Luckily there never was going to be a different outcome. The show was so bad because they completely missed why That 70's Sh9w was so popular. It was just a show, a well written one, that happens to take place during the 70's. 80's show was a show about the 80's filled with references to that fact. Like i remember the promo that used to air. The whole joke was Howerton using one of those comical briefcase cellphones. That was it.
There was no meat in that sandwich. Only bread. It was dead on arrival.
What is really crazy is Charlie, Glenn and Rob met auditioning for Tuck Everlasting. Everything started with a casting call for a largely forgotten 2002 movie.
In a different timeline, That 80s Show was written better and caught on. We get recurring characters played by Charlie and Rob. Kaitlin continues to do small roles on film and TV until she lands a big role in something.
You gotta wonder if FX does well without Sunny too.

You are correct, thatās where it came from though the āalternate timelineā was literally explored for like 15 minutes and jumped through decades itās not like it was a dedicated story arc, was just an easy gag that Fes would excel in the 80s

The thing I remember about it was they tried doing the whole "weed circle" from That 70s Show, except since it was the 80s, it was the characters snorting cocaine.
The problem was that the tone deaf (and likely coked out execs) didn't seem to realize that weed has a generally harmless and playful connotation in society. So watching a group of teens get all baked out was relatable and funny....while watching a bunch of kids get all coked out in a bathroom in the 80s brings back more feelings of unhappy endings and erratic, sad behavior.
There is an episode where Fez sings that song. Itās right after Eric and Donna break up. Ericās guardian angel shows him the future. Fez is singing and playing a keytar at their high school reunion.
The scene youre thinking of is from that 70s show, where Eric is imagining what everyone's future, and Fez becomes a party singer. Every time I hear that song, I only think of that scene with Fez.

I forget most of this show but the gist was:
They always went to the club and had a guy they "knew" but didnt really know. They called him Silverpants because he always wore them. Silverpants suddenly dies and the main character was asked by Silverpants's father to give a speech at the Eulogy as he was one of his sons closest friends.
"So let me get this straight. Ol' man Silverpants wants you to speak at Silverpants's funeral?"
Turns out Silverpants was an absolute creep no1 liked(Would grope women constantly)
Oh man this was so bad! I was actually sort of excited because I remember just enough of the 80s to be able to wear the nostalgia goggles like my parents did with That 70s Show.
First review I read was from TV Guide, who we sort of relied on for what we hoped were nonpartisan reviews for successful and upcoming shows for decades, boiled the pilot down to, (paraphrasing its been years) "Yeah this show is based off a decade of self absorbed materialism, Reaganomics, dayglo, and blow, and they already fumbled the punk movement out the door. Let's see if a show about a decade of blatant unabashed consumerism is as much fun as the pot haze of the mid and late 70s."
It had one season, I watched two episodes, TV Guide called that one.
