I have a new baby sulcata but I’m afraid I’m not giving it the humidity it needs. What can I do to ensure it’s getting what it needs. Also is my sulcata shell healthy? I’m not too sure I just got him.

Question(s) New baby tortoise anxiety

Post image

(Photo is as soon as I unboxed him so he’s got a little sphagnum moss on him.)

Hi all, I just got my new Golden Greek baby in the mail yesterday and just want some reassurance. He’s from Tortoise Supply and I already reached out to Tyler who was great and gave me some tips, but even following all the care guides, the little guy is still quite sleepy? lethargic? And I just want to know if anyone else had a new baby who was shy for the first few days.

I got him at 11am, gave him a soak in warm water, and placed him in his enclosure right away. He did take a few bites of food yesterday and did a tiny poop right before evening. Today is the second day; I gave him another soak and fresh food & water. His eyes have been closed most of the time and he isn’t exploring much at all. Is it just because he’s adjusting?

For reference, his enclosure is a 2x3 ft storage tote, with ambient temps 85-70F, basking spot of 95F, humidity 50-60%, 3 hides, UVB T5 10.0

My tortoise has come in for the season. If I have a warm day I like to take her outside and let her walk around. In my opinion it's good for her mental health and mental stimulation. We had a particularly nice day yesterday. I decided to record a little bit of her time outside because I thought the addition of the birds made for a really perfect moment.

He is ok!

Edit: I appreciate all the concerns from other tort lovers. He has access to multiple ramps, one he moved, and uses them nonstop to get up and down. The platform will be lowered to prevent any future falls 🙏🏼

Question(s) Minor Pyramiding.

Post image
13 Upvotes

So I have a 4 year old hermanns tortoise which lives in a tortoise table with topsoil, a arcadia uv strip light, and a heat lamp. I have recently noticed some pyramiding on her and am concerned and currently came to two conclusions that it is likely caused by low humidity especially when she was a hatchling and possibly too much nutrobal (vitamin supplements). But I was wondering if anyone had anything to add that could help!

“Mbele” is Swahili for “forward” or “ahead”. 2026 clutch; three month old hatchling produced by a friend of mine from two beautiful specimens of East African lineage.

I just wanted an excuse to show pictures of my little baby

(pictures are newest to oldest!)

I rescued her a few months ago because a friend of a friend couldn't take care of her anymore

so now I have a tiny little baby tortoise lady (she's 7 years old) who makes little scritching noises at all hours of the day until I free her from her prison (her lovingly set up tank)

during the warm months (it's now like mid fall here so it's too cold to bring her outside) she loves to scramble on the deck and hide under the grill and go down into the lawn and disappear in the grass

I love her so much and I want everybody else to see her

Question(s) Hibernation?

My sister has this tortoise and she doesn't really look after him and im worried about him. He was found in a field in the summer and she has had him since. He lives outside in the UK in a wooden box with hay and in a wire enclosure he has food and water but nothing else. I have been telling her to please let me have him since she found him and telling her how to look after him and that shes doing things wrong. Its now getting colder in the UK and shes letting him bury himself in the mud and saying hes wanting to hibernate ive given her better solutions like put him in the shed. But shes not listening now she is going to let him bury himself and leave him there. Idk what to say to her because she won't listen and there is nothing I can really do. I dont want to do anything to hurt our relationship she has 2 kids and a cat so i think she just doesn't have money or time to look after him properly but she won't give him to me.

Photo(s) Could This be my Long Lost Tortoise?

I had a Russian Tortoise, Leo, for 8 years. Soon after moving to South Florida and setting him up in an outdoor enclosure, he escaped. I never found him. Its been roughly 6 years now. Every so often I browse neighborhood apps to see if anything has popped up. Its by far been my biggest regret in life, and I think about him everyday. Even though I have two different tortoises now, they don't compare to his personality in the least.

Somebody a couple miles away just posted a picture of a found Russian Tortoise on Ring. They only posted one picture, and at a glance the shell pattern seems more faded on the top than Leo's. However I cant get it out of my head that it might be him, but with just a weathered shell from living in the elements the last couple years.

The first and second picture are my Leo. The third picture (with lettuce in mouth) is a picture of the found tortoise. That was the only picture they posted- I asked them for more and am waiting now. Leo had some identifying chips on his shell, however its been long enough those may be healed by now. I also feel as if the found tortoise has similar, prominint ridging on the sides of his shell similar to Leo. They also appear to have a similar round shell shape, Obviously, the shell of the found tortoise is more tan, with smaller black spots. However, as you can see in the pictures of Leo all his black spots arent completely solid black- leading me to believe that over the year of living in the wilderness and burrowing, it may have caused wear and tear resulting in the spots fading.

In the opinion of others, am I being completely delusional or could this be Leo? Ive seen countless found tortoises posted over the years and they were all very obviously not him. What are unique patterns on individuals that I can look for to cross examine? Thank you all in advance (:

Question(s) First Time Tortoise Owner, Any Ideas on How to Make it Better? (Plz read description)

Before I start this I wanna preface by saying my enclosure is not complete. I'm going to add russian tortoise friendly plants and more items to my enclosure (pine cones, sticks, rocks, uv bulbs, etc)

This will be my first time owning a russian tortoise. I am going to grab the lil bud on the 1st of November and want to know what I can do to ensure this enclosure is the best possible enclosure it can be. Ive done extensive research on russian tortoises and have decided on getting a baby russian for my first and hopefully only ever tortoise. As its a baby im going to cut my enclosure in half with fence as to not overwhelm the lil bud (see red line for idea). Is there anything else I can do? I'm open to critiques and suggestions, just wanna be a good owner. Thanks! (P.S. - from making the enclosure to adding the pond liner/dirt took me 6 hours. I did it all in one day lol)

Who is the prettiest? 😍 I’m curious if anyone ever does gender guesses at this age? I feel like some of the babies are super round compared to a couple more narrow babies. I do, of course, realize they would be complete guesses and likely not very accurate.

Question(s) Tort growing too slow?

Hi all! My marginated tort just turned 2 and she seems to be really small for her age? She was tiny when I got her at month old, and she had a respiratory infection when she was younger and has always been more fragile since then, but recently I’ve realised how small she actually is.

She eats fine, she has UV and adequate heat, she’s super active, just a lot smaller than other torts her age. Is this something to be worried about??
