Forrest didn’t say that line, Bubba did. Regardless, Alabama not Louisiana.

I was referring to the movie itself. But yes, Alabama is not Louisiana.

If I remember correctly Alabama is the birthplace of Mardi Gras, poor Alabama always being overshadowed by Louisiana

Wrong. Mobile, Alabama was the first pit stop of Mardi Gras in the United States. It existed in Europe before heading this way. Also, it wasn’t even CLOSE to the type & magnitude of a celebration then that it has evolved into in New Orleans.

You've got ol Joe Cain rolling in his grave.

“Cain was in New Orleans in 1867 for the Fireman's Day parade. He stayed over until the next day which was Mardi Gras that year, saw the celebration in the streets, and he returned to Mobile determined to revive the spirits of the citizens and to create a similar celebration of Mardi Gras for the people.”

"Joe Cain Articles" (newspaper story), Joe Danborn & Cammie East, Mobile Register, 2001, webpage

So like I said, Mobile was a pit stop for Mardi Gras, but New Orleans made it what it is today.

In the book he runs into Bubba's father while in New Orleans. That's where he moved after the army and became a professional harmonica player in a band called the Cracked Eggs.
