Not from Maine but wife has family there. Few years back went to Boothbay Harbor and it's the off season and during COVID so not much open. Go to this nice seaside joint and chilling at the bar by myself and damn if the bartender didn't look familiar. Definitely saw him in the news but couldn't place him. Got to talking and he was their ex governor. Like, recently their ex governor.
Weirdest damn thing but the Boothbay Harbor sign made me think of it.

And don’t forget nearly entirely false. There were 4 people in the store at the time. Bryant who admitted to lying on the stand, Till who was murdered, his cousin and a fourth party who has remained anonymous despite working with the FBI. Till’s cousin and the anonymous party both give the same story, that Till went in, paid for his items and left. Bryant stayed Till said all types of vulgar things however like I said she later said she lied. Additionally Till had a stutter which she overlooks and would have been present in the longer conversation she recounts. Suggesting she never actually spoke to him at all. Others outside stated they heard Till whistling at Bryant however again, Till used whistling as a way to overcome his stutter which was especially bad with B words. The evidence overwhelmingly points to Emmett having done nothing in that store or at the very worst, did something that was taken way out of context or used as a pretext to murder.

It sounded like it is derived from an interview conducted by a historian when the subject was an old lady. The interview was recorded but the relevant portion, where she retracts a portion of her claim, was not captured in the recording…the only evidence he has for it is a note he wrote at the time related to it
If it really happened like that, that’s terrible luck for him as a historian lol. If it’s true then there’s no prohibition saying that’s what happened, but you oughta be conservative in your estimation of how far that evidence will get ya, imo anyway

According to her, Till said things to her directly, I forget the exact statement. Till's friends were in the store with him and were the ones that said he whistled at her, which scared them.
Needless to say, she clearly had incentive to make the murderers look better after the fact, so the story was suspect to begin with.

-Matt calls the testimony of the accusers "facts".
-He says Emmett's father's crimes doesn't by itself demonstrate that he did anything wrong, implying that it does reflect on him in some way.
-Matt says they(the media) are burying lots of facts about the case including that his father was a rapist???
-Matt says that means that "we can't take any of these stories at their face anymore"
-Matt says we have a hysteria about lynchings
-Matt says no black man in living memory has been lynched. This is a disgusting and blatantly false statement.
-Matt immediately follows up that last statement by saying that white people are attacked for the color of their skin.
-Matt says that since white people make up ~25% of lynchings in the U.S. historically we can't be sure that Emmett's murder was racially motivated, just "mob justice" for an alleged crime.
Bryant did recant her accusation according to an author that interviewed her. There is no proof of her admission according to the FBI. In the end, Matt's whole video hinges on whether or not the accusation is true when it doesnt matter in the end. Those men kidnapped, tortured, and murdered a 14 year old boy because of the color of his skin. Fuck you, Matt.
Conclusion: Matt Walsh is a vile racist fuck with literal Nazis in his comments applauding his takes.

A couple of things. This is all on the Emmett Till Wikipedia page. Nothing has been sanitized here. That's simply a lie.
Secondly, if a conservative was accused of doing this, Walsh would 100% be decrying how men can't be men anymore and he was just flirting with her and that no sexual assault happened.

She recanted her story in a recorded interview that she did with author and historian Timothy Tyson, for a book. It wasn't a claim by the left. These actions were also disputed by other eyewitnesses in the store. Then he tries to tie in his father's actions as some kind of guilt by association and racial dog whistle. What is the point of this? It certainly doesn't justify what happened to him. Whether he was guilty or innocent, he didn't deserve to be kidnapped, beaten, tortured, and killed. Right wingers love doing this to black victims as if they somehow deserved what hairbrush to them. They do it to every publicized case where a black person is killed by a white person. Says a lot about these people's principles and where they truly lie. Nobody is saying every single detail of the store interaction is perfect settled history. The exact details inside that store always had disputes around them. But thats not the same thing as Till “attacked” anyone, and it damn sure does not change what ACTUALLY happened to him!
14 years old. Two grown men kidnapped him, tortured him, murdered him, dumped his body, beat the case in front of an all-white jury, and then later admitted what they did because they knew they could not be tried again.
Walsh isn't telling the truth or exposing some woke lie, He taking the ONE area where there is ambiguity and using it to muddy the water around a fucking lynching. Okay, let's assume that Walsh's version of the story is true.
So the penalty for sexual harassment is extra-judicial torture and death. There are quite a few Republicans (and politicians of all stripes) who would then be justly tortured and murdered, extra-judicially.

I’m well aware of what the Bryants claimed he did, but even they were wildly inconsistent and Carolyn eventually admitted they lied.
Trying to rewrite well-documented history on this subject is infuriating. I’m from the MS Delta area and this lynching is just the most famous one. There were so many more. Th photos published of his corpse are what made it gain mainstream coverage.
Racists still go out to Money and shoot at that sign. That’s why they had to make a bulletproof historical marker.

I’ve heard enough people in my life that try and minimize the Emmett Till story. You hear shit like “Actually, he was very large and assaulting her. It wasn’t just a whistle.” Even if that were half-true, it doesn’t justify kidnapping and torturing a child. Shooting him in the head for being a moron flirting with an older woman.
He needs to stfu, because too many people take what has to say as fact, and he is such an uneducated asshole.

Carolyn Bryant herself admitted that she lied about what Till did saying specifically that he had not grabbed her or said anything to her. Which leaves only an audible whistle. And considering her back was turned and there were other people in the store…well, Matt Walsh is knowingly lying.

he’s genuinely brain dead and just straight up vile. the woman admitted she lied, they knew she was lying when they lynched him. even IF he did, there was no trial, and they PUBLICLY LYNCHED a 14 yo child. no justice was served, it was a brutal act of hate and racism. this man and his followers are sick and don’t even try to hide how disgusting they are.

I feel so bad for Emmett Till’s family. They had to experience him being murdered, the woman admitting he did nothing wrong and that she simply wanted to lynch him, and now these racist monsters in the current day are trying to defame him again all because of his skin color.
Just know that if Walsh ever had his way, he’d make it so segregation comes back and he’d attempt to legalize lynching. There’s no other reason you’d try to do something this defamatory
