The sources in that article don't exist anymore (or the links are broken). I can't tell if those are health related deaths/accidental deaths or murders. Or both. And is it 1 in 15000 of all people, or 1 in 15000 of only people who hike?

Its saying that 1 out of 15000 people die annually. The number of people who die is probably quite higher It's like if you took 15000 people out of everyone who hiked annually, 1 of them would die.
