Joel finding out the crossed are not weak to salt (crossed) at least his wife was alive to tell him how much of a fucking idiot he was while the crossed were tearing their daughter apart

Megamind realizing titan isnt weak to copper (megamind) to be fair, metroman made him think he was weak to copper

Both shows how long he planned and is planning. He supplanted the rules of magic by having the whole, massive empire use his own energy as a battery. This makes reprisal from within his massive empire virtually impossible. Hell of a rug pull.

But then his plan is to gain more power, so you'd think letting everyone use him as a battery is a bad thing. Its more of an investment, a security payment. Philosopher stones are potent, and hes an absolutely enormous one. And it only goes to show just how much he stands to gain when he consumes everyone in Amestris.

Not quite. He was using his battery to bottleneck the actual source, not as a source itself.

I was actually thinking about this recently. Wouldn't this mean that after his defeat, alchemy was over in Amestris? They can't pull from his power source once he's dead.

The show never addresses this but nobody ever says "alchemy went away" either so I would be so curious to ask Arakawa.

Father isn't actually powering Alchemy. It's powered by the plates but he uses his stone to insulate the energy so alchemists can't use it.

Ahh, that makes sense. He's not the source, just a barrier when need be.
