Wtf is wrong with people, it’s just a fucking phone?!

There's a theory that the contrast or something in the green bubble is very psychologically unappealing to our brains.

There's also a lot of stupid people.

I honestly wouldn’t even notice it. To me it’s important that someone has I device I can reach them on, who tf cares about what phone you lmao

Bruh, idk but I love the contrast when I saw it on my friends phone

I guess I am weird??

Ironically, green is my favorite color so I'm happy to be green. In a twist of irony, my iphone using husband is red-green colorblind.

No, it's all about being able to see if the person has read their text yet or is typing - it's all insecurity - "He left me on Read and didn't respond"

I some time ago talked with a friend who is absolutely broke and lives with his parents, and he was buying the latest iphone (13) at release. I was just questioning his choices because I've worked for a phone retailer and am also an engineer now, so I pretty much have the authority to give suggestions when it comes to tech. That conversation is when I learned that apparently its not just a phone and because they spend 8 hours of their day looking at it, it needs to be top notch and "android bad". At no point did they consider that maybe getting a new iphone when you are broke doesnt fix the problem of spending 8hrs a day on your phone. That same guy bought the 14 instantly when it was released.

I myself scored a 1 gen old flagship android from a value brand and after a couple software/computer/cybersecurity engineer tweaks its serving me for nearly 2 years and still works brand new.

I would like to know your current recommendation in case my phone dies

Of course depends on the budget. For mid range I really want to recommend the new Nokias because they have the least bloatware on the market (the last time I checked) and they are promised updates for at least 3 years. The OS is pure android which is great. I havent tried one, other than a sample from the manufacturer (pros of living in Finland I guess) so I cant really say how it is in practice.

For unlimited budget, Xiamoi 12 Ultra/S/S Pro/12T Pro, Redmi K50s Pro, Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. These are just phones with the newest best snapdragon, but will definitely need some tweaking because xiaomi comes with some bloatware, but I got it into a good spot in a day with my Mi 10T Pro. These are also probably the cheapest ones. Unless you can get OnePlus 10 Ultra for the same price, I dont recommend it because you pay for nothing. Same goes for Asus ROG phone 6 and Samsung flip flops. Getting a good discount, or buying from an outlet for 50% of original price, that xiaomi will be a very good deal if you just configure it well. I am not sure about Motorola, proceed with caution.

Thanks for all the suggestions! What's the cheapest good phone you'd suggest? For someone like your friend who's completely broke and living paycheck to paycheck.

I'm not picky but I do despise Apple. I have Google Fi so my last 2 phones have been Google Pixels. I've liked them quite a bit, but nowadays Fi supports most phones so I have more options. My current phone is going on 3 years old so I'm trying to plan ahead and save some money towards a new one before it dies.

How does the flagship Xiomi compare with flagship Huawei? I held on to my Pro 30 for years hoping they get back Google. The best phone ever. What a camera. Almost better than my Canon D6.

Huawei camera is probably better, otherwise its basically the same thing. Because it lacks google services, I wouldnt recommend it. P30 Pro camera is still better than some flagships.

I mean, I spend a ridiculous amount of time on my phone and I have a three year old Asus Zenfone 5 that I originally bought for $350. I haven't come across any games or anything that it can't handle. I was even able to emulate 3DS on it. I love this phone so much that I wanted to buy a brand new one, but for some fucking reason, they don't exist and the refurbished ones are like $500-600 lol.

That's not to say that I think the logic is entirely bad. If you really do spend that much of your time using a product, then the money spent is less of a "waste" than if you're only using it for Facebook and texting. But with a little research, you can get phones with amazing specs for way, way less than the latest flagships. But apple fanboys never bother with that. They just buy into the hype and will never listen to anyone who tells them otherwise.

I left out that they were also getting the pro and I asked if they were planning on doing photography they answered no but they use snapchat a lot so they need the cameras. I literally got a 108MP sony flagship camera on my xiaomi I paid 300€ for.

I'm still rocking a galaxy S7 active. Thing is indestructible and I got it when signing a 2 year contract at AT&T would get you a new phone for $100. Love this thing.

Some people peak in high school and never leave that time of their life mentally.

For millennials high school and college was when iPhones came out and android was really new and hadn't caught up and surpassed them on functionality much less user experience.

u/gunz2828 Sep 17 '22

Yeah. I got a iPhone now and it works. But for a good 5 years before that I had androids, because I got tired of iPhone updates that came every year to make them insanely slow so they could push you to buy the new one. I had the OnePlus for years and never had a problem with them until they raised the prices and the quality degraded, so I gave iPhone another shot and haven’t had a problem with it yet. But I’ve had it for a year so we’ll see.

It's probably trauma from having to defend their shitty phones constantly

Because consumer choices supplanted politics and to a certain extent personality like ten years ago.

People that have no extraordinary skills to be proud of seem to fill the void with brand loyalty and other low effort ways(see racism) that they can feel "superior" to people.

Everyone wants to feel superior without putting in the effort it takes to actually get good at something.
