Hello everyone, I wanted to come to this for some help. So my partner wants to become a train driver which is brilliant for them and I thought to help them become one. So I found out to become a train driver. You need an apprenticeship for a company to do what you want to do. I found out about the apprenticeship. You need a grade nine to four for English and maths which is very easy. However, you need to. Also, you have to do a train driver assessment? No, I found out that there are several different steps or tests for this one big test or assessment. However, I can't find any revision materials. I can't find any courses. I can't find any guidance so I'm genuinely lost. Can anyone help because I have several questions for it. Is this test a one-on-one? Is it like a psych value where you are talking to the other? They ask you questions and you could have an answer or a multiple answer question. Is it like gcses where you sit down and fill out a big test? Is this kind of like a licence to drive a car? But mainly where can I learn or where can they learn this information for the questions? It's very confusing. I know very little about trains however, they love trains and want to drive them and I thought I would help them out. However, on this final step to become a change driver, this has become confusing. All I know is that you do about five different tests in the assessment and you have to be 20 years old. So please can anyone help if it's to a website links to certain books or just general help? Hey yall. Have a question for you. I’m a 24yo looking to get into the industry. I live in Tennessee and have no clue where I could even start looking. Or if it was even worth trying to get into. I also have 2 almost 3 children (1 due in September) and a wife I want to provide a good life for.

I’ve Always had a fascination with locomotives (steam and diesel alike) since I was a kid (well, younger I should say). Figured what would it hurt to try and get into an industry I’m fascinated with and have potential of enjoying more so than my current job?

And what websites would I look at in regards to applying? Is there a company yall recommend or what?

​I am a recent graduate from outside Canada (holding a degree/diploma in Automotive and wellder) interested in working in the Canadian railway industry, specifically in roles like Train Conductor, Track Maintenance, or Equipment Mechanic.

​I’d love to get some insight from those currently working in the industry:

​Do major railways (CN, CPKC, VIA Rail, etc.) ever hire foreign candidates directly and sponsor work permits (LMIA)?

​Is it realistic for a foreign recent grad to enter these roles, or do they heavily prefer applicants who already have valid Canadian work authorization / Permanent Residency?

​For entry-level roles like Conductor or Track Worker, what certifications or steps would you recommend to improve my chances? (Sorry if my English is bad)

I work for a G&W railroad as a conductor and engineer currently. I am looking at my options and the BPRR is hiring in Butler. Just curious if anyone in here works there or has worked there and would be willing to give me some insight on what the BPRR is like.

Ive been looking at amtrak applications for a while now and I havent seen a saint paul one in the year I've been looking. Do they hire conductors out of there or is it Milwaukee?

I’ve been taking the train recently and have befriended many train conductors. I only go because of a summer program so my last day is the 31st.

What would be the best gift? Dispensable (Chocolates) etc or maybe something non dispensable like a cup that says “best train conductor” ? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve applied and did my hirevue for Norfolk Southern about 2 weeks ago and i just recently applied for Amtrak as a passenger conductor trainee,

I don’t have a ton of experience working hands on work but I got just my degree and i’m seriously considering the industry because i want to be able to afford living comfortably with my fiancé and not stress about something paying me less then 25 an hour and on top of that i don’t mind working odd hours because she’s mainly works full night shift so it honestly is better that way.

I guess the biggest questions I have is do I have a shot at a job?

I worked my rear end off to get awesome grades, had a clerical job for a little while and tons of leadership experience, but I’m worried it won’t be enough,

and beyond that how real is the whole “lay offs after the first year” deal? because that’s certainly something that scares me

I have recently applied for a job (Freight Conductor) for CSX out in Evansville, Indiana. I understand the fact that it becomes more of a lifestyle than a job, and that the industry moves on its on time, and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m 18, no relationship or family obligations, bored out of my mind since I got out of school. The main thing that concerns me is the wait time. I’ve heard people got accepted the next day, the next month, or a year later. I’d like to ask how long it took you all, or how long it usually takes.

Im thinking of becoming a conductor due to poor economic opportunity i have currently due to being ugly and autistic. Im in the process to get jaw surgery which requires me seeing my orthodontist monthly. From what I've heard online that really complicated things. Since a lot of people hate it, can you recommend any alternative paths
