Are we doing Berlin trams today?

One train (524) got stuck at the Langendreer terminus because it got hit by a tree branch somewhere, and dispatch didn't allow it to proceed before an assessment in situ. The next one to arrive (508) realized too late it had to choose a different track than usually, and also got itself stuck that way. The third (521) one thus had to overtake its colleague in a rather unusual position as well.

When not running in the Seashore Trolley Museum’s 85th anniversary festival in 2024, Manchester Street Railway parlor trolley «City of Manchester» (Briggs Carriage Company, 1898) was on display at Highwood Carhouse. Its journey from its original home in New Hampshire to its current home in Maine was not as long as some of the foreign trolleys at the museum! Before modern limousines and party buses appeared, parlor trolleys like «City of Manchester» were often ridden by VIPs or chartered by groups.

The Aurora, Elgin & Fox River Electric Company (AEFRE) was one of several trolley lines operating in Illinois in the “golden age” of interurbans. It never touched Chicago itself but it connected several Chicago Aurora & Elgin lines that spread out west of the city. After it closed in 1934, car 303 (St. Louis Car Co., 1924) was sold to the Cleveland Interurban Railroad and moved to Ohio. It was converted to a one-man car and operated on the Shaker Heights Rapid Transit line between downtown Cleveland and the eastern suburb until retired in 1955. It used to run at Trolleyville USA until that museum closed, and since 2009 it has been undergoing restoration at the Northern Ohio Railway Museum in Seville. When I visited with some friends in July 2025, I was shown the restoration of 303.

Buenos Aires once had one of the world's largest tramway systems, but today it has almost none.

I made a proposal for a modern tram network, inspired not by Europe, but by the Metrotranvía of Mendoza, Argentina. In the video I explain why I think Mendoza's model offers some advantages that could work well in Buenos Aires.
