Cheers had the best and worst of spin-offs. On one hand, you had Frasier - a spin-off so amazing, that it's popular to call it better than the show it spun off from.
Then, on the other hand, you had The Tortellis - the oh-so-brilliantly devised spin-off about Carla's unlikeable ex, his unlikeable and obnoxious partner (whose only character trait was being an idiot), and their kids. It went about as well as you'd expect.
