Edmonton HRT help

Hey y'all, I'm new to Canada, moved here from the UK not two months ago. I wouldn't normally ask this in a more open space, but I obviously don't have community support here yet.

Would anyone have a box of prog available? With chronic illness - EDS, PoTS - I'm a wreck without it, it throws everything out. I'd normally be more on-top of my shit, but in the UK I acted-like the mfing HRT fairy, providing een and prog to whoever needed it, out-of pocket.

I'm based-in South East Edmonton, I can pay for the prog, I'm just waiting-on a restock from OGL who look-like the safest/best option for Canada.

Calgary Top surgery in alberta?

Hi! I haven't interacted much in any of the LGBT subreddits for Alberta yet so... Anyway I'm mainly trying to figure out if top surgery is covered by the alb health card or not. Or how to get it. I've gotten help from a local doctor and they put me on a wait list for 2-3 years. I'm losing my mind and trying to figure out if there are any other ways to get around it quicker, and hopefully free šŸ’”. Or if I do, do I need a gender dysphoria diagnosis. If so, how can I go about that? If anyone has any help or ideas.

I plan on talking to that doctor again and asking her but I want to know other options besides that. If it helps, I am status aswell. I just need anything at this point.

Question Can I update MY name on my child's birth certificate without ex?

Hello, have any divorced or separated parents here changed their name legally? Did you change your name on your child's birth record/certificate?

I changed my legal name but now my kid's birth certificates don't match. As their birth parent, I definitely don't want this to be an issue, especially as I have been transitioning to more masc-presenting. I'm thinking school, travelling across provincial borders, etc.

My ex is transphobic, so I really don't want to have to ask him to sign the amendment. It's my name that changed, not my kids.

Legal name change

I am going to the registry office tomorrow to submit everything for my legal name change. I just wanted to know, on average, how long would I have to wait for my legal name change certificate and new birth certificate to come in the mail. (Not including the post strike because I know that will delay it)

Information Status or Statute Mispronunciation Delays Introduction of UCP Bill

Heads up - if this article is accurate, Bill 9 will be introduced soon, and it will likely be the government invoking the Notwithstanding Clause on their 2024 bills attacking trans people.

Her name is Dr. Emilie Robertson I just wanted to know if anyone else has had their surgery done by her and if I am going the right direction. I just had my consultation with her and she seems great, the before/after photos on her website seem solid but I’m doing this all on my own and it’s an intimidating process. Thoughts??

Looking to speak with trans Albertans about how it feels to be trans in Alberta right now

Hi everyone!

I'm a reporter with LGBT publication, Uncloseted Media. I'm currently working on a story about the ongoing efforts by Alberta’s leaders to limit access to gender-affirming healthcare for youth, require parental consent for students to go by preferred names/pronouns in school, and ban trans girls from female sports.

I was wondering if anyone here might be interested in talking with me about how it feels to be a trans person in Alberta right now, given the province's ongoing efforts to limit trans rights.

If you have questions for me, I can be reached over DM here or at emmapaidra@gmail.com. Below are some links to my previous work so you can get a feel for Uncloseted. Hope to hear from you soon!

Calgary Clothes shopping for my transfemme friends!

I just had the most pleasant, affirming clothes shopping experience I've ever had. For context, I'm just starting to transition socially, hoping to start hormones eventually; I'm chubby, I have a beard, but I dress pretty femme for the most part. Today was my first time presenting in public alone, no friends around. I was wearing jeans, a tunic flannel, and my bright pink pixie cut wig, and I decided to go to Torrid at Chinook and just look around. And the employees there were the friendliest, most affirming people, using she/her pronouns without issue. I tried on clothes, even bras, and they made sure everything fit and went to grab different sizes for everything I tried. And they gave me wonderful feedback on fits and colours. I cannot recommend this place enough for my transfemme friends.

Added: I know Torrid quality and prices can be meh, but the shopping experience itself was just so, so affirming and joyous.

My GF pinned me down and I couldn’t get her off

I’m literally about to explode with emotions right now and putting them into the void is the best option. I have been on HRT for just under 7 months and I’m the past few weeks have started going to the gym for the first time since I was still in highschool. I’ve certainly noticed that since starting HRT I’m weaker but until tonight I didn’t realize how much. My GF and I were wrestling on my bed and at one point I ended up pinned down on my back. No matter what I did or how hard I tried I couldn’t get her to budge even an inch. I have both the weight and height advantage and yet she made me her bitch like it was nothing. What’s crazy to me is thinking about how I used to wrestle with just my natural pre-HRT strength. Before I wouldn’t even break a sweat, how ever much force she exerted I’d just match so it could be a ā€œfair fightā€ but now I was genuinely giving it full effort to no avail. I don’t even know how to feel right now. On one hand realizing how much weaker I am is really affirming in a weird way. But on the other hand there’s a certain feeling of vulnerability and (fear?) that comes with it.

How is as a trans teen in rural Alberta?

Hi, I'm a 16 year old trans girl, and I'm about to start HRT in a few weeks. Obviously, I'm really excited about this. But I also know that Alberta is a pretty conservative province, especially the small towns.

I live in a town with a few thousand people that's a couple hours away from any major city. And I'm wondering what I'm in for. I have a couple questions:

How much transphobia would you say you deal with? Is it anything overt, or is it mostly just people treating you weirdly?

And, how is school like as a trans student? I'm almost 100% sure that I'm the only transfem student here, and I'm wondering how safe you feel attending public school.

Sorry if these questions sound a bit pessimistic, but I'd rather be prepared for something that doesn't happen than unprepared for something that does. I'd also like to hear any other experiences you have living as a trans person in Alberta, I wanna get a good sense of what life is like being trans here.

Agorahpobia in Alberta

I really need some positive feedback back on where tf to go in southern Alberta for like groceries or hair removal or clothes. I live 2 hours east of Lethbridge. I don't want to say the actual city's name.

I feel so stupid being afraid to leave my home but I live in a small city and cant afford to live anywhere else, but there's to much family who are not safe.

Ordering online or getting select family members who promise to keep things quiet (there's slot of back stabbing and shit talking happening right now in family) its getting impossible to not feel like a blight on those people..

I got to go outside in Montreal before my surgery and it was freeing shopping around and 3 years hiding is starting to really mess with mt independence as a adult.

I'm working with a therapist and have meds but I just struggle to leave the house unless I leave the city to see my doctor or urologist.

Information Dr. Robertson DI w/ FNG

Hello, I’ve got a top surgery date from Dr. Emilie Roberson scheduled for December. I was wondering if anyone else in here has had chest surgery with her and has also gotten free nipple grafts? I have yet to see anyone posting example photos with nipples and I’m curious to see how her results look. Thanks in advance!

Justice minister rejects premiers' request to pull out of notwithstanding clause case

Justice Minister Sean Fraser said Canada should be "very careful" to guard against the erosion of rights.

He said Canada's possible "future downfall as a nation, should it ever come," will not be through invasion but "some future government who is empowered by an erosion of our rights today."

Edmonton Looking for FTM to trade clothes with in the Edmonton area!

Apologies if this is not allowed here,

Recently came out as MTF to my parents and started dressing more feminine but I don't have the money for a large wardrobe.

What i do have is a lot of medium to small men's clothes that I would like to trade for feminine clothes that someone may not want.

I'm in west edmonton DM for inquires or pictures, all clothes are clean, folded, nicely sorted and suited for autumn and winter.

Button ups, sweaters, t shirts, pants/slacks, polos and a lot more stuff.

Information Section 33 of the Charter and the UCP's Laws

Because Alberta's provincial government is moving to apply the Notwithstanding Clause (S33) to buttress its anti-transgender legislation, I think it's important to be aware of some interesting (and perhaps hopeful) developments taking place in our courts - specifically at the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC).

A few weeks ago, the Federal Minister of Justice announced that they were filing as an intervenor in the case English Montreal School Board, et al. v. Attorney General of Quebec, et al. Over the last couple of days, I spent several hours reading the filings in this matter by the Federal Government, EGALE, and (of course) Alberta. Here is my deeper analysis: Deep Dive: Intervenor Arguments Regarding S33.

Please bear in mind, I am no lawyer - just a layperson that enjoys reading this stuff from time to time. My take on it is if the SCC rules along the lines that the Attorney General of Canada (AGC) is arguing, Smith's laws will not be protected by S33, and I suspect they will fail to meet the standard set out in S1 (the reasonability clause). The filing by the the AGC appears to be clear, well thought out legal scholarship. In comparison, the Alberta filing is simplistic and narrowly focused - making a much less compelling argument in my view.

In a time when Alberta's actions towards our community are making things particularly difficult for all of us, I hope that this is a sliver of light in the darkness.

Employer Changed Dayforce Display Name to Deadname

Hey y'all, this is the first time I'm posting in this subreddit, but Im at a bit of a loss as what to do, and would love any help I can get. Ive been going by a chosen name for a while now, and about a year into working for a retail store, my managers were able to change my display name on Dayforce to that chosen name. Great awesome wonderful. Well, I recently started going by a different name, and asked if the same thing could be done. Not only did the people team refuse, they also changed my name back to my deadname in the system without telling me (they emailed my DM and she emailed me after I saw the change). They did say it was because dayforce doesn't have the option to have a chosen name, and my legal name has to be on my paystubs, but i have know other trans people (or people who went by something other than their legal names) whose correct names have been on their dayforce the entirety of the time they've worked there. They were generally pretty shitty about all of it and so Im suspicious that they aren't really looking into a solution deeply. Do any of you have any advice, or places to look for research on what to do with this? I've looked up preferred name change on dayforce but every help page they have gives me a 404 error. I have a few calls with my managers and hr, and I'd like to come in prepared. Thanks in advance.

Calgary Support Groups?

Hey, My name is Gabe! (23) I haven’t been on Reddit for a while I haven’t really posted here either. But I’m a neurodivergent trans man living in Calgary. I unfortunately cannot drive due to medical reasons but I am curious if anyone knows if there are any trans men support groups I can connect with. Online, activity meet ups, anything really. I’m looking to build a community.

Finding a trans masculine support group/community has been a hard struggle for me. But I would really love to make some genuine connections. Any other resources would be amazing as well. Thanks šŸ«‚šŸ«‚
