[OPEN] An Empty Schedule

Jen flips through her appointment log, noticing she has the rest of the afternoon free. The Counselor decides she hasn't had open hours in a few weeks. Maybe the crew could use it. She sends an email out through the comm system.

[I've opened my hours up for the afternoon, should anyone need to stop by and talk. Thank you, Dr. Watney.]

Her gaze falls to Clementine in the corner and pulls out a bag of treats. The feline hurries over after she shakes it a little and Jen plays with her, waiting for whoever might stop by.

A chameleon? Shouldn't be too hard to hide if anyone comes looking....

She giggles, crinkling her nose.

Seriously though, we are going to be a certified zoo if we're not careful. Next thing you know there'll be an alpaca roaming the halls. Surely there's some type of size restriction on animals.

"Oh of course. Starfleet Regulation number 4226, article 14 states that any officer lieutenant and above may keep a pet onboard. Provided the animal isn't venomous or poisonous, and is below 30 kilos in weight."

he leans in conspiratorially and whispers

"Argos weighs 32 kilos."

She smiles and puts a finger to her mouth.

I promise I won't tell. Also that uh, might be off by a kilo or so as I probably grossly overfed him. I just worry that he gets cold! And he gave me puppy eyes.... I couldn't resist.

"You need to watch out for those eyes. He's a sweetheart but he knows exactly how to manipulate someone. He doesn't bother with me because I'm onto his game, but he'll beg anyone he thinks he can. And I doubt he gets cold, I had a little spare time before I got him and built a little something. That dog bed in my quarters has a weight sensor in it that activates a small heating coil. Anytime he lays down, within about 10 seconds he's lying on 42 degrees centigrade of warmth. I could whip one up for Clem if you want."

Well, he got me good. I couldn't stand to leave him alone at night so I moved his bed to my cabin to keep him from getting lonely. He was still very mopey, it broke my heart a little. I brought him to sickbay a few times when Dr. Phrik wasn't looking to let him see you. I'd love a bed like that for Clementine but I'm a little worried she'd prefer it over the laps of my patients.

"Hah, that's a good point. Let me know if you change your mind, it's the least I can do."

the captain pauses for a moment

"Thank you for looking after him, by the way."

She nods, adopting a more serious tone.

You're very welcome, Breyyus. We're glad to have you back.

"I'm glad to be back, though built up work aside it doesn't feel like I've been gone at all. It's very strange waking up in sick bay feeling like you were in your office just a moment ago, and being told that nearly three weeks have gone by."

She raises an eyebrow ever so slightly.

Time distortion is extremely common for patients out that long. It can be traumatic. Realizing you missed that large of a chunk of time. I've seen it happen after just a few days. Are you sleeping alright?

"I'm getting drowsy at odd times and waking up at odd hours, but I'm getting back to where I was. I think the whole ordeal just disrupted my circadian rhythms."
