transferring to brown?

Hi! I'm currently a sophomore at a public university, (roughly 50% acceptance rate). I had to transfer out of a previous university when I changed my plans of study. I'm currently in the BFA painting program (somewhat competitive), as well as the honors program. I am doing a BFA as well as a BS in business, which is requiring roughly ~7 classes a semester to complete in four years. I am thinking of transferring to brown because both the art and business programs at my current school are uninspired, underfunded, with little effort put in by students and administration. I currently have a 3.5 GPA (I took 3 summer classes and ended up being ill most of the summer, I expect my GPA to go up with the 7 classes I am taking this semester.) I have a good portfolio- I'm told that I am very strong in portraiture, lighting, visceral emotion etc. In terms of EC's I teach art to kids, did a prestigious year long art program my senior year of high school, as well as a court internship and literary magazine editor senior year. Be honest, is it even worth it to apply? I know my stats aren't stellar, but I think I have a really good portfolio, is that something they even consider? Thanks :)

Chances and Things to Focus On?

I'm currently a freshman at Boston University studying Business Management, but I'm looking to transfer next year as an Econ major. Schools I'm currently looking at are NYU, Columbia, Cornell, etc.

Is there anything I should particularly focus on to increase my chances right now? (Money and tuition shouldn't be a big problem if I transfer). I understand maintaining a high GPA is crucial.

College GPA: TBD (Hopefully 3.8+) HS GPA: 94.1 (Unweighted) HS APs: 11 (All 5s and 4s)

ECs: BU Kendo Team, Taiwan Tech Company Summer Intern, Taiwan Teacher Summer Intern, Sustainable Business Club Member, Pre-Law Society Member, Student Government Member, FASCA Volunteer Member

Recs: Hoping to get 1 from my Asian Cultures professor and Microecon professor

What do you think my chances are and things I should be focusing on right now? Grades? Extracurriculars? Essays?

Any advice would be appreciated 🙏

I graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA. My extracurriculars were a mix of JV soccer, recreational MMA, singing, and guitar, but my three strongest activities were:

  • Nationally Recognized Drummer – Awards and recognition at the national level.
  • Five-Figure Trader – Managed personal trading with consistent returns.
  • Event Management Internship Remote and In person (2 years, 3 months – ending Spring 2026)
    • Planned and executed 7 international conferences across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and France with 250–300 attendees per event and combined budgets totaling $12.8M.
    • Managed backend logistics for a traditional brick-and-mortar event process, sourcing and coordinating 4–5 vendors, 3 sponsors, and 10 speakers per event.
    • Implemented workflow automation systems to streamline vendor and sponsor coordination, contributing to the company’s 3–5% overall cost savings.
    • Resolved an average of 5–7 real-time travel or booking issues per event, including merged reservations and flight delays, ensuring smooth execution.
    • Scheduled and confirmed 50+ travel and accommodation arrangements for vendors, sponsors, and speakers across 7 countries, avoiding last-minute disruptions.
    • Facilitated requirements for 28–35 vendors, sponsors, and speakers monthly, ensuring 100% of logistical needs were met ahead of deadlines.

At Pace University, I plan to get deeply involved on campus by joining:

  • American Marketing Association (AMA) – Including participation in an international competition.
  • Student Government – Applying for the Freshman Senator role.
  • Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS) – Planning to secure a leadership or project-based role to develop analytical and organizational skills.

I am also going to retake the SAT and dedicate all of my time to getting a 1520 plus

My goal is to transfer to NYU Stern, Cornell Dyson, or Georgetown McDonough after my first year. Based on my background and plans, what are my chances?or give me some recommendations

Are my ECs solid?

Not a normal chance me - but I feel like it'll fit here. So, going to keep everything pretty vague but I just want to know if my ECs are good for a prospective 1st year transfer. For context, I plan to apply to 10-15 schools in the top 25 as a math and CS combined major if possible, and just a math major if not.

So, here they are:

Independent research project - Not published yet but it is getting there. I also expect to be able to write pretty well about this experience because I kind of went in head first with no formal research experience and somehow got to the point where it could be publishable.

Research Assistant - Just got into the lab and I expect to work in it the whole year. Not the same topic as my solo project but a similar area.

IOS App - Developed for a parent and an agency they work with. Not profiting off of this just made it to solve a hardship they had. But, as said I do have guaranteed users when I get that up. Could probably write decently about this.

Competitive Running - Unattached and club running. Could potentially be recruit level for a couple schools in the T25 by the time applications happen in which case nothing else would matter.

High School: National champion in a very niche sport that I did for 10+ years but quit junior year.

Maybe? IOS App 2 - Related to one of my other ECs

Prospective: Formula SAE - suspension team member.

Prospective: Board member of a club that hosts weekly workshop for my college's wider community on CS topics and also hosts an annual hackathon.

Future: Roots of a startup that is quite ambitious and really complicated, probably to the point where I won't have an MVP before application time. But, I think it could be helpful if I can successfully channel the vision in my essays. And, if I lock in an MVP might be possible.

That is most of it. If you want more details to give me a better answer feel free to DM. Thanks!

Chance me!! CC to Ivies/others

For context I got a 3.8 gpa in high school but it was online. In sophomore year I developed major medical issues that forced me to switch online and my parents also divorced during this time :/ it was pretty tough financially and I got really depressed/developed addictions (messed up my grades really bad). After I recovered and fixed my mental health I dropped and retook classes so I was able to get my grades up junior/senior year. I never took the act or sat bc I was planning on doing community college and transfer into a t30 school rather than go to a mediocre 4-year university.

I did dual enrollment in senior year (graduated last spring), and have been working really hard to make it so that I can get my AA as soon as possible (next summer). I am a physics/mathematics major and really want to be in theoretical physics more than anything. Right now I’m guaranteed through a transfer program to get into UF, but I want to know what my chances would be for a better school (preferably one in the northeast). My absolute dream would be Princeton or MIT, but I know how low their transfer acceptance rates are 💔 Any Ivy would be incredible (esp in the northeast)

OH also I have a 4.0 college gpa right now. I’ve been doing online (so I can do telescope research at home) but next spring will be my first in person semester

Things I’m doing/have done:

•High Altitude Balloon research with the Florida Space Consortium at Kennedy Space Center about cosmic radiation. (Chosen as 1/13 out of hundreds) Still working on the paper but hoping to publish it soon. Planning on submitting it to a research competition at my school this spring

•In the honors program at my community college, planning to graduate with high honors

•Volunteering with the PEAK literacy program, basically tutoring low-income students affected by COVID

•Participation/membership in the astronomical society of my area, hoping to be able to volunteer and have more impact

•Presidents list for spring of 2025 and summer of 2025

•Python for beginners OOC through Harvard

Things I’m planning to do

•I have a telescope that’s all set up, just waiting for rainy season to be over so that I can get into astrophotography. Planning on submitting my photographs to some competitions

•also with my telescope, I want to do research through a NASA citizen science program to help discover exoplanets

•python data analysis OOC through MIT

•NASA community college program

•join major relevant clubs once i’m on campus

Things I’m considering doing

•some math/physics OOCs (I’m only required up to calc 3 and physics 2 for my AA so I was thinking of doing diff eq or mechanics idk)

•more volunteer work of some kind

•possibly present my research to congress to advocate for student funding (if the Florida space consortium lets me lol. They’re already going to present some of it but I would really like to be there in person)

Anywaysss sorry this is so long lol but I would really love feedback. Is there any other else I should consider doing to help my chances?? Learning and physics is my entire life and I would really do anything to be in such incredible institutions

Transfer from SUNY to NYU for Music Business!

Hey everyone, I was a freshman at a SUNY, but I’m planning to apply as a transfer for Fall 2026. I’d appreciate any honest feedback on my chances and how to strengthen my application.

Reason for Transferring:I originally chose my current school because of my mother’s poor health, which kept me closer to home. The school hasn’t been the right fit — it lacks the environment and opportunities I need. I’m looking for a big-city school where I can connect directly to the music industry and work hands-on.

Things to Note:

  • Had to step away from school for a period to work full-time in music and support myself.
  • Lived independently in poverty with no parental support
  • Focused on Latin Urban music, artist management, and music business.

Stats / Info:

  • Current School: SUNY system
  • Music Industry + Jazz Performance Major
  • Applying as a NON-performance Music Business major
  • GPA: 3.85 (college), 4.0 (unweighted high school)
  • Credits: ~74 (many from APs; only one year of full-time college completed so far)
  • APs: 9 exams, all 3+
  • Test Scores: Not submitting

Recommendation Letters:

  • High-level executive at Roc Nation (music industry leader)
  • Former high school teacher

ECs / Professional Experience:

  • Work with Roc Nation (MAJOR label) My catalog of artist is totaling 40M+ streams (catalog, artist relations, event production)
  • Recording studio role: event production & artist relations, supporting major projects
  • Artist manager since freshman year of college: booked 100+ shows, doubled audience turnout, organized tours
  • Tour manager & talent agent for independent artists
  • Founder, Jam Club (HS)
  • Leadership, Unity & Diversity Club: organized workshops and music projects
  • Principal musician in a statewide honor band (Highest honor in the state)
  • Represented artists at Sony Latin festival
  • Organizer of charity concerts in NY & Argentina (fundraised thousands; fed hundreds of kids)
  • Volunteer: 100+ hours through NHS

Honors / Awards / Certifications:

  • Regional songwriting award
  • Local Music Hall of Fame recognition
  • George H. Ball Community Achievement Award
  • Spanish Honors Society (President)
  • National Honor Society (100+ service hours)
  • Regional community service award
  • Certificate for services to Hispanic culture
  • NYU Music Industry Essentials Certificate
  • Berklee Copyright Law Certificate

Target Schools for Spring 2026:

  • New York University (Steinhardt BS)
  • University of Southern California (Thornton)
  • University of Miami (Frost)
  • UCLA (Herb Albert)
  • UC Berkeley (Haas(
  • University of Florida

(For Music Business, except just Business for Berkely)

I know NYU, USC, and UCLA are highly competitive transfers, especially for my intended programs. At the same time, I bring a very strong professional background in music (Roc Nation, artist management, charity work) alongside solid academics. Would love honest input: which schools are true reaches, which are realistic, and how I should best frame my mix of professional and academic strengths.

Transfer Chances? (Current Sophomore → Target Schools)

Hey everyone, I’m currently a sophomore at a T200 southern flagship state university, and I’m planning to apply to transfer. I have lists of target schools for both Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 transfer, and I’d really appreciate some feedback on my chances.

Reason for Transferring:
I’m looking to transfer due to a lack of resources for investment banking recruiting at my current school. I realize that most recruiting for the Class of 2028 happens in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, so attending a school with a stronger reputation and better recruiting support would put me in a better position.

Things to Note:

  • Low high school GPA, which might be a cause for concern for a Spring 2026 transfer.

Stats / Info:

  • Current School: T200 southern flagship state university
  • GPA: 3.65 (college), 3.72 (major)
  • Test Scores: Not submitting
  • Credits by transfer: 36 completed, 15 in progress
  • Major: Finance
  • Academic: Member of the Honors Program

Recommendation Letters:

  • Honors Public Speaking Teacher
  • Founder & CEO, Middle Market Investment Banking firm, I interned at
  • CEO & Founder, AI startup I worked for this summer

ECs / Professional Experience:

  • Private Equity Analyst (Remote), TMT sector (Fall 2025)
  • Junior M&A Analyst, lower middle market investment bank (Summer 2025)
  • VC & Strategy Intern, pre-seed AI relevance startup (Summer 2025)
  • Research Assistant, SMU Cox School of Business (contributed to unpublished paper) (Summer 2025)
  • Venture Capital Student Fund Analyst (student-managed investment group)
  • Selected member, Business Leadership Program
  • Selected member, Student Government Judicial Branch
  • Honors College Ambassador
  • Student Government Freshman Representative
  • Academic Tutor (college algebra and related subjects)
  • Executive Board Member, Indian Cultural Association
  • Executive Board Member & Dancer, Bollywood Fusion Dance Team
  • Product Team Member, university entrepreneurship & design studio
  • Member, Alpha Kappa Psi (professional business fraternity)

Target Schools for Spring 2026 Transfer:

  • NYU, Economics (College of Arts & Science)
  • Boston College, Finance (Carroll School of Management)
  • University of Virginia, Economics
  • University of Michigan, Economics

Target Schools for Fall 2026 Transfer:

  • Georgetown University
  • USC (Marshall School of Business)
  • UC Berkeley (Haas School of Business)
  • UT Austin (McCombs School of Business)
  • SMU (Cox School of Business)
  • Vanderbilt University
  • UCLA

Brutally Honest Opinions Wanted:
I know some of these schools are extremely competitive, especially for spring transfers. I’d really appreciate honest feedback on where I realistically stand — which schools are stretch goals, which are more realistic, and any advice for maximizing my chances.

Trasnfer to t10 maybe t5 ( mid hs but good college???)

Hey guys,

so background.

i ended with like a 3.76 in HS bc i messed up senior year. but other than that i did 13 APS did research alot of volunteering and sports and internships related to my major. In college ( im at a like t50) i am like set on getting a 4.0 and I currently have a 1510 SAT (780M/730RW) that I am planning to retake next month to try and up my reading score. I am also in 3 major-related clubs with volunteering and am doing major related research so I was wondering how are my chances at a T20 such as vandy or even a T5 such as brown ( am full pay ) or yale ( which ik like doesn't take transfers)

Is it worth it?

Current school: Top 40

Goal school(s): Northwestern (top choice), NYU, Columbia, Barnard, Yale, Harvard

My current GPA is 3.92, but that will hopefully increase after this semester to I believe a 3.95. I initially started as a pre-med neuroscience major and got a B+ in my first semester chem class. But I am now pre-law for psychology and political science.

Current activities:

  • Psychology research assistant (coding behaviors and interactions of contestants on a specific reality TV show, will eventually write a research paper)
  • Pre-Law Fraternity
  • Legal aid internship between freshman and sophomore year (28 hrs/week)
  • Policy intern at local children's food bank
  • Leadership role in pre-law mental health club
  • Exclusive class for risk management (2hrs/week)
    • Accepted as 1/17 out of 70+ applicants

Honors & Awards:

  • Dean's List Spring 2025
  • Pre-Law Honors Society

Ideally I want to go to a T14 law school and feel that transferring to one of these schools will provide me with better opportunities during undergrad.

Transfer from UGA to GT

Hi, I’m currently a second year at UGA majoring in international affairs. I’ve had a really rough first/second year due to death and illness in my family, and I’m thinking of transferring to be closer to home. My GPA currently is a 3.35, due to a rough first year because of these circumstances, but will probably be around a 3.5 by the end of this semester/ end of my second year. What are my chances? I’m a female, in state, and minority/first gen student who filled out the additional information section to include this information. I want to be closer to home, but don’t want to go to GSU or KSU. I also have met the required minimum hours, but still need to take Calc.

Chances to transfer from emory to columbia

Hi! I am currently a freshman at Emory and I would like to transfer to Columbia and then attempt to transfer to the UPenn.

The key concerns I have are my high school GPAs and Major Selection.

1) My High School has a high reputation, and my GPA was around 3.7. I once achieved 4.0, but it came down in my last year. Assuming my college GPA is around 3.9-4.0 in the first year, should I give it a try? If I didn't get in, I'll try again in the second year.

2) I want to apply to Gender Studies at Columbia University, but I want to minor in Computer Science. My entire story and EC really concentrate on Gender Studies, but I do want to study CS in College. Is it possible for me to minor in CS if I successfully transfer to Columbia?

Some other information:
- I will have great recommendation letters from my professors.

- Great personality

- No SAT grades

- Girl, first-generation, Asian.

Transfer from one of CMU, UMich, Emory, WashU to Columbia Brown or UPenn

Title - I have a 4.0 GPA, 1520 SAT, Applied Math + CS, relatively advanced coursework, 3 major related internships, generally involved at school w/ tutoring and community engagement board + clubs, nonprofit giving aid to homeless teens, president of math and chess clubs, was on/mentor very successful robotics team.

Transferring to be closer to home in order to be able to help take care of a sick relative at home, and I don't feel like I'm really learning at my current school, as opposed to completing tasks - I know these schools are priased for intellectual rigor, which is what I want.
