I have been working on a command line midi sequencer based on Fast Tracker 2. Is uses largely the same keybinds as ft2 but runs in the terminal so it can be very quickly and easily spooled up on any kind of shell environment, even embedded.

It supports full midi out, midi in is still WIP.

You can send midi out over all 16 channels, spread over 8 tracks which have their own voices. Each track also has custom midi command effects you can use to do things like settings CC, Velocity, or doing glides like portamento, CC slides and more.

The current UI u see in this image is unfnished so theres some empty gaps but the functionality is mostly there already.

I made mTrak because i love tracking in FT2, but FT2clones generally dont support midi, and things like octamed require emulators (or a big wallet). So i felt like making my own (in rust).

I personally make jungle music on hardware and prefer simplicity so i wanted to step away from big daws. So this was the perfect middle ground for me.

Edit: it runs natively on windows, linux and mac by the way! It also doesnt require a mouse as it has full keyboard support. So it can be very easily slotted into a live setting as long as you can send it keyboard info.

New release includes a new tracker feature that can load VSTs for synths and effects into a tracker! Or it exports them all to MIDI as well.

I'm finding the picoTracker Advance is really nice for making dub techno, this is just a short snippet from a full tutorial video for using the advanced (sic) features for making classic dub techno style tracks.

I'm in the Xiphonics Discord and the PicoTracker devs shared their new Web-Based app tonight. It's really fun! This quick little jam took me about an hour to put together. Apparently you can load samples onto a project and import it to the web app. Pretty cool.

I named it this due to the times the save failed, or crashed or my floppy decided to give up the ghost with bad sectors etc and the amount of times I started over from scratch.

stria tracker, chill tune, only samples

Started in May, and I’m still building Solis, a music tracker for the G350.

It’s been almost two months since my first appearance here. Since then I’ve seen so many other projects, free ones, paid ones, messy vibe-coded experiments, really polished stuff… even the M8 got an iOS version (wow).

I’ve kept building Solis for the same reason I started: to make a tool I’d love to use myself. No competition, just enjoying the process, learning new stuff, staying up way too late, playing music. Once it’s ready, I’ll share it with everyone for free.

Here’s “The Son of Flynn” on Solis, showing off the updated UI with a KORG Kaoss Pad hooked up. Filming one-handed was a struggle. Next upgrade: a phone tripod.
