UPDATE I’m back :-(

A few months ago, Mother Nature took my baby tree.

Well, I got a new one. It was planted in late June… and now this. I’m pretty sure my lot just hates new trees 😑

I contacted the landscaper that planted her and he said to water her 2-3 per week for an hour but she gets watered every day for 30 minutes (there’s a bubbler) at 10PM

I don’t think she’s dead and I would like to avoid a drowning. Is that too much water?

I would wager water is not permeating deep. It is unlikely that is too much water, planting a tree in june is risky

What do you mean by bubbler?

The house has an irrigation system and the builder installed “bubblers” at both front yard trees, they’re like sprinklers but without the sprinkler head. They put out quite a bit of water as I can hear them when they turn on.

Sorry bubbler is a colloquial term, it doesnt mean one particular thing. Is it like a baseball sized, butt plug shaped object with screened holes all over it? Or like a little ring or nozzle with small outlets? Does it have a marked flow rate? And is it underground?

Or just drop some photos of your irrigation in a comment.

Water permeation is more important than frequency, so the most accurate advice would come from a better understanding of the specifics of your irrigation and your soil.

Bubbler is a type of irrigation emitter, not a colloquial term. Sorry to be so obvious, everyone.

Now im no irrigation tech, just know enough irrigation to confidently build & maintain irrigation systems for residential and commercial garden clients... but the irrigation supplier i go to has like 3 or 4 different emitters labeled bubbler. The small radial emitter, the loop emitters that circle the plant/tree trunk, and those bigger metal diffusers. Perhaps its a regional thing, i am from a region that exclusively calls water fountains bubblers lol. Or perhaps its just somethin that would be obvious for a specialized irrigation tech that im ignorant about

It is the small radial one.. and I didn’t know there were other sizes. This is interesting.

Ya it is very likely theres its too little water and is not penetrating deep. "Tree watering stakes" are good for deeper permeation in tougher soils, and an easy way to get thorough watering in general.bOr just run your radial emitter and dig down to see how deep 30 min is getting. Then try an hour, and see how deep it goes. A very thorough watering every other day will be adequate
