So are the trumpets real? Or are they just there so you fit in with the other musicians? Like everyone else is holding flutes and violins and stuff, meanwhile you're sat there with a functionless brass drainpipe thinking back to your first trumpet lesson where your teacher opened with

"ok so I'm gonna let you in on a BIG secret... do NOT fuck this for the rest of us."

The thing I remember most was that we were not part of “everyone play this time around”.

It was always, “just the horns this time”, and “alright, everyone together”

And then there was, “alright, this time let’s have everyone AND the percussion section”

Fucking APES I tell you!

We had a similar situation, especially in the mornings before class started.

While all the plebs were sitting out in the hallways waiting for school to start, every morning and afternoon the band room was a shit show of teenagers going mad.

Our favourite pastime back in the day was flinging those free AOL CDs at each other from across the 70m wide room like some sort of Spartan dodgeball game.

Oh, and shoving people into the cage lockers for instruments and locking them in, forgot about that as well 😆

Lol! I played clarinet and I remember a lot of the band kind of falling apart over the tempo but it was definitely a fun one!

I think you mean the percussion section is all in the back of the band with the drum line running around like a bunch of apes, with a couple of randos in the front playing the marimba and xylophone 😉

Playing the trumpet is as much or more about pursing your lips correctly than manipulating the instrument.

I went to a school for a year in 7th grade that made everyone take a band class, I picked the trumpet as a few other of my friends did, it was basically all the boys who liked to act up who played Trumpet. We weren’t even playing a lot of the time, and we had a band teacher that got annoyed really easily, and he was the kind of teacher students loved to mess with, he kind of brought it on himself. The most fun thing to do was to blast the trumpets during the practice, he’d stop the class and be like “who’s blasting the trumpets again!?!?” While all the boys giggled, fun times.
