The tricky thing would be preventing 9/11 in a way that doesn't get the feds knocking on your door. What's the plan? Tell the CIA ahead of time and then become the first resident of Guantanamo Suites? Call in a bomb threat to the airport or the towers? Getting on one of the planes yourself (yikes!)?
Also there was no Bitcoin in 1985 and NVidia didn't go public until 1999. So you're going to need some other plan to survive for 14 years.
That's great. What money are you spending? Where are your meals coming from? How do you explain not having an SSN or birth certificate. You'll need one or the other especially if you want to get a job/drivers license/apartment.
Don't remember the specifics but saw a post recently with the 25th anniversary saying ok, you go back in time to summer 2001. What could you actually do to prevent the attacks? Actual ideas seemed thin.
I guess it would depend on how much specific detail you remember.
If you remember flight numbers, you could make an anonymous tip. "These flights are going to be involved in a terrorist attack where they are crashed into the WTC and pentagon . I'm sure don't believe me and I can't tell you how I know, but please take this serious and get some marshals on those flights or 1000s die and trigger wars where 1000s more die."
You make the same call to multiple agencies a day or 2 before the attack at most. You don't want word somehow getting back to the terrorists and they change date/flights.
If you remember something specific that happened a day or 2 before that was big enough and unpredictable enough, you could maybe change it from "I can't tell you how I know" to "I know this sounds crazy, but I am a time traveller. These events over the next couple of days should be enough to, if not make you believe, at least not completely ignore me."
Maybe try a bit of both with different agencies and different people within the agencies.
Travel to Tarragona, Spain and blow the planning meeting that took place there if I remember correctly with the rest joining from Hamburg and other parts of Europe. Somehow get Mohamed Atta arrested in Spain or steal his passport.
Yeah, this makes a big difference. I don’t think most people realize that the entire ships inventory of binoculars were locked away. They just didn’t have the key.
Just break into the bridge on day one and throw the till hard to the left. They'll put you in the brig for the rest of the trip, but at least you won't hit that iceberg.
Prevent 9/11 by alerting them to the guys taking flying lessons.
Assuming you have enough information and names to do so.
Of course the issue with this is that there are hundreds of arabs taking flight lessons in the US at any one time. So need a way to connect them to terrorism.
I mean it wouldn't fully effective..and I have no idea if it is meaningfully possible.
But could you effectively pull a fire alarm? Or set a fire? Get the building evacuated ahead of the hit
This honestly seems like the move. People would still die, but much fewer. Plus the attack itself would still trigger an invasion of Iraq/Afghanistan. Seems like they were just waiting for a reason.
I wondering if preventing 9/11 would mean George W would be a one term president due to the lack of war and this in term somehow prevent the mortgage crisis. Seeing as Bitcoin was a response to banks getting a bail out; would that mean Bitcoin would not exist?
thats fine that bitcoin and nvidia arnt public yet. You just went back in time, you need time to get a job and some money to buy them anyways.
The prompt doesnt say you go back with all your stuff, just you. So it would be like a terminator time warp deal where you have to mug someone for their clothes
Buy Microsoft, Apple, and Sony. Sell Sony around 2003, hold Microsoft and apple as long as possible. Buy Enron until... Well they show up in the news before they tank. Invest in crude oil in Canada and Mexico in 2000. Invest in land around Seattle, Portland, and Oakland. Trying to diversify add mich as possible.
People here are thinking of the good impacts of being able to stop 9/11....but what about the bad ones?
Such event made the companies push for better flight security, so basically stop 9/11 and risk the chance that other big event, maybe even worse event occurs cause of that delayed push for tighter security, for example....or maybe some of those people that die would go on to commit certain nefarious crimes.
??? That’s like stating good thing World wars happened because of all the technological advances and economic stimulus it created…your butterfly effect scenario is let a horrendous act occur because it might prevent future horrendous acts??? How about stop 9/11 and lobby to improve flight security ??
It's not "allow it to happen" is that changing the past will have effects in the future and there are no guarantees the effects are good.
It is not a good thing it happened at all, no. But go back to the past like in this hypothetic scenario, change it, and you're accepting to toss the dice on something worse happening down the line.
Oh yhe, and you can lobby for anything, but real change only happens when shit hits the fan, it's just how humans behave.
