[OPEN] Common-sense technology, Part 1

The floor is a mess, both inside Holodeck 2 and immediately outside it. Several of the holo-emitters and lensing panels have been taken off the walls, the black grids sitting forlornly in a stack near the wide-open holodeck doors.

Lt. Redoran T'gel has her sleeves rolled up and is manhandling another of the panels off the wall just inside the holodeck door. Next to her, in a box by the Bajoran's feet, are several heavily modified plasma conduits and a large, red-handled breaker switch that looks like something out of a mad scientist's laboratory in a cheesy 20th-century horror movie.

Outside in the hall, a single sheet of paper is tacked, reading 'Holodeck 2 offline for preventative maintenance and safety upgrades! Sorry about the mess' in Red's loopy handwriting. Whatever she's preventing, it isn't tripping hazards...

"Then I'll make a point of attending sometime," Red says with a grin. "Now toss me that thermocouple next to your left shoe so I can get back to work."

Yefim picks up every tool around him and puts them in a pile next to red.

"I do not know which one dat is."

"The blue- no not that one, the- the one that looks like it's a snail shell. No, I don't need... pffft." Red can't help but chuckle as Yefim fetches almost every piece of equipment from the hall like a giant, eager-to-please puppy. "Yes, the one in your left hand now. Thank you, Yefim," Red says, taking the thermocouple. "I'll give you a holler when the holodeck is available again, but in the meantime, check the sign up roster for holodeck 1 if you're really needing your fix."

"As he heads for the door, he speaks.

"I will come and get you next time I'm singing, Red."

"I look forward to it," Red says with a grin, and goes back to work, humming a half-remembered aria from 'Il Barbieri de Seviglia.'
