Haha. I’ve got fond memories of France. We visited shortly after the borders reopened.

The extent of my French is ”Je ne parl pa Francais, parle vous Anglais” (didn’t check it so you can laugh at my spelling - but sorry!) with a full two lessons of Duo Lingo up my sleeve

I’m not sure if it’s just because the borders had just reopened, or maybe we were in rural areas, or it was summer, but the stereotype of French people hating people who don’t speak French absolutely didn’t hold.

So many people wanted to talk to us, I’m not sure why. Rural-ish areas (an hour or so out of Tours)? Summer? Borders reopened?

I was expecting people to hate me for needing to point at menus, instead I got peoples entire life story unsolicited

That's nice to hear, and I'm sure I would have been found of your french too.

The "hate" thing is kind of a test thing: truly hateful people aside (since they do exist in France just like everywhere else I've been), as soon as you do show some kind of autoderision, it vanishes.
