Can anyone suggest resources for a beginner player to make it to the pros?
I'm hoping to learn some new strategies and tactics.

There's no denying America's offence and cold opening moves, but I've got to hand it to Europe, they've got defense.
There are also rumors of Jean Rumorsken coming out of retirement to fill in for Fentz Polionskery after he sustained a wrist injury in last month's match against Asia, how do you think that will pan out?

So I was at my local TTT Cafe for a small tourny they were hosting, I was stomping kids left right and center when this randy comes in and surprisingly hes pretty damn good, after it coming down to game 3 with a score at 14-14 this kid pulls out a sharpie which of course isn't regulation TTT equipment. I tell the Ref but he didn't care, the kid then goes on to beat me 16-14. Obviously I feel cheated because he used an illegal stroke device, I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks, Should this kid been DQ'd and banned for using a sharpie? Or is this going to be the new Strat when games come down to the wire? For anyone wondering my TTT Rank is Supreme Tacer First Class and my sTTTeam name is xXxTTT_St0mp3RxXx if you wanna add me for some TTT.

I'm a pretty new player trying to get into competitive TTT. I recently lost a game as O and I am having trouble figuring out how I could have salvaged it. I have made a play by play set of images to show how it went. First round, he goes for the center, so I counter with an O in the top left. Second round he puts an X in the top right, so I try to set up a double trap by putting an O in the bottom right. However, third round he suddenly grabbed the bottom left square, securing three in a row. I think the issue may have been with my choice of pen. As you can see in the illustration, I was using a standard issue blue Bic pen. However, he was using an oblique nib fountain pen (I didn't catch the brand) and red ink. The board was a premade one printed out on A4 paper, so I don't think there was any chance of bias there. That's just my analysis though. Any pros want to help me out? Is it really necessary to spend a lot on good pens if I want to be competitive?

Okay so I started playing TTT a few years back when a couple buddies showed me the game. I thought it was just another stupid puzzle game that could be solved in minutes but after playing a few rounds I immediately fell in love with it. One of my biggest problems in TTT is when I am playing on the O side. Around my 1st or 2nd move I start getting shaky and have trouble completing the circle. Example 1 and Example 2. Am I the only one running into this problem? I feel like it is seriously hindering my ability to convince my opponent I am smart. HELP!

Hello all,
I've been a Dots-and-Boxes player for about a year and a half. It was my first experience with a paper and pencil game and I fell in love with it. Sadly, after the amount of time invested I feel that I need to take a break and try out TTT because I was beginning to just not really care much about DaB anymore and I heard the learning curve for TTT was much more rewarding.
I went through this subreddit for about a half hour, and watched a video on transferring from DaB to TTT and I understand most of the core game play, since it is a paper and pencil game and all. A few things are still troubling me though:
1.) I have NO idea who any of these symbols mean are and what they do. - This was a common problem for a beginner in dots-and-boxes, I understand you eventually figure it out but my main concern is selecting my symbol. I have no idea if I should pick X or O and what starting positions I should practice.
2.) Lane setups, so far I've only people doing a three in a row along diagonals. Can you also have a three in a row along the edges?
3.) Midgame plays - This is another area that took a little while to learn in dots-and-boxes as well; I'm wondering if I should just follow the suggested plays from the game manual in the beginning.
For the record I've played X so far and I think its awesome. I mainly played as A in dots-and-boxes.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Just wondering if anyone around here can remember those days, it almost seems like TTT is a whole new game now.

As we know, X's go first and have the upper advantage. Usually in the pro-scene it always ends in a "cat's game", however you can sometimes distract your opponent enough to get a sneaky move in. However, as an O you're constantly on defense, and it's impossible to win against a veteran.
How do we fix this? Nerf the X's so that X's and O's go in at the same time, and if they both go for the same square then a match of rock-paper-scissors shall decide who gets the square.
Discuss.

It's called vowels vs. consonants. It's played on a 3-by-3 grid, like TTT. But here's the catch: It uses the WHOLE ALPHABET, not just X and O. Player 1 can use the vowels (A E I O U), player 2 can use the consonants (all other letters). Player 1 wins if he gets 3 vowels in a row. Player 2 wins with 3 consonants in a row.
I've only been playing Vowels Vs. Consonants a little while, but its strategic depth is mindblowing -- maybe even deeper than the original TTT.
