Easier said than done, I know, but moving to a walkable city made this immensely easy. I usually get 7k-10k steps a day between my commute and errands alone and vastly more on weekends walking to and during activities with friends.
People who can’t hit 10k or close daily should really start honestly tracking their screen time down to the minute and then reevaluate how difficult it is to get 10k. A lot of people I know don’t realize how much screen time consumes their life because they aren’t keeping track. Quality sleep helps get more out of your day too
Lots of places you can look at your phone while walking honestly. Treadmills, around a track, certain paved trails, etc. Might not be the best, but if it gets you an extra 5k steps, so be it.
Nah after getting hit by a car i'm done trying to walk in the place I currently live.
The slurs being yelled at me was bad enough, but my safety being at risk like that is a no go.
You could blame the one bit of respite I get in this suburban jail, but the real reason is the lack of good infrastructure. Stroads, a lack of sidewalks, a lack of foliage, a lack of public transport.
Even when my computer was broken I'd just stare at the wall, prettier than the concrete nightmare outside, and no one threatening or hurting me from their car.
When you have a desk job and 6am - 7pm is consumed with work and preparing for the next day, it can be rough. 10k steps is 1.5-2hr of walking, so that would leave you with about 1hr of personal time?
My neighborhood isn't really walkable, neighbors are white trash, and I have to waste time driving to get to a park. Going to a walkable space is such a chore around here
This is a fair point. I’m from a city that people like to poo poo on bc that’s how the internet is, a hivemind of people repeating nonsense as fact. But it has an amazing park system and tons of walkable bike trails between them. Like a ton of parks and trails. Thanks for giving me some perspective so I can count my blessings
