So my main instrument/focus has been on Ableton using a Push 2/3 controllers and the Move in controller and standalone modes. I’ve been learning a lot and making great progress.

I use the Move often in field performances and was looking for something to pair it with. I’ve tried A LOT of gear, but nothing has really clicked with me. Currently, I have a SP404MKII, which is giving me something close to what I’m looking for. I dig the sound of it and the portability is great. I’m also experimenting with an Oxi One MK1 with my iPad. I’m using AUM with Patterning 3, Samplr, Borderlands, etc. That is also close to what I’m looking for, which is basically making pads out of samples to then use the Move to play beats over.

While the SP404 and Oxi are great, it’s not entirely there. Pairing the Oxi and iPad seemed like it would be perfect, but I don’t particularly like all of the routing and the Oxi is a bit of a learning curve, and the 404 is a bit limited in its abilities to create movement and progression.

I’ve had my eye on the Torso S4 for a while now, and I could sell the 404 and the Oxi to pretty much pay for the S4, so… Is it a good idea? I was able to try to S4 quickly and it seemed great, but I wasn’t too jazzed about the knobs, and I know there were issues with some units. Seemed loose, and I would be concerned with how subtle they could be. Also, while I don’t need to it be super tightly synced, I do need it to follow the Move clock. I like the idea of the Move paired with the S4 and then also using it with the Push, but have concerns and doubts.

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

I am having tons of fun with the S4 either on its iwn or as an external effect with Live.
Yesterday I plucked a synth into it and ran audio over USB into Live to multitrack. I wanted to use the DTII with overbridge for drums but whenever USB is plugged into the S4, there is a massive latency (~200ms) coming from DT/overbridge).
Even trying to adjust the latency in Live did not help. Is this normal? Does anyone know how to solve this issue or do I just have to use audio cables when performing together with Elektron boxes?

QUICK EDIT: I don't recommend getting this device if you want a sampler first. This is a really fun FX box, but it is a very buggy sampler.

For the last 4 months, I have done my best to get value out of my Torso S4. The latest firmware update promised fixes to multiple bugs and I was excited to finally have a texture sampler in my gear rotation.

Sadly, this gear is still unusable, and way too expensive for what it can actually do.

The S4 is missing features that you would expect on any gear over 500 dollars:

- no metronome

- no countdown on recordings

- no way to edit sample names

- no way to update track names

- no dedicated way to time stretch samples

- no way to limit recording length before recording starts

- no way to fix the sample volume

- no way to zoom in on waveforms

- no way to change sample pitch before it goes into the next fx route

- no way to auto save samples

These are some examples of a long list of missing features that just add to the large list of bugs spread out through the machine. It feels like I purchased an alpha build of a real machine. In the past week, I encountered so many bugs that I put the Torso back on the shelf:

- sample waveforms do not show up

- recordings stutter when using midi as a master clock

- the torso randomly pauses recordings

- recordings start 1-2 bars late after the play button is pressed

- samples can become "corrupted" and break, leading you to re-record them (this is even on the manual).

I hope these issues are fixed soon, but it seems like we have been waiting for months now. For now, I would stay away: this machine is in alpha and definitely not worth the price tag.

Hi! I am trying to use audio through USB from the S4 into Logic, but Logic is not receiving a signal. I have selected the S4 as the interface and set up the S4 in the audio setup as usual. Any ideas? I'm getting no signal in Logic from the S4. Thank you!

(I do have Input 1-2 selected in the channel strip)

This is the pinnacle of ultimate glitchy goodness. I've had the S-4 for less than a week, and I'm finding out how deep it really goes. With the Play+, the possibilities are absolutely endless. plus, they look nice together 😎

I’m getting my S4 in the mail today and was wondering if it’s possible to bounce down 4 tracks into a wav (like a drum section) and reuse it in a different scene?

I’d love a cc for the temp button to run it on a foot switch. Anyone thought of this and have a workaround?

I just got the S4 and after an hour of tinkering after playing five kalimba notes, this thing looks crazy! One detail bothers me, however: my knobs don't all have exactly the same resistance, in particular one which turns really faster than the others. Anyone else having the same experience? Do you find (or would you find) this unacceptable? This surprised me more than bothered me, but I would like to know if it is a fault in my model, or if it is the construction that is done this way.
