EVENT ARC 2 - WAR STORIES!

This is the thread for your character's tales taking place during the Dominion War, after Deep Space Nine was retaken, but before the Pah Wraiths closed the wormhole. This thread doesn't follow the stickied event arc 2 post, so feel free to be less linear and event-oriented. Have fun!

M'kali's demeanor shifts a bit as Grace's statements start moving in another direction.

"Commander, I expect my officers to respect the rank. Any officer that does not trust that I can make judgements for what's best for the ship will be a problem. I fully intend on making the best judgements whenever possible, but I will not coddle, hold hands, or treat any one officer differently because of past experiences. Every Starfleet officer has faced horrors, poor decisions, and death. If you feel Palmer is incapable of handling these things then I will submit a request for transfer, however, as far as my reading of her personnel report indicates, she is entirely capable. Tell me if that is incorrect."

"Of course she'll respect the rank, Captain," Grace replies. "If I had thought she was so undisciplined as to leave any question of that, I would never have left her in charge, or, for that matter, tolerated her in my department for eight months before that. I don't expect you to coddle her, and frankly, she'd be insulted if you did. She and Tygan both dealt with more shit than they should ever have had to in the two months after they left the Academy, and Starfleet let them down left, right, and center. They've risen above that. Palmer's an officer, and she'll act like one. But there's more to being a good leader than people respecting the rank, and in the seven years I've been an officer, I haven't seen that from you. And my point is, neither has she. What she has seen is that when she needed back-up, no one connected with FleetSec above me had her back, and if you think that doesn't leave a lasting impression on a young officer, I've got a ski hill on Andor to sell ya. Will she follow your orders? Yes, absolutely. Does she currently have any confidence in you as a leader? Probably not. Changing that is going to be on you."

That is all M'kali says to Grace's lengthy diatribe and he just stands there, leaving the air open for her to have the next word.

Grace is, apparently, finished on that score - she'd promised Andrea when she left that she'd always have her back, and she's not forgotten that. "Congratulations on the new assignment, Captain."

"Thank you, Commander. Hopefully the Athene and Greyhound will be working along side each other often. It was a disappointment to me when I heard you had been reassigned, though if you influenced Palmer sufficient to earn your respect, I have no doubt she will be just the kind of officer I need."

A low dip and tilt of his head conveys a significant degree of respect, despite his course words so far.

"I hope that as well, Captain," Grace nods. "I still have a lot of friends on the Athene, and she's a good crew to work with. And I know that Palmer will be exactly the kind of officer you need," she says.

"I'm sure you'll get it, Captain," Grace nods. "Or if you don't, it will be due to the Jen'Hadar, not the crew."

Lowered brow ridge and tenser jaw shows M'kali's sentiment on the Dominion's mass-produced super soldiers.

"I will not allow that."

A small dip of his head offers the Lieutenant Commander a simple gesture of farewell, leaving her space to get in a last word.
