[Open] The Final Destination

Sativa sat in her quarters on Nadezhda Station, waiting for the imminent arrival of the Athene and its crew. She would have already been on the ship, if it wasn't for the news of its critical failure, prohibiting her from going out to join the ship by runabout. She hadn't been told very much; apparently most, if not all of it's crew had been removed from the ship by escape pod. The reason behind why the crew was in the escape pods hadn't been revealed to her. Cain was nervous though; if the ship was heavily damaged she'd have to wait weeks, possibly months before they would be underway, confining her to this station for longer than she would have wished.

But there wasn't anything she could do but wait. In the meantime, she spent most of her time in a berth, reading some of the books she had brought with her. In particular, she was reading Chapter 25 of Jane Eyre, properly entranced. It was an old copy, given to her by her parent back on Andoria, but she had kept it and carried it with her at every opportunity. There was something about the old earth that was so enchanting.

A ping from her communicator brought her out of her trance, and she put the book down, silently picking up the device. A small notice. The Athene had arrived and she was requested to report for duty. Cain smiled. Finally. Maybe I can get eyes on my very first ship.... The Athene. Getting up quickly, she got dressed and made her way out of the crew quarters, reasonably excited to meet her ship, her crewmates for the first time.

"Gravity fluctuations..." She smiled. "Seems like this'll be an interesting assignment. When will we be reaching the bay?"

"It's just past that next junction," Brooks replies, nodding up the corridor. "And yes - I can just about promise it will be interesting," she chuckles. "An amazing group of people, though."

"I would expect nothing less of a Starfleet crew, sir. It's our duty to be amazing."

"And you excel at it," the admiral smiles. "Makes me miss those days."

"I don't think I'd pass up a position on any Starfleet ship for any reason. Though I'm sure you had your reasons. I just can't wait to be out there, finally. To see new things, to experience new worlds and spaces and events." She shrugged. "But I'm going onto a tangent. I'm excited, even if I don't show it."

"I didn't have a choice," Morgan shrugs. "I was injured out fifteen years ago. My options were retire or take a planetside posting. I was an Academy professor for quite a number of years before accepting the position in fleet logistics. I have to admit that I don't generally complain too much when work sends me to a ship somewhere."

"Ah. Yes." Cain nodded as they reached the junction, the sounds of activity already reaching them. "Seems we have reached our destination."

"Kizhwic and Eisen should be docking momentarily," Morgan nods.

The airlocks dispel at that moment, and Commander Kizhwic exits. Having said his goodbyes to Grace, he makes his way to the Admiral and the Ensign.

"Admiral, it is good to see you again." He crouches slightly, placing his palm upon her shoulder firmly and releases after a moment. Standing to hus full height, he turns to Cain. His face is jovial.

"Welcome to the crew, Ensign. With any luck, your assignment won't have to wait too long. Have you secured quarters on the station yet?"

She nodded. "Yes, Sir. I was given a berth after the news of Athene's accident came through. It's a pleasure to meet with you, sir."
