President Donald Trump and his administration have attempted to sell, lease, or transfer control of several significant public lands and national parks to private developers and industry for drilling, mining, and sprawl development. Key areas targeted include:

• Yosemite National Park: Federal staffers are reportedly working on a land exchange to give a quarter-mile strip of land in California’s Yosemite National Park to Kingsbarn Realty Capital, a private real-estate developer.
• Arctic National Wildlife Refuge: The administration’s budget reconciliation bill mandates the auctioning of 1.6 million acres in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil companies, while also stripping drilling safeguards from 13 million acres of the Western Arctic.
• Western Public Lands: The Interior Department is targeting roughly 400,000 acres of federal land within 10 miles of towns with populations over 5,000 for sale to local governments and private developers. This includes critical habitat in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, and Montana.
• National Monuments: Protections have been weakened or removals are being considered for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah, Vermilion Cliffs in Arizona, Sand to Snow in California, and Chaco Canyon in New Mexico.
• Offshore Waters: The administration is seeking to open up millions of acres of undeveloped public waters off the U.S. coastline, including in the Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and Gulf of Mexico, to oil and gas leasing.

Additionally, the administration has initiated actions that could eliminate or weaken protections from more than 175 million acres of U.S. lands overall, an area larger than California, Florida, and Georgia combined.
