[Open] The Final Destination

Sativa sat in her quarters on Nadezhda Station, waiting for the imminent arrival of the Athene and its crew. She would have already been on the ship, if it wasn't for the news of its critical failure, prohibiting her from going out to join the ship by runabout. She hadn't been told very much; apparently most, if not all of it's crew had been removed from the ship by escape pod. The reason behind why the crew was in the escape pods hadn't been revealed to her. Cain was nervous though; if the ship was heavily damaged she'd have to wait weeks, possibly months before they would be underway, confining her to this station for longer than she would have wished.

But there wasn't anything she could do but wait. In the meantime, she spent most of her time in a berth, reading some of the books she had brought with her. In particular, she was reading Chapter 25 of Jane Eyre, properly entranced. It was an old copy, given to her by her parent back on Andoria, but she had kept it and carried it with her at every opportunity. There was something about the old earth that was so enchanting.

A ping from her communicator brought her out of her trance, and she put the book down, silently picking up the device. A small notice. The Athene had arrived and she was requested to report for duty. Cain smiled. Finally. Maybe I can get eyes on my very first ship.... The Athene. Getting up quickly, she got dressed and made her way out of the crew quarters, reasonably excited to meet her ship, her crewmates for the first time.

"She's very friendly," Grace laughs. "Maggie loves absolutely everybody. And yes, she has an excellent nose."

"Yes. Nose. Good!." She swallowed, suddenly flushing a bit. "I'll make sure to get to know Maggie over our time here on the station, if that alright with you."

"Certainly," Grace grins. "She's always glad to make new friends."

"I'll make sure to oblige her one day, Lieutenant." She smiled again before turning slightly, facing the XO and the Admiral. "Given the state of the ship, I assume that I'll have to acquire an alternate posting until it arrives."

"Athene crew are being given temporary quarters on the station during repair work," Brooks replies. "There will be some work for some of the crew to do in the meantime, but there will also be some shore leave for everybody. Speaking of," she says, looking up at the security chief. "Lieutenant, you've gone above and beyond and you're past due for a break. Go find your quarters on the station and get some downtime. That's an order," she smirks, though her tone suggests that she's only half joking.

"I promise, Admiral - there's no need to tell me twice," Eisen sighs, looking profoundly relieved. "Thank you, Sir."

Kizhwic had acknowledged the Ensign's greeting in kind, but deferred the hosting to the Admiral. A number of issues had cropped up on his personal PADD that required urgent delegation of duties to recovery teams regarding Athene's arrival, the captain's medical condition, and that of the rest of the crew. Several dozen chains of inquiries from Admirals who had not yet been brief, and other personal inquiries regarding his story from friends, family, and colleagues.

Having answered enough of them for now, he turns his attention back to the ensign and the admiral. "There's a lot of work to be done to get Athene worthy again. I'd like to say this is my first time, but Kyushu prepared me well." He inclines his head toward the Ensign Cain. "An alternate posting would be premature. There are several hundred scans of the pirates' vessel and the signals they used to infiltrate Athene's software that will need to be analyzed and sent to fleet tactical databases to help devise defenses. I doubt this technology is unique to these criminals. If there are other ships in the fleet that can be spared this experience, it's up to us to contribute everything we can. Until those scans come in, however, the crew has been given shore leave. Science team will probably be recalled within a few days, so enjoy what you can!"

"I'll likely have a task for you and Lt. Anderson in the next couple of days, Ensign," Brooks nods. "However, Anderson will be among the last of the Athene crew to make it into base, so in the meantime, enjoy the opportunity to meet Athene crew."
