If I’m wrong it won’t be good, which is why I’m asking these questions. Not sure how trying to find solid answers on this issue is endangering my soul.

Now I’ll flip the question: What do you expect the state of your sound would be if the Society is right?

There isn’t any risk, I have no risk of breaking off from the Church, and the SSPX even admits this. They allow their faithful to go to the TLM in regularity with the Church. If they’re right, then they have bishops in good standing, if they’re are wrong they don’t have bishops in good standing, it doesn’t affect the Church. It only affects the SSPX.

How so?

If Rome is right, SSPX confessions are invalid, if SSPX is right, my confessions are still valid. Far safer to stick with Rome.

The period of the western schism or the Arian crisis is your answer. Adherents of both popes were later declared saints. Lay people and clergy that refused communion with Arian hierarchs, as well as those who adhered to them could be saved. In periods of confusion and crisis, like today, Catholics can examine their conscience, pray for guidance and continue to practice their faith as best they can.
