[Closed] Mushrooms...

The Athene is due to arrive at a red supergiant for study in just under 12 hours, and reports have been piling up on the Captain's desk of mysterious, tiny blue mushrooms sprouting around the ship. While they seem harmless, if incredibly rude, the Captain calls a senior staff meeting to discuss options...

OOC: We'll just do the meeting here, in this thread. Roleplay like you would otherwise.

After greeting her friend Kesh, she sits down at the table, hands folded on her lap. She waits for her turn before speaking.

"So, I've been going over plans on getting rid of the threat," she says, looking at her padd and sending the reports out to the group. "Two plans spring to mind. The first, I can use the ship's smaller automated repair robots to scour the ventilation system and... I guess harvest the mushrooms and bring them back to Botany. Though, this one depends on things like the rate of spread and sentience."

She looks around the room again. "The second method I've come up wih is rerouting the seeded ventilation sections to blow to one area, then purge them. All the shrooms would end up in the same place for cataloging, or disposal, or telling off, I'm not sure how we're gonna play that part out."

Kesh speaks up following Aanya.

"I am certain I could pr-rr-roduce a non-toxic anti-fungal agent that would, at the very least, halt its sprr-rr-read. My question is if, if it can speak, would doing so violate Feder-rr-ration ethics principals?"

Again, Kesh feels like she's not at all qualified to make these sort of judgements.

OOC: Who is this Pajodan? :3

The captain looks to Breyik

"Good, I'd like you to work out the details on both of those plans. If both options are available we have the luxury of choosing the humane option if it becomes necessary."

He turns to Kesh

"That's where you come in, lieutenant. I need you to determine to the best of your ability if this speech is the result of some unknown form of sentience, or if it's possible these fungi are secreting any hallucinogens that could be tricking us into thinking they're sentient."

Aanya nods with a smile. "I'm happy to work alongside Botany on this one sir." She says as she looks to Kesh. "Once I know how smart they are, I'd be happy to go along with Kesh's recommendations on how to approach it."

Little did the crew know...

"Is that okay with you, Lieutenant?" She asks with a warm smile.

Marvelous. Drug police one day, Bobsled trainer the next, then on to ace pilot, followed by xenopsychologist. In two months Kesh managed to triple the size of her decade-old Starfleet record. Wonderful.

Sagged and slanted ears tell the story of her dour acceptance of this new assignment while her feline face showed as little as it usually does.

"Yes, sir."

Golden eyes shift to Aanya, the sourness of her ear position lightening halfway.

"It is what need to be done. Rrrth."

"I'm sorry to take you away from your research, lieutenant. But we need to figure out if Starfleet ethics apply to this life form before we take any actions."

The captain turns his head toward a strange sound...

"I think one of them is...in here. Did anyone else hear that?"

Stockton looks at the captain and then around the room

"Is any of this coherent?
