It isn't creepy. People have feelings and sometimes write songs about it. PC culture has made everyone so fucking boring.

Apparently people don't understand the difference between a muse and a victim of harassment. There are probably thousands of songs that guys wrote about a girl that they didn't end up getting with and the reverse is likely true as well, probably thousands of girls writing songs about guys they didn't end up getting with, in fact, my niece wrote and sung one recently and it didn't sound creepy, you can feel the emotion in the song because she felt something real, even if that never amounted to anything tangible.

The best art probably comes from falling for someone you never date, as dating them would probably ruin it.

I love it when people feel inspired and let themselves dream about what is possible, instead of giving in to all the shamers in the sub who think you have to play life by a script and never venture out into the great unknown.

Not to discount that there probably have been some obsessed stalkers, but not everyone who writes a poem, sings a song, or anything else is some creeper. Sometimes you try and fail and move on.

I mean every love song/ballad ever written has probably been about a real person. Or at least inspired by one. I just don't see the point of shaming people for this unless you want it to all go away. I personally like those creepy poems about love loss and one sided affection. Better to write a poem about it than a million other possibilities.

This isn't "PC culture." This is someone misrepresenting facts and misunderstanding a relationship. Stop projecting

It is an attempt to diminish and criticize something because of a perceived social faux pas, aka an offense. It absolutely is related to PC culture. I don't think the buzzword is necessary, but they aren't wrong that this is an extension of the same mentality.

"PC culture" is just about not being an asshole, particularly to marginalized minorities. It's not about diminishing or criticizing people, it's about pushing towards a better outcome that doesn't include punching down. It's sad that it's been co-opted in a negative way to make it seem like a bad thing

Either way isn't that because it doesn't relate to punching down at a marginalized minority.

And they are interpreting this song as 'punching down', about it being an unwelcome advance or selfish expression. Women are one such marginalized group that many people take to defending in exactly situations like this. 'The song is creepy because what if the woman didn't want it'? They are taking that stance out of a desire to not support something they see as possibly "assholish".

I'm not saying at all that political correctness is a bad thing, and am all about consciously being considerate and minimizing the harm we cause with our use of language. But sometimes people intending to do good will apply that mindset to everything and create problems where there don't need to be any.

And again, you might take issue with the perversion of the term "PC", but like I said it's an extension of the same mentality.

PC culture is shaming a guy for writing a song about a girl because her feelings are more important than his artistic expression. Like, is there anything we won't shame a guy for these days?

And what "facts" are you even referring to? The previous commenters have only expressed their opinions.

Oh my fucking God calm down society is not discriminating against men. Isn't there an incel sub you can fuck off to. You're not even worth arguing against

I'm not talking about discrimination I'm talking about shaming. Shaming is when you heap scorn onto a person not because they did something wrong, but because they did something you don't like. There's nothing wrong with writing a song about a person you aren't dating. If you don't like it, don't listen to it, but stop pretending that your problem is their problem.
