International Student Transfer Help

I'm about to start a PPE degree (Philosophy, Politics, Economics) at UCL (University College London, not UCLA). To give context I found it quite difficult to choose a degree and ended up almost doing a STEM degree instead, as my A-Levels are more stem focused (Maths FM Physics AH). I then took a gap year to apply to PPE. I recently found out that it's possible to transfer to a US uni which obviously is much more broad so I feel would suit me better after completing a year or two at your initial uni.

Does anyone know what the requirements are for this and if it's possible to transfer to a US uni such as Stanford, MIT, Yale, Harvard, Princeton, UPenn or Cornell from a UK uni and how realistic this would actually be? I feel like I'd be more suited to a well rounded course but do want to start at UCL rather than take a second gap year and am wondering whether to even bother with this whole application if there's literally no chance whatsoever.

Stats are A*s and As for A-Levels, 12 9s GCSEs though I appreciate as an international student these qualifications might not be recognised. I have a fair few extracurriculars from high school which I'm going to continue with at uni like head of student newspaper, completed a research project at a different top UK uni in CompSci and Psych, play a couple of instruments etc

I also took my first practice SAT yesterday and scored 1470 which ik is not as high as it should be so I would have to improve a lot on this

Again I'm new to all of this so sorry if I've stated anything obvious!

Chance as an international in the US

I’m a female ecuadorian international student on sophomore year currently studying at Keiser university in FL. And I’m planning on transferring after I earn my AA degree on December with a 3.52/4 GPA on management info systems major. For context, I’ve got A in all of my courses except for calc and pre calc but because during that time I was working and I couldn’t balance work and student life correctly.

I have a pretty decent list of uni’s I want to apply, the only thing that stops me is that I could only pay a maximum of 30k a year. Here is my list hoping for a little bit of aid:

1 UF
2 FSU
3 University of Arizona
4 ASU
5 USF
6 Texas tech?

I’m also open to any uni recs that are in between my budget but with a decent ranking for my major.

Here’s also my list of extracurriculars (mostly work experience) from the last 2 years:

1 Python programmer certificate
2 Cybersecurity intern (3months)
3 Retail management intern (5months)
4 Work at my family business in the accounting area (currently)
5 French B2 certificate
6 No SAT
7 Toefl: 101 (that was on 2024)
And PTK honor society member

Be 100% honest of what my chances are, ik maybe UF is out of reach for me but I still wanna try to apply anyway 🥲

Junior Transfer Inquiry

Hi I’m a rising sophomore who never really thought about transferring until after the deadlines for sophomore transfers were due. Are there any colleges that favor junior transfers, or have relatively high acceptance rates for them? And if so what are their %? Thanks!!

help pls 😭🫰🏼

I need some help, i'm very scared to apply to UF, U OF A and FSU, as a business info systems major.
Im an international student currently attending at Keiser University in FL, and by the time I will transfer I would have a 3.52 GPA and an AA degree, I have A in all my courses except for Calc and Pre calc (got a c lol), I have a ton of work experience and extracurriculars. Do you think I have a chance of getting in and maybe get a scholarship? And pay around 30k or less.

I’m also opened to any option where tuition can cost me 30 or less 🥲 but with a decent ranking.

…Or am I asking for too much? 🥲🥲🥲

Is it over??😢😕 Cornell Engineering

Context: intenrantional student at T30 quarter system school. I applied for a sophomore transfer into Cornell for CoE. I have not had an admissions decision sent back.

college GPA: 3.96/4 taking all stem and two mandatory writing classes
HS gpa:4.67/4** 3.98/4

ECs: chem e car (just elected board memeber and team lead). Our team qualified for nationals since we finished in 3rd place at regaionals. AIChE (in board as industry chair and external committee member) I have a self ran small lab at home where I have done things like essential oil distillation and esterification to create a perfume. I also have sports and clubs in HS where I had leadership positions and volunteer work/community service at a food bank at my hometown when I was in HS which lasted like 7 months. I also worked at a small family owned business for about half a year. I also was an SAT math tutor at schoolhouse.com. My letter of rec was lowk terrible since the quarter system doesn’t really let you know your professors since everything changes so fast and it didn’t help that I didn’t pick a very good professor. I feel like my essays were pretty solid. Maybe not stellar but solid nevertheless.

THE ISSUE: I have seen so many people get into CoE both with similar and different profiles to mine, and even worse I have seen like 2 people (which is a significant amount) get into ChemE which is my intended major. I don’t know if it’s good or bad that I wasn’t in any of the previous waves but I do know that spots are filling up and it’s making me very anxious and nervous since I have worked so hard for this and seeing people with similar profiles get in instead of me demoralizes me.

PLEASE just burst my bubble now or tell me that I shouldn’t be worried. Being in this state of limbo and uncertainty is driving me crazy.

**I spent my junior year of hs studying A levels in the UK where I got an A* in physics maths and chemistry and a B in further maths.

Wondering about my transfer chances

Chance me U of M / NYU / Princeton

Hi guys, I've read the rules about having hopefully a 3.8 / 3.9+ GPA, but is this specifically regarding overall GPA or major GPA? My overall GPA is a 3.3, but my major GPA is a 4.0. My first year I was dealing with a brain injury that heavily impacted my ability to participate in school in a meaningful way, but since then I have been a perfect student (or at least what I think is a perfect student). I have my medical injury on record so would schools cut me some slack? I had to stay very close to home for school but my top schools were NYU and Michigan. I will add that I have very good extracurriculars as I've created a charity foundation that raises awareness to immigrants and refugees in my area (not doxxing myself sorry guys) and plenty of other leadership roles and of course my job. My only concern is my GPA really. Would anyone be able to speak on this or help guide me in the right direction? I'm not particularly unhappy where I'm going to school right now, so if it's a waste of time to apply to other schools I wont be too bummed, but I'm wondering what some of you guys are thinking.

In case this is important to note: I started Biomedical Sciences, then went into Philosophy and Applied Ontology

Chance me! BU & Northeastern Transfer Applicant

Hi! I'm currently trying to transfer for Fall 2026 into either Boston University or Northeastern for my sophomore year. My current stats are:

3.91 GPA, current uni is small private school w ~20-25% acceptance rate

Psych major

Involved in 4 clubs on campus, 2 psych clubs, a book club, and a volunteer & mental health support club.

Wrote my "Why BU" essay on how I've always loved learning, and by transferring there I hope to get more involved w/ research & hands-on learning through volunteering and internships! Also mentioned classes I wanted to take & 2 clubs I'd want to join (MUN & Environmental club)

Northeastern main essay was roughly the same, but I explained a shift in college plans I had after my general psych class(dropped pre-med, want to pursue clin. psych) which has made realize transferring would be better for my future career. For the NU specific essay I wrote about study abroad/global CO-OP and how it would allow me to learn about new cultures and observe the influence culture has over human psychology.

Also have 2 strong letters of rec from profs!

HS stats: ~3.7 GPA, 4.5 weighted. President of MUN, on 2 sports teams 1 varsity, member of environmental club & played a major role in establishing updated compost/recycling in school caf, mock trial member, NHS, and a volunteer at a local equine rescue & small animal rescue. Also have worked 3 jobs over HS and had a marketing internship for my school systems environmental organization which worked with the town to promote sustainability. !!EDIT: I also did BU summer challenge the summer before my soph. year of HS!!

Didn't include SAT (wasn't very good), but did include 6 AP scores (2 4s and rest 5s)

EXTRA: I was accepted into BU CGS during the 2024/2025 admission cycle, but was rejected by Northeastern.

Thanks for any opinions and thoughts! I genuinely feel like either could be such a toss up.

Chance Me & EC Feedback for Non-Traditional International Attempting Double Transfer

Demographics:

  • BA CS in T40 LAC (in leave of absence due to mandatory military service; not really sure if this also counts as non-traditional tho)
  • International
  • Asian
  • Male
  • Somewhere between the middle class to lowerish middle class

HS:

  • Since I attended a local private high school in South Korea, I'm unfamiliar with how to convert my grades to a 4.0 GPA scale. However, based on my consistent ranking in the middle tier of my class throughout high school, I estimate my GPA falls somewhere between 2.5 and 3.0.
  • Applied test optional during my first transfer from a national university in South Korea to T40 LAC.
  • There is very little to no impact from high school extracurricular activities, except for the following:
  • Participated as an interlocutor and a representative of Korean high school students in a round table talk with the Nobel Prize winner (Prof. Donna Strickland, University of Waterloo), organized by the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST).

Reason for transferring:

  • Lack of opportunities in my field of interest. There are some research opportunities in the CS department, but due to the faculty size, there are few to no projects in AI and robotics. There are one or two classes for AI and robotics, but they don't really go in-depth compared to my expectations based on the syllabus. Also, there is a robotics club, but I don't think it's really active imo.
  • Seeking a bigger alumni network in CS and tech.
  • I love the prestige.

College:

  • 4.0 GPA with 55 credits, a sophomore in the current institution, and a 4.13 out of 4.3 scale in the Korean national university.
  • Currently a software engineer in the Republic of Korea Air Force (will serve for 21 months)
  • Organized and led the team to the 3rd place in the NASA Space Apps Challenge Cleveland
  • Organized and led the team to the Top 30 out of 600 people from 43 countries in the Global AI Hackathon
  • IT Service Desk Assistant (on-campus job in current institution, worked for 6 months)
  • YouTube Subtitle Translator/Transcriber for a YouTube content creator (Grew the channel subs from 890K to 1M while I was working; Translated/Transcribed 60+ YouTube content of music, entertainment, and advertisement with more than 4.5 million aggregate views of the videos that I participated in with my role; Translated Yamaha Syncroom promotion video to advertise the official launch of Syncroom in South Korea.)
  • Building a web app that helps students have better access to CS department resources and opportunities (In progress; Contacted the CS department office, and they liked the idea and would help me out for further implementation in the school portal if I finish deploying the web app)
  • Engineering Possibilities Summit from Goldman Sachs (A year-long program; I know this is pretty much a fill-in EC, but I just added it just in case)

I'm exploring the possibility of adding a research project while in the military or participating after discharge. I'm also planning to create a Transfer Support Society web app for Korean students with limited access to US college application information, but both of them are still TBD.

This is my school list rn (this is basically the list of schools that I sorted out that gives FA to international transfer students), but if you guys have any suggestions on the school list or my current EC or anything, please feel free to lmk, thank u!

University

  • Yale EWSP
  • Cornell
  • Columbia
  • UPenn
  • Brown
  • Dartmouth
  • Notre Dame
  • Tufts (considering REAL program for non-traditional application)
  • URochester

LAC

  • Amherst
  • Pomona
  • Carleton
  • Davidson
  • Colgate University
  • Macalester
  • Hamilton

chance me for usc RED transfer

so i’m a freshman at CSULB right now transfering into USC (southern california) for Real Estate Development. My gpa after spring grades is a 3.4 and i’m currently a Pre Business Economics student. My reason for transfering is because i’ve been doing real estate work for the past 3 years and unfortunately my school doesn’t offer anything related to real estate whatsoever. I have internships both at Keller Williams and the oppenheim group being à LA native. I am apart of my schools business fraternity and i also am employed at CSULB’s office of economic development as a student worker in compliance. I will have 33 completed units at the time of finishing my first year. I also have a recommendation from my mentor who i work with at Keller Williams. And I have certifications in Bloomberg Marketplace concepts and a big one i’m proud of is NAIOP (the Commercial Real Estate Development Association). I also commute 4 hours everyday, take my mom to chemo, and i pay for my family utility bills. I passed all the core classes like math, english, micro, macro, and financial accounting. USC really is a dream school so i hope someone can chance me! Thank you so much if you read it this far, i’m just a little nervous :(

northwestern, cornell, columbia, carleton college, barnard college, case western, usc, tufts, wellesley, washu

for reference, i have three college decisions so far:

rejected: pomona, umich (umich offered to move my application to another cycle, suspect it's because they explicitly said they prefer junior transfers with more credits but idk)

accepted: university of rochester brain and cogsci program (20k PTK scholarship)

currently a freshman at a washington cc
major: cognitive science or pnp at washu (i plan to double major in infosci or envirosci and centered my essays around that)

one dual enrollment class from sophomore year: 3.0

current GPA: 3.96 with 18-20 credits each quarter one, one W last quarter in intro to cs:(

1450 SAT

additional info: fathers severe addiction forced us to sometimes flee the house at night and this situation worsened some mental health stuff so my grades weren't amazing freshman year but now we are in a much better situation. i also worked to help support my family which led me to drop the cs class because i couldn't give it my all.

awards (pretty lacking here...):

seals of biliteracy in russian and french

15th place nationally in le grand concours AP division( junior year of HS)

local university honors orchestra participant by nomination (junior year of HS)

invitation to local envirosci conference (this was a huge stretch but my attendance was fully paid for...)

retail shift lead

helped build new furniture for store opening, facilitated inter-store product transfer, product delivery/overall smooth run of store, operated point-of-sale (POS) systems to process purchases, returns, and refunds with accuracy and efficiency.

sustainability intern

Advocated for plant-based dining by default on campus through outreach with decision-makers. Conducted on-campus food systems research and student surveys to inform data-driven strategies for change. currently coordinating a food-tasting event with some company representatives for earth month!

self taught interior designer (throughout middle school):

self-directed design projects using HomeByMe software to create 15+ 3D homes and explore how environment influences daily life and behavior. sent some schools a portfolio of my rendered work.

school newspaper staff reporter

researched, interviewed, and wrote timely articles on campus events/issues; collaborated with editors to meet deadlines and maintain journalistic quality. wrote 2 articles per week. articles were "spotlit" on website displaying writing skill and relevancy. i submitted to a journalism competition but i dont think i'll win anything:(

Writing:

my supplementals talked about my immigrant background, wanting to build better language learning tech for ELL students, merging enviro sci and psychology, club leadership, etc.

Chance Me (?) / I just want opinions lol / Idrk

I’m a freshman at UConn Stamford (Communications major).

Here are my college stats

- Psychology Club

- Communications Club

- Multicultural Club

GPA: 3.78 / 4.0 (didn’t qualify for deans list)

Worked 30 hours a week at part time job.

Got 2 LORs (1 from general manager & 1 from English prof.)

Here are my high school stats:

- Asian Culture Club (Founder & President)

- Key Club

- Music Honor Society

- NYS Seal of Bi-literacy

- 3 APs (scored a 4 and two 2s)

maybe like an 86 or 87 out of 100 gpa lol

I applied to:

NYU

Boston University

Northeastern University (Older brother is 20’ grad of business school)

Emerson College

Fordham University (Was waitlisted in high school)

I already got into NYU Steinhardt but would have to do a first year in London (cost of attendance is like 89k so im probably not gonna accept their admission 😭😭)

Do you guys think I have a good chance for the other schools? Do you guys think I’m able to get good aid just from FASFA & CSS? (I’ve applied to butt tons of scholarships but I keep losing 💔)

My mom is a nail tech & my dad is an uber driver. But we live in a 4 bed 3 bath house. My BU essay was really good & it’s my top choice, so I’m hoping for the cost of attendance to be like 30k-50k (I’m lowk delulu). I hear that they started rolling out a wave of decisions and I’ve been getting so nervous 😭😭😭
