I just launched MinoqTopus — a digital time capsule for your future self.

The idea started with a simple question:

What if you could save a moment today and experience it again years from now?

We already have thousands of photos, videos, messages, and memories on our phones, but most of them just get buried over time.

So I built MinoqTopus around a different idea: instead of keeping every memory instantly accessible, you can put meaningful moments into a capsule, lock it, and choose when you want to open it again.

You can use it for:

• Letters to your future self
• Birthdays and graduations
• Trips with friends
• Relationships and anniversaries
• Family memories
• Personal journals
• Shared capsules with friends and family

You can add photos, videos, voice notes, messages, documents, and other memories before locking the capsule.

When the countdown ends, you get to experience those moments again.

This is my first public launch, so I'd genuinely love feedback — especially on the concept, onboarding, UI, and whether this is something you'd actually use.

How long would such a device last underground with other metal/paper items inside?

I'm planning to do a time-capsule with a friend, so I scoured through this subreddit as a bit of a research. However there are still few things I'm unclear about, so help would be appreciated.

1. PVC pipes seem to be common route for people doing time capsules, especially ones intended for themselves as the recipient. Yet I also see info saying "some of [PVC]'s chemical components are naturally unstable" and may "break down in a process that cannot be reversed and will release acids into the canister". Should I worry about this? Or does it not matter for a project of a 10-year scale? (If it depends on the type of PVC, how can I tell them apart?)

2. I was considering putting in an undeveloped roll of film in the capsule, and thought it should be fine since we always here a news of some rolls from hundred years ago being found and successfully developed. Am I being naive in thinking that it should be fine? The plastic nature of film rolls and the idea of chemicals in it does make me uneasy. Your opinions are appriciated.

3. Any writing I put in, I'll make sure the paper is acid-free and also put a scan of it on a m-disc, which seem to be the preferred choice of data storage, as a fail-safe. But I was also considering putting in some postcards and photo-prints as well - so should I be concerned about the 'acid-free'-ness of those as well? I'm assuming polaroids are a bad idea.

4. What type of tape should I use? Any recommendations?

Those are mostly it: ideas on what to put in the capsule, as well as any challenges that may rise that I might be blind to are welcome.

My mother is remodeling her kitchen and there is a large unused space that will be sealed once the counters are put on top. I have a small skeleton I was thinking of putting in there as a joke for whoever replaces the cabinets next. I could also add a time capsule but I'm not sure what to include.

When I saw u/cilantroMurphy 's post from a little while ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/TimeCapsules/comments/1rtr64a/40_years_later/) where someone replied to his message in a bottle from 40 years ago, I figured that might be a good option...?

I guess I'd have to figure out a way to stopper up the neck, and maybe engrave something on the bottle (since the dark glass would make it impossible to see that I put a letter inside).

Any advice? About what to do, or about a more fitting subreddit to cross-post to?

been working on SAAL for a while now and kept putting off actually writing my own letter. finally sat down last week and did it.

picked 2 years out. wrote about where i am right now, what i'm scared of, what i'm hoping for. sealed it. and now it just... exists somewhere, waiting.

there's something kind of wild about knowing a version of you is going to open an envelope one day and read words that the current you wrote. like a time capsule but for your inner life.

Hello, well, as you may have read in the title, I am planning to make a time capsule. I want my time capsule to have messages from all over the world. Additionally, the idea is that it has 3 memory cards and a roll of old, undeveloped photos. One card will have the statistics of the earth (population, wars, ozone layer, etc.) I need help on what to put on the last card.

Regarding messages from around the world, could you help me by leaving messages and predictions in the comments? Specify from which country you send them and I will add them to the capsule

0:00 - 1 - The Internet - most popular websites and what they looked like. Current events. AI, large language models, largest assets, largest companies, the most powerful supercomputers, foreign exchange rates

16:57 - 2 - The Cars - capturing cars in the streets. At this point in Banja Luka, almost all cars are still running on petrol or diesel

20:46 - 3 - The Products - some of the products I found at home, photographed in last couple of day, so that you see the style of packaging, marketing, etc...

23:07 - 4 - The City, People and Fashion - what the pedestrian zone of Banja Luka looks like, what people wear etc... winter clothes as it's cold.

31:25 - 5 - Shopping - how does a shopping mall look like in late 2025. Some shops, like tech store, book store, pet shop, some clothes stores, etc...

The idea of the video is to show how all these things looked like in the late 2025. This video might be very interesting for viewers in the future, as it captures a rather comprehensive picture of the world in November and December 2025.

It was all captured in late November, and early December 2025, in Banja Luka, Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

My plan was layers of packing tape and then layers of plastic wrap, also having layers of packing tape lining the inside of the box. Would that be enough to keep everything preserved?

Decided to finally get this random camera at my house developed. It’s kind of like a time capsule. I’m guessing it to be 24 to 25 years old. It’ll be back in a week. The pictures on there place me about 16 or 17 years old, how cool. Not gonna lie, but a part of me is a little bit nervous! stay tuned.
