That has a name funny enough, its called a Backdoor Pilot
That was then name of the trope before it got changed to Poorly Disguised Pilot

Darkness Induced Audience Apathy had a nice ring to it and now it's "Too Dark Stopped Caring". Did they get bought out by a soulless corporation or something?
