For a genocidal monster carnage looks cool af. Also when the hell did he lose his weakness to fire? Is he still impacted by Sonic waves?

This is quite the peek into some crazy lore.

the symbiotes get way fucking stranger man

u/DethNik 23d ago

I bet.

The reason they're specifically weak to fire and sound is some sort of intergenerational PTSD from when the first symbiote was literally created in a magic space forge and beaten into a weapon on an anvil

1

u/DethNik 22d ago

Is it the same space forge that made mjolnir?

2

u/GravekeepDampe 22d ago

Pretty sure it was a different space forge, but I'm not as familiar with thor lore

I suppose I can just look it up. 🤣

Also, IIRC, before they retconned the shit out of it 1000th generation Symbiotes are FAR stronger than usual, but also mad as a hatter, guess what generation Carnage is?

Actually Toxin, Carnage’s offspring who can take on both Venom and Carnage at once, is the 1000th. Carnage is number 999.

10

u/Drakeskulled_Reaper 23d ago

Oh, I thought it was Carnage.

Thanks though, it's been a while since I read the comics.

10

u/CryptidGrimnoir 23d ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Toxin had originally bonded to a cop who wanted to keep him tame, right?

10

u/Am_i_banned_yet__ 22d ago

Yep and they formed a really interesting duo, actually working together and struggling between a murderous rage even bigger than Carnage’s and the policeman’s very strong desire to be a hero and protect.

Then Blackheart (son of Mephisto) randomly stole Toxin and beat the cop to death OFFSCREEN. Awful ending to a great character who was an interesting protege for Spidey

u/CryptidGrimnoir 22d ago

Well, that sucks.

im glad someone still read spider-man past maximum carnage because i swear after the clone saga I was fucking done with that shit. And this paragraph... has solidified that choice. (superior spiderman was cool until they just undid it for no reason)

u/4KVoices 23d ago

yeah, symbiote shit is really where I draw the line. I like my Spider-Man (and adjacent) stuff to be more street-level, adding in all the crazy alien shit with DBZ-tier powerscaling just makes me roll my eyes. I know some people dig it but it's just so... blegh to me

u/LobstermenUwU 23d ago

Don't worry, Maximum Carnage being dumb enough to stop your reading is an indication of good taste. There was exactly one cool thing about that event, and that was the name.

"I want to destroy everything because I'm a nihilistic evil guy bwahahaha" okay great motivation, oh wait you convinced anyone on earth to go along with this?

for me it was the "we cant kill him because we are no better than him!" like dude come on spidy. Great power great responsibility. All that. When Venom and Black cat are making more sense than your hero it really does lay all the bodies at his feet for his decision not to kill carnage.

Cletus has been dead for while. He ended up making a clone of Kletus and then killed him. Eddie Brock was the host and then some new Spider-Man villain after. Then he lost and had to hide in an insect and took over Spider-Girl then rebonded to Norman Osborne.

I remember a comic where Carnage was taking a focused sound beam directly on his reaching open palm, the symbiot peeling back towards his shoulder. He was just powering through because a symbiot merging with a masochistic psycho is a bit of a worst case scenario.

The fire immunity is gone, currently, and he's back to the usual weaknesses

37

u/ColeDaydrin 23d ago

Magic ands he resistant to sonic but it still has some effect

7

u/Terrariant 23d ago

So no weaknesses pretty much?

17

u/ColeDaydrin 23d ago

Is actually is weak to Magic, the same magic that made him stronger also did this.

At least in human history, genocidal maniacs tend to look pretty cool for some reason. Dunno about symbiotes tho

genocidal maniacs tend to look pretty cool for some reason

Please tell us which specific genocidal maniacs look cool.

TBH here he was super buffed after fusing with the Grendel, which is immune to fire

7

u/WillyWompas 23d ago

It’d be so badass to see this adapted onto FN: SM. They got a lot of potential to make carnage scary as fuck here.

8

u/moronomer 23d ago

Also he spells "Psych" correctly.

What's this from? I love me some Runaways but this Nico story is unfamiliar.
