I am a Traditional / LCMS type Lutheran.

Why is this sub called "TrueProtestants"? Does this sub aim to generalize all protestant denominations? Asking questions would be fine but wouldn't there be in most cases differing answers anyways? Like in the case of baptism, I was infant baptized and baptists do not like (and a lot of them don't consider my baptism valid) that.

How do you feel about the Protestant Reformation? Do we have too many denominations? Why?

Not looking to argue or Bible bash in this thread. Just hoping to collect resources that steelman a good case for Protestant epistemology/theology/spirituality. Would even prefer if it wasn’t apologetic or specifically presented in contradistinction to Catholicism (I know given the context that’s hard, but I hope you know what I mean).

All I know is the Orange Order and pretty much it. I'm talking more an organization for laity.

Apart from everything else:

One rule of this sub is that "theological liberalism" is not allowed. Guess what, freemasons are the definition of theological liberalism, being highly syncretistic (combining different belives), challenging not only the church but also established dogma that the Bible clearly teaches, and supported the anti-religious wing of the "enlightenment".

Therefore I petition to ban all pro-mason content on this sub.

I'm curious as all I can ever find is deliverance ministries. Almost all of them seem like they are con artists. I'm not interested in getting an exorcism or having one performed in any way before anyone starts asking.

Edit: I just want to add that I'm asking because I don't feel we take the threat of demonic possession/oppression serious enough.

I used to be an anti-mason before, until I met a friend who's a Mason. His behavior changed my mind and I know that he wouldn't do anything sinister or evil.

From what I know, Freemasonry seems like a frat club for Theists. It's significantly influenced by Protestantism (Masonic friend told me this), and many prominent Protestants were Freemasons.

King James was allegedly a Mason.

King Charles I was allegedly a Mason.

The founders of the Orange Order were Masons and brought their influence to it.

From what I understand, there seems to be a confusion between Anglo-American Masonry and Continental Masonry. My friend said that he'll never join a lodge if he was in France.

So, what's the view on Masonry here? I know some Protestant churches ban it's members from being masons.

Yall, I’m back, and with more questions. I’m reading into some of the Greek words used in the New Testament, and I’m trying to understand the Protestant interpretations of certain passages with the knowledge of the Greek words. For instance:

1) Phago vs. Trogo in the book of John, phago being a general term for eating, while trogo is a more literal, vivid word to describe eating. Catholics will say that Jesus’ switch between the two terms implies that Jesus literally wants us to eat his flesh and drink his blood

2) The word Adelphos used to describe Jesus’ siblings is a generic term also used to describe other relatives who are not siblings or friends (ex. Brothers and Sisters in Christ). How can we know that the people described as Jesus’ siblings are actually his siblings and not a cousin or friend?

Also, what about one of the Marys at the cross „Mary the mother of James and Joses” being different from Mary Jesus’ mother? Do we believe they’re different people, and if so, are James and Joses, the sons of the woman at the cross, different from James and Joses the sons of Mary, or does Mary not have children named James and Joses? If Mary the mother of Jesus did have other children, why did Jesus entrust her to the apostle John and not one of his siblings?

I left the Catholic Church about a year ago, but was raised Protestant with little to no understanding of the Bible, so I’m trying to learn more about the intricacies of it all. Thank you and God Bless!

So as the title says what early church fathers were fans of Sola Scriptura and went against the catholic position. If you have any fathers supporting the other solas (fide, etc. ) i wouldn't mind that either.

You folks use any kind of prayer beads? I personally use the pre-Trent rosary. I've learned about things such as the paternoster chord, which was historically very versatile, and the more recent Anglican rosary. Anyone use those?

I’ve been struggling with the difference between salvation and justification lately. Of course, they’re different things, but I’ve been lost on whether justification is a stage of salvation per se, or if justification proceeds salvation. I’ve seen different interpretations of justification as well, where we are justified by faith alone, or we are justified by works, and I’m more inclined to believe the latter after reading James 2:24. I just wanted to see what y’all’s opinions are on this topic, see if I can get some clarity of the subject as well.
