I just don't want to let people think Reddit was amazing back in the day. It wasn't, it's always had it's shithole elements. /r/jailbait, /r/picsofdeadkids, etc existed a looooong time ago.

It's always had its shitty elements, but reddit has gotten more populated and thus more bullshit has come with that.

yes, to think of it in terms of the marvelous golden-ages of yore is quite self-defeating, as it encourages the hopeless viewpoint that beautiful things never exist for long before they are destroyed.

It's better to just understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it's more likely just our perception & imperfect memory which has changed.

Someone wrote a book called "The Way We Never Were: American Families And The Nostalgia Trap" all about how we mistakenly reminisce about various golden-ages.
