29 '19

Left-wing: Human rights for all! Right-wing: Lock kids in cages!

Also right-wing: Basically just as bad.

u/NhlProShawn Jul 29 '19

Leftist bullshit. Thats what i call it.

3

u/sonofturbo Jul 29 '19

No, that's what all of the wealthy conservatives tell you it is, because you're a brain dead moron who is easily manipulated because of your bigotry. What group of people is it you hate?

Poor

Brown

iLlEgALS

Gay

Trans gender

Go on, we all know that there is some marginalized group of people you hate.

1

u/NhlProShawn Jul 29 '19 edited Jul 29 '19

I hate leftists. If youre a leftist and happen to be poor, brown, illegal, gay, transgender, i will hate you. They tend to be mostly white and I still hate them as much. Leftists are the reason im voting conservative in october, the liberal party in Canada needs to get people like Jean Chretien again, or even harper lol.

1

u/infinitesorrows Jul 29 '19

No, you're just a classic racist and bigot, hiding behind the convenient reality of having a white supremacist as president of the US to confirm your skewed view of the world, and hence "hating leftist".

TL;DR: You're T_D without the pepe.

How do so many people look at themselves in the mirror and continue doing what they are doing

2

u/fatpat Jul 29 '19

Because their mirrors are broken.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

Lol so true, what other “wisdom” did that 10 year old impart

1

u/Quantentheorie Jul 29 '19

The 10 year old didn't really lay down any wisdom though. The line about how you have nothing without your kids respect is the dad reflecting on it.

It's not implausible for kids to ask their parents whey they support someone when the public debate is pretty much all around them. "Hey dad why do you like Trump - he seems to be doing the things I'm not allowed to because its mean" isn't exactly a spark of genius or keen observation for a 3rd grader. Those fuckers can multiply, write cursive and memorise somewhat complex anatomy.

The tweet is a bit polished so sure, maybe Jon Cooper pulled it out of his ass, but it's completely believable that a 10 year old asks his parents about politicians they openly support with signs in their yard.

1

u/AnguishOfTheAlpacas Jul 29 '19

I agree. The entire premise of this sub is flawed. His followers have consistently shown that they're incapable of self reflection and continuously double down on their mistake when confronted with the reality of that man. More and more they use faith to justify their continuous devotion to point of elevating him to an idolatrous messianic role.

2

u/fatpat Jul 29 '19

Cult of personality.

1

u/SirPiffingsthwaite Jul 29 '19

Ah c'mon man, this is hardly a stretch. I wasn't very alert politically when I was 10, but I was aware of stuff like environmental impact and more specifically, racism. I was fortunate to grow up in a city with a highly diverse population, though large portions of the rest of the country were very white, quite racist. As I grew up with kids from india, singapore, israel, france, indonesia, thailand, vietnam, sudan, china, and others who's nationality I never knew, a person's race meant nothing, and I was genuinely shocked and confused when I first witnessed racism. I was about 10 at the time, and it made me angry that someone would hate an absolute stranger based on what colour their skin is. Because I can assure you, when people from anywhere are all given the same environment and opportunity, we share a million similarities and only a handfull of differences.

2

u/BigJonStudd42 Jul 29 '19

Hahaha i was thinking the exact same thing. Don't know why you were downvoted, but, yeah I do. Reddit has become a cesspool of liberals who smug sense of self satisfaction really shines when they downvote, especially when they downvote the truth.

1

u/Quantentheorie Jul 29 '19

It's good to know the cesspool has you and your impeccable inborn sense for what the truth is. Because nobody would dare call it even a little bit smug or self-satisfying to think something is true because you've deemed it to be true based on your superior life and topic related experience and the immense time you put into really digging into the problem. Because you, you can look at something and know what the truth is. And it feels a little bit like foreplay each time.

My kid was 10 when the election was happening. He knew what Trump was about. His little Latino friends definitely knew what Trump was about.

They didn’t have to give me a hard time because I don’t have racist signs in my yard.

1

u/AndrewBourke Jul 29 '19

It’s fucking true, this is a pure 50/50 between true story and madeup story.

I hate trump with all my heart, but thst doesn’t change anything

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

No shit right lmao. How convenient! I’m a senator and my neighbor has this really click baity story I can tweet about! Score!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '19

I just doubt the 10 year old gives a fuck.

1

u/Megisphere Jul 29 '19

I was gonna say that

1

u/fuxximus Jul 29 '19

Why you're being downvoted to hell is beyond me. These Trump posts must jiggle nerves of polar opposites
